New News About Next Season?

I figured that they would paint Iron Dragon this year, with the new theater last year and the new color scheme for Wildcat this year. It seems as if the park is adding bright colors to that area that really contrast what they used to look like. Perhaps to cater to the younger coaster riders who aren't tall enough for the larger rides yet?

I'm glad that Corkscrew has been given a fresh coat of paint. This should disspell rumors of it being removed for a new looper.

After this year, the only coaster in need of a new paintjob will be MF, is it not?

Blue Streak.....can't remember really but i thought that it needed one in at least the next couple of years.

I thought it was also, but maybe that article in the Sandusky Register about it was just a fake...;)

Hopefully if they do repaint Blue Streak it won't be some insanely bright neon blue... unfortunately that appears to be the trend...

Blue Streak was only partially repainted last time they worked on it. This year you could really see that there were parts of the ride (the most visible parts, actually...) that looked great, while some other parts of it...uh...didn't. Perhaps they're now going to finish the job...

I have to agree with Jeff, I cannot see a Bubba Gump Shrimp Shack at CP. PKI just put one in this year where the German Beer Garden is, and there is also one at PKD. Perhaps it will have shrimp, and Lake Erie perch like many have asked for, but it will not have Bubba Gump's name on it.

Think of it this way- it would be like the Peanuts characters being at PKI. It just does not fit.

The Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. isn't something limited to PKI or PKD. That is, if the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. restaurants and the Bubba Gump Shrimp Shack at PKI are the same thing. The Shrimp Shack at PKI does have a limited menu compared to the restaurants. The Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. is a themed restaurant found in various cities around the country. It's a project of Viacom Consumer Products, and they plan to open 23 restaurants. If they franchise, there is no reason CP can't buy a franchise just like they did with TGIFriday's, Johnny Rockets and Hardees.

I can definitely see the Boathouse turning into a full blown Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, not just a shack like at PKI. The restaurants have a full menu including things like pasta, rib eye steak, burgers, chicken, salmon, etc., and the food is very good.

As far as Montgomery Inn Ribs, ribs are on the menu and the Shrimp Shack at PKI features the same Montgomery Inn Ribs served at the Boathouse.

One last item, there is a Bubba Gump Shrimp Company next to another park Cedar Fair manages. That would be Camp Snoopy at the Mall of America. Don't forget that the Boathouse isn't in Cedar Point, it's in the marina outside the park. So if there is some exclusive amusement park deal with PKI and PKD, turning CP's Boathouse into a Shrimp Co., wouldn't violate that agreement, since the building is not in the park. CP would most likely market the restaurant to non-park guests also, just like they do with Bay Harbor and TGIFriday's.

Viacom owns Paramount... I don't understand why you guys find this so hard to get. I mean, would Disney franchise one of their brands, say Micky Mouse, to a competitor? Friday's isn't owned by a competitor, and it's not connected with any other brand.

True, but Viacom/Paramount does not own Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. International. It's strictly a licensing deal that the CEO of the restaurant company struck with Paramount Pictures in 1996, to convert the Rusty Pelican restaurant chain to Bubba Gump. I believe the PKI and PKD locations are a Viacom project, but the outside restaurants are not a part of Viacom.

There may of course be some restrictions in how the licensing is used. If Cedar Fair was a movie studio, than I can see the problem. I'm not so sure that resort locations and resort companies would fall under the same restriction. I bet the location would simply be "Sandusky". Since the building is out of the park, it would not be the same as opening a limited menu shack inside the amusement park.

Micky Mouse and Disney amusement parks are totally tied together. When someone thinks of Bubba Gump Shrimp, not too many people would think of an amusement park, or make that kind of connection. Bubba Gump Shrimp could easily fall under the same type of marketing arrangement that allows Sponge Bob characters (Viacom also) to be used in the park for prizes, as someone mentioned earlier.

After saying all that, watch me be wrong, and the Boathouse will probably turn into a Joe's Crab Shack next spring!

Whatever it turns into (if anything at all), wouldn't the roof of the Boathouse be great if it was converted into an outdoor, themed waterfront bar?

Pete... that's what I'm getting at. You don't license your stuff to someone who is going to franchise that to a competitor. It's just absurd. And like I said, if PKI is going to sell the fact they have such a restaurant, you can bet that right up the chain they're not going to allow someone else to have it. Paramount still ultimately owns the brand. You won't see any Star Trek or Top Gun rides at Cedar Point either.

Heck, you might even go as far as to say that Cedar Fair wouldn't want to license the brand of a competitor!

Now a Joe's Crab Shack... that would make sense.

By early 2005, it looks like there might be four indoor water parks in Sandusky: Great Bear Lodge, Cedar Point, Kalahari (billed as the world's largest), and what looks like another resort on Rt. 250 near Kalahari. Kalahari alone is projecting 1,000,000 visitors its first year.

With all that "off-season" tourism, maybe an additional year-round restaurant makes sense.

The Boathouse is not broken. Please do not fix it. Especially do not fix it by turning it in to a Joe's; the one in Ann Arbor is almost always too loud to have a conversation.

I like Joe's, but the first time I went into one, I thought, "wow, it looks like TGI Friday's exploded."

I agree, though. The Boathouse is fine as is.

Sandusky has hills, but they're lousy for skiing.

Great for summertime gravity-based pursuits, though. The tallest one is over 400'! :)

that's why i make the small journey to CP more than 3 times a year (on avgerage)! ..however, living here in the north, i don't think i'd make it thru a winter without SevenSprings (about 30 minutes away) my gravit-based pursuits last all year long ;)

Gravity based pursuits in the winter also. Holiday Valley Ski Resort in Ellicottville, NY. Ellicottville is like a winter Put-In-Bay. I guess some things don't change, just the water freezes. :)
