I think we can all agree that CP has plenty of coasters, plenty of kids rides and a decent number of flat rides. There is still a train ride, boat ride, 2 car rides, sky ride, Giant Wheel, Dodgems and 3 carrousels.

What is notable are the number of family attractions lost that were not replaced. At one point the park had 2 flume rides, 2 dark rides, an additional Dodgem, a walk through zoo, an outdoor amphitheater for country music shows, two roving bands (Hobo Band and Beach Band), a stage coach ride, a mono rail, an additional sky ride (Frontier Lift) and a fun house. Plus Western Cruise was a much more extensive ride than Paddlewheel Excursions.

These were all rides and attractions the entire famly could enjoy, and as a kid during that era, it was cool going on the "big rides". The kiddie rides were fun, but I had the "big rides" to look forward to also, which were a lot of fun riding with my family and much more memorable than the kiddie rides.

The park did feel somewhat Disney like back then, because it was heavy on big family attractions. It would be very good to get some of that atmosphere back.

I think Cedar Point should charge 75 dollars for a ticket. Then it'll feel more like Disney.

Yeah, but without 4 parks, 2 water parks and a shopping/bar area. Suddenly, 75 bucks doesn't sound so expensive(not to mention you're an idiot if you actually pay 75).

75 gets you into 1 park, 1 day.

why do we insist on comparing CP to Disney. its not Disney, and it isn't suppose to be. amusement park, theme park. not the same thing. if i want "rides" named after characters and movies and mickey mouse in my face while i eat breakfast ill go to Disney. when i want to go on a roller coaster that makes me urinate in my pants, ill go to CP.

Because Disney is the best at running a park. And if we aren't striving to be the best, we are wasting our time.

If Cedar Point did have that 5 coasters in 10 years contract with Intamin, maybe a possible coaster would be the ZacSpin Coaster.

But then again, the capacity would probably be pretty bad but they could also go with the Intamin pre fabricated woody.

Maybe something like El Toro at Great Adventure but more of a twister than an out and back.

Oh come on, now people are making up contracts with Intamin? Doesn't exist.

Do they speak English in what?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again; as long as Monty Jasper is around, there won't be an Intamin prefab at Cedar Point, or any CF park for that matter. He doesn't like them, at all. I've sat right next to him and listened to him gripe about El Toro. There won't be an Intamin prefab at the Point anytime in the near future, so you may as well go ahead and get that off of your wish list.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

I wasn't confirming that they had that contract I was just saying that it was something that I had heard and I just said those two coasters because they were two types of intamins that Cedar Point doesn't have, so it just meant if the contract did exist those would be two posibiltities.

If you've been to Orlando......

You know CP has most of their investment on big kid rids. Or the adult who just won't grow up.

Their selection and investment in to children or rides for people of all ages is weak. If you ask me its a bunch of fillers.

Yuo got the big rides and you need some carnival rides to fill in between everything.

Orlando parks spend a nice chunk of change on their rides. Kids, adults, whatever.

Biggest difference, Orlando parks spend lots of money on all their attractions. CP will try and save a few dollars and do a Planet Snoopy kind of renovation with nothing that really makes you go "now that is cool".

IMO, (I'll get ripped for this, I'm sure) Disney isn't all that great. Yes theming is great, the rides are interactive, and all that crap, but there is nothing that really stands out to me. There is nothing down there in the old people state that makes me go "Wow, thats something I have to go on." Thats why I haven't been down to Florida in a few years. All Disney is to me are "Ok" rides in "super great" theming.

Cedar Point on the other hand has rides that make me think "Wow I gotta ride that." And not just one or two either more like 4 or 5. All the family talk are just opinions too because some rides that aren't for some families are family rides to others. My sister was 8 when she rode everything at the point. My grandma is 60 and she still rides everything. It depends on how tough your family is.

Bring on the Disney lovers! :)

Let's Get Weird.

TTD, I have to disagree, and Ill bring up my favorite non-coaster ride anywhere here: Tower of Terror. Strip out all its themeing, and lets just talk about that drop sequence, no other drop ride, anywhere else bounces you as forcefully up and down and for as long as Tower of Terror, and oh yeah it does it in the dark. Seriously love that ride, even without all the Twlight Zone themeing, it is by far the best drop ride anywhere, it has the longest drop sequence and the most change in g-forces (not to mention it now randomly does stuff so you never know when you are going to change direction.) I just dont know how you can say that about Disney, at least when it comes to that ride.

Also, you said all of Florida, that means Universal and Busch Gardens Tampa too. My family is litterally all card carrying coaster entusiasts, and I assure you that if we took a vote about where, money being no object, we would want to ride; we are going to pick Florida, with 5 days at Busch, Sea World and Universal and then 9 days at Disney.

I'll bite. I'm a noob so do you mind explaining? El Toro and Kingda Ka literally sit right next to each other, and if you told me to chose one to ride, I'll pick El Toro everytime. The coaster is ridiculous. Sounds like we need to stick Monty in the back seat of El Toro and knock some sense into him.

TTD 120mph's avatar

^I too have heard Monty talk about the prefabs with dislike. Not sure he'd change his mind just by riding it. He obviously looked at it thru a "worthwhile" point of view as well as a maintenance point of view. He probably thought that putting one in the park would be a bad idea. I heard that a TON of wood had to be replaced on El Toro after it's first year. That doesn't mean that if one were to be built at CP the same problems would occur....but you never know.
^^So Tower of Terror automatically makes it worth the trip? ;) I hear about it EVERY time about how great it is (which I'm sure it is) but for me, I wouldn't care to go to DL because I'm a thrill junkie. Disney is heavy on the theme and family atmosphere and not so heavy on the extreme coaster thrill that I love. And while they have Mission Space, Tower of Terror, Expedition Everest, and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, that's just not enough incentive for me to spend a LOAD of money to go down there. I might be horrible for being that way but that's just how it is. I enjoy a park with thrilling coasters as well as thrilling rides with little care on if it is or isn't themed. But who knows, maybe it'll all change when I have a family (though with my luck that will never happen;))

Woah, there youve never been TTD? How can you knock a place you have never even been?

TTD 120mph's avatar

Hmm....I'm pretty sure I wasn't knocking Disney. Disney does a wonderful job with their parks, that's for sure. I wouldn't enjoy it because it's just not my gig.:)

I've never been to Disney, but I feel the same way. I'm all about thrills and while theming is nice, its not my cup of tea. Disney just doesn't seem like it would offer thrills especially when my family decided not to go last year because my parents thought my sisters and I were too old. Im 17 and my youngest sister is 12, I think that me and many other people who have never been to Disney see it as a "kiddie" park.
