More Downtime

bholcomb's avatar

So I'm surprised nobody mentioned this yet. Dragster is down, yet again. Word is it'll be a couple days, but you never know.

Guess they're doing some welding of the drum and some other assorted engine room work.

Dragster Status Page

Hopefully it's up and running by the weekend.

Does anyone have any information on how serious this breakdown is?

I heard through the LCN that this breakdown is actually causing them to contemplate removal.

Serious enough to cause a couple more days of downtime.

The CP status page still says it's down, but the web cam shows the queue filled. It's the correct date and time too...

This was taken at 10:12. Seems odd. But, TTD is filled with people, and it appears to be running.

Where do you get your information, bholcomb?

bholcomb's avatar

Yeah, it does appear to be running. So, I don't know.

I got my information from a reliable source. They said they expected a couple days of downtime, and apparently so did CP according to their site.

Top Thrill Dragster isn't down.

When you look at the webcam look at the date on it. Some time's it doesn't update.

Quote from a Corkscrew ride op, "And Dragster is down again"

Hmmm as we are finding out the maintenance staff is on top of their game when it comes to downtime for Dragster. We have seen in the past they think it will be down for a few days and sure enough is running much sooner then expected.Kudos to the maintenance crews
for such a great job they do to keep the rides safe and running as much as possible.

Last week I picked up a Sandusky Register right before I left to go home last Friday. The FunCoast section had a very good article about TTD's downtime this year. I was waiting for Walt to post it, but I guess he never saw it.

Sorry Jeff, didn't know that.

Since I can't post the article then I'll summerize it. A lot of the article is already known, but also tells quite a few new things. First off, the ride's downtime this year is because of radiator problems. Its cables are produced by a new company. It has better hydraulic oil to keep the system reliable. And the ride has given 100,000+ of rides this year.

It's good to hear just how good Cedar Point keeps up on Dragster. The fact that they have a new cable manufacturer and that they're using a different type of oil just shows the extra steps they have taken to get Dragster running as efficiently as it has so far.
This is turning out to be a good year for Dragster (so far). And hopefully it'll get even better next season.

Sure its not 10,000 launches this year, 1200 on coastermania day? 12,000 would mean 857 an hour or 14 a minute :)

Well on the dragster status page I see, it says that TTD is running today. So maybe someone just got around to updating....

I was at the Point on the 26th and 27th and it was definitely was down on June 27th, and the arc welder was humming away as we walked by at about 3pm or so. Welding truck was parked outside "engine Room" with the overhead door CLOSED.

Note happy campers as we waited till Monday to attempt a ride, only to find it down at 10 am. Nothing like pissing away several hundred dollars to ride a bunch of old coasters.

I sure hope you still had fun on those 'old coasters'. Considering one of them is the #1 rated steel in the world, one is the #3(or 4?) rated steel in the world, and one of them is the #10 rated steel in the world.

I think it went #1+Best Steel Roller Coaster in the World- Millennium Force, #3-Magnum, Top Thrill Dragster at #7 and Raptor at #10.

I still say Dragster is overrated. I'd rather ride Xcelerator any day.

Rating coasters is hard to do since everyone has a different idea of what makes a good ride. I ride rides to get a rush (example: TTD). Others like to have a lot of airtime, etc.

Exactly, everybody has a different idea of what makes a good coaster. Not everybody agrees on which one is best, and that's fine.
Personally, I love the sheer rush and height that Dragster provides but I also love the airtime and overall ride that Millennium provides.

I just happen to love Dragster more.:) *** Edited 6/28/2005 10:51:28 PM UTC by TTD 120mph***
