In my opinion... it will not be a coaster.
As well all the hints along with stuff from Tony and OnPoint help that theory I believe.
I for one welcome the change and hope the new attraction will be amazing. It is not all about coasters. CP does not HAVE to put anything in, let alone a coaster.

I totally agree with you. A flume????? I feel as though there wouldn't be so much effort. There is to much teasing going on for flume. Cedar Point would lose fans if they teased everyone so much to put in a flume.
Wow. That doesn't even make sense, man.
First of all WHY WOULD THEY EVER tear down a great flume ride to build another two years later?? It just doesn't make any sense.
You're right, because they didn't build one two years ago. WWL was closed in the Fall of '05.
Jeff said think about the gap between rides, and im thinking about it.
...if you want to hear what I think the gap is between rides...its a woodie.
The last time I was there, Cedar Point had two woodies that were, as best I could tell, still operating. Of course, I was there last week, so a lot may have changed since...
We all know CP needs a better woodie to bolster its reputation.
Its reputation? What is this, high school? CP does not bend their cap ex to the whims of fanboys who don't even know what coasters the park already has.
I'm probably wrong...
Well, at least you got something right. ;)

White Water Landing wasnt a great flume in my opinion. I rode it and thought it was mediocre at best and dreaded the times when my family would drag me on to it. This WILL be a flume, i'm pretty much positive about it and nothing outside of an announcement saying it is not a flume will change my opinion.
I would love a flume. I loved WWL though. It was actually one of my favorite rides at CP. It was a great rie to get refreshed on without getting drenched. I miss it, but I do prefer Maverick.
Hopefully this new flume (if we get one), will be just as good as WWL, if not better.

Good riddance

Well, if the one being ripped out was a nearly 25 year old maintenance nightmare, yeah, I can see why they would tear it down. They'd build a new one a few years later because A) its NEW, B) NOT A MAINTENANCE NIGHTMARE.
Second of all, if you want to hear what I think the gap is between rides...its a woodie. We all know CP needs a better woodie to bolster its reputation.
While new wood would be nice, they are really lacking in the dark-ride full family attraction department.
Not all people are fans of smooth steal rides
And yet people still line up for Johnny Rockets, Subway and Midway Market. Maybe people are fans of steal rides.
Thats just how I feel. I'm probably wrong but we shall see.
The only thing you got wrong was "probably".

I'm just hoping that it isn't a flat ride, less because of the ride type, and more about the location. That location, when you include the boneyard area across the lagoon, is one of the biggest pieces of open land currently in the park, at least without some major reshuffling of rides and infrastructure. I can live without a coaster, but I think that area is really ideal for a ride with some kind of track layout that maximizes the space. A flat ride wouldn't maximize the space, but it would be cumbersome enough to make further development in the area, like say, a coaster, more difficult.
I'm sure that this has been taken into consideration by the powers that be.
I think your last comment was accurate, Trims, given how they shoehorned Skyhawk in its location.

I just can't see Cedar Point promoting a log flume next year...this is baffling me. "Check out our new ride for 2010, similar to the ride we ripped out 3 years ago."
As opposed to "Check out our new coaster, it's similar to the other 17 we already have". That is not any dumber than your statement. I think the new ride will be some type of flume/water ride and is exactly what Cedar Point needs. Removing White Water Landing left a gap in the park's lineup of rides, especially family friendly rides, that will most likely be filled next year. I expect this ride to be fun, not something terrifying, with a unique twist on a water ride that will make it new and fresh.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

It won't use water direct from Lake Erie?

Lake Erie is freshwater, last I checked.
It may be freshwater, but it's not fresh water.

A flume would be a nice addition since the only two water rides they do have you get soaked on. The problem with WWL was every time I went on it, I had the sensation of the "log" flipping backwards during the splash down. WWL was sort of old and had an issue where two boats got stuck and then hit by another coming down the hill.
I also think a woodie would be a nice addition. Mean Streak is ok and Blue Streak is old and the lap bars don't seem to lock at the right intervals so on the hills I am always hollding on for my life. A nice smooth woodie with the soft seats that are on the Millenium Flier trains of GCI. I think screamscapes idea would work great!

Am I the only one who thought based on the pics I saw from TPR, the real Auquatrax looked kind of boring and very "meh" (as Jeff would say) as well...

Doesn't this happen at amusement parks all the time? How often have we seen a ride go away to replaced with something similar?

It's almost as if they are admitting they made a mistake.
Or, perhaps, there was a master plan the entire time.
Whoa whoa whoa...
Walt, are you suggesting the park may actually plan things beyond the next 10 minutes? I refuse to accept such an absurd suggestion.
Brandon
Walt! you mean they actually plan this stuff out? I thought it went something like this:
Next : coin flip at Planning and Design Buidling to decide on what to do about 2010.
Hopfully that is enough time to create all the measuring and elevations we need to put something in for next year.
