Fairly good evidence. Rob Decker says IAAPA 2011. That's less than a year before destruction of major rides and construction began. Year and a half until opening. Fairly well out of the "five year plan". Very good documentary loaded with tons of info.
A year and a half is hardly "last minute". Having a five year plan doesn't mean the details for 5 years from now are known specifically, but the park likely has an idea of what types of attractions they will be adding and where they might go. In 2008, B&M had likely not even shared details that they were working on a Wing Coaster design.

I was inquiring more about the origin of the saying "high noon" online. Aside from a classic western movie, and plenty of "show down" references, one source stated the origin of
"High noon" refers to the Sun being at its highest point in the sky. Please...someone... stop me from reading into the "highest point" as "highest point of CP's skyline" , because honestly that is what I want. There I've said it. I want Cedar Point to top 500 feet in the same way they have topped most of the other height pinnacles through the years. I hear the words "big news" and there goes my mind once more, wandering right back to that monstrous CENTAURIAN coaster, or GARGANTUAN as the tallest in the world. Cedar point did this to me I swear. My expectations and fantasies are based on their past realities.
What better way to sell out the soon to be refurbished Hotel Breakers and all of the other properties? Rhetorical question: is it really so hard to imagine in this or any year that Cedar Point is set to shock the industry once more? I'm ready.
^^I'll agree to disagree. In the grand scheme of things, 8 months before the destruction of two major rides seems rather last minute, just like Wicked Twister (which was rumored to not be a part of the sacred 5 year plan (which we all know can be deviated from anyway. StR was delayed a year for example)). My best comparison is White Water Landing. Removal announced and was removed in 2005 for Maverick, which was already planned on when destruction began. GateKeeper, destruction began 10 months before opening and only 8 months before that was the project conceived. That does appear to be a fairly short time frame of "getting the gears going". Especially for a $30 million project of this stature. I guess it's all in the perception of "last minute"
As for this year, completely stumped on what it could be. At this point, it doesn't matter, I'll give it a shot next year no matter what. If its not a dark ride, I do hope one of those are in store here soon!
Some of the reasons I daydream about 500 feet and believe it's possible.
1989 Magnum XL 200. Tallest / fastest
1991 Mean Street. Tallest / longest drop
1993 Snake River Falls. Tallest / steepest
1994 Raptor. Tallest / fastest / longest
1996 Mantis. Tallest / fastest / steepest
1998 Power Tower. Tallest
2000. Millennium Force. Tallest / fastest
2002. Wicked Twister. Tallest / fastest
2004 Top Thrill Dragster. Tallest / Fastest
2005. Max Air. Tallest
2006 Sky Hawk. Tallest
2007. Maverick. Not certain of the records..
2012 Gatekeeper. Tallest / fastest/ longest / highest inversion
20__?
The grapevine will tell you that Gatekeeper was never intended for Cedar Point at all, but rather a different Cedar Fair park.
Silly grapes.
Is it Tuesday yet?

Well this appears to be what ones definition of last minute is as I stated above. As far as the five year plan, did the park know they wanted to build a new coaster - yes. Did they know what type of coaster, or when and where it would be built - no, not until after the Nov. 2011 trade show when Rob Decker had a conversation with Walter Bollinger about a new ride type he was working on.
Gatekeeper was engineered, designed, approved for construction in less than 8 months. Construction and demolition began within 9 months, Gatekeeper gave its first rides less than 14 months later and opened to the general public less than 18 months later.
Also it was stated that choosing GK allowed them to kill 2 birds with one stone as Matt Oiumet wanted the beach opened up at the front of the park, as well as a new entrance for the park. Having things move that quickly is relatively last minute to me as I know many parks plan new rides and attractions many years in advance.
All of these large rides cost money. If it wasn't originally part of the 5 year plan that doesn't mean it was a bonus addition for the public. It's possible that whatever large expenditure they had planned has been pushed back as a result of Gatekeeper.
"Hmm, a hint? After tomorrow, our guests wont be in the dark about what we're doing. Hope that helps!" - Brian Edwards....... Could this possibly mean a dark ride? Because earlier in the season tony tweeted "afraid of the dark" hmmm
That's it! CP is going to start handing out opaque riding goggles. It'll bring a whole new level of thrill to each ride.
That would mean... A WMG clone, for me that definitely not up to Cedar Point standards. Yes, I have gone to CW to check it out. Nothing special, Lets just hope they get a dark ride like the one at Knott's!
That B&M track that is unaccounted for, the color scheme kind of looks like that test paint done on Mantis?? Or am I just colorblind..

Which one are you talking about, The red one or the Teal one? That red track could be headed to CP...

Master troll, lol.
The only reddish colored track at the B&M plant was Thunderbirds unless something new just popped up in the past week of 2.. Unfortunately I didn't see any track pictures in the link provided above.
Thats probably the best tweet ever.
What if that is really what they are doing.. and he is just tweeting it because no one will believe it
