Mean Streak?

Someone show me real wood track like the Beast, Blue Streak, Mean Streak etc... That can withstand being used in an inversion.

Hades 360 at Wisconsin Dells I believe uses normal wooden track for it's inversion as the ride was done by Gravity Group not RMC. I do not believe they use topper track or something similar. Maybe thicker then normal steel?

I probably would, too. The Beast is the primary reason I drive 4hrs to KI.

Lemme guess, you live in Toledo?

Mentor.

I really hope they don't add inversions.

(And Hades 360 is a steel support structure, so that helps prevent the track from flexing too much. It still needs a lot of work to maintain, though.)

Count me in for the hope that instead of the I-Box, RMC Streak is made with the "wooden" topper track, like Outlaw Run, Lightning Rod, or Wildfire. It hasn't been done on a refurb yet, but I am not aware of any reason it couldn't be done... I too think maintaining as many wooden coasters in the park as possible would be great!

Based upon those pictures it certainly appears that track is what I was referring to as "real wood" track. The metal rails do look like a much heavier thickness than normal but nonetheless, that's impressive.

Sorry...but...it's one of those days, I had a small chuckle.

It drives me insane that Kings Island has been dishing out hints even after the plans were exposed, while Cedar Point hasn't even handed out a single tease for 2017. Heck, we don't even know which location were suppose to be looking at. MS? STR? Or Challenge Park?

Totally agree but I think CPs lack of a legit tease is because of Valravn. If you noticed most of the Cedar Fair parks that have teases up for 2017 are the ones that did not really add anything this year. So im guessing Cedar Fair is using the "tease" as marketing to make up for the lack of a big new attraction, while CP has Valravn that they can still market.

Here's what I don't understand. Is it really that important to refurbish Beast or Mean Streak instead of what they are already doing? That is building new steel coasters quite frequently. Wouldn't anyone prefer a new steel coaster over a refurbished ride? Can't you just ride Valveryn instead. Or hope that CP gets a new coaster soon that you might equally enjoy. What does Mean Streak have to do with your endless desire to have a new experience? And what makes it necessary that they take out the wooden coasters at the park to provide you with this experience?

Wouldn't you be better off with a new ride? Why wouldn't that be better?

No. It wouldn't be better because we'd still have Mean Streak.

I haven't been on an RMC conversion, but from what I've heard that are some of the very best rides around. An RMC Mean Streak conversion would be like building a new ride.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

RMCMS is a new ride. Of steel. Completely new experience

Watch the guy in the red shirt on Wicked Cyclone, He isn't in his seat for long. I went on that ride last year never being on the previous version but that ride blew my mind. Every little detail that added another pop of air. It is exactly what Mean Streak needs.

My Top 10- 1.Steel Vengeance 2.Fury 325. 3.Maverick 4. EL Toro 5. Millennium Force 6. Wicked Cyclone 7. Intimidator 305 8. Thunderhead 9.Boulder Dash 10. Diamondback 11. Lightning Rod

Wow, I really wanted an RMC to come to the park, but after watching that, I REALLY REALLY want an RMC in the park. Those look way more "wicked" (see what I did there) when the camera is reversed.

I know it would be redundant to have two launched coasters next to each other, but I can imagine having a 200ft tall Lightning Rod Mean Streak. I still don't like the idea of adding inversions.

Thanks CoasterKyle. While I get the fire retardant and the pesticide approach, keeping wood wet goes against everything I was ever taught about home ownership.

Lumber can get wet, drywall and floor coverings, however, cannot, as mold will grow quickly. It's why when you have water damage, everything except subfloor and framing comes out (unless it's very bad and has been for a long time).

So a few of you have answered my question. None of you appreciate wooden roller coasters from what i've seen in this thread. You'd just assume tear them down and build steel coasters in their place. Instead of building other steel coasters elsewhere.

And then what for those who desire to ride the classic wooden coasters? Brand new is not classic.

Renegade, you wouldn't still have Mean Streak. Cedar Point would still have Mean Streak. There is a difference. You don't have to ride it. You can ride the many other coasters.

If anything Mean Streak is the most unique ride in the park because it is different than almost any coaster there. Why change that?

Have you been reading this thread? It's not that we don't like wooden rollercoasters, it's just that most people here find that Mean Streak in particular is bad. Hell, some people have been demanding Topper Track to be used to that it can still be considered a wooden rollercoaster (even if it might not be too accurate for some of us). Mean Streak isn't even classic. The ride was built in 1991, and the layout isn't an out and back or figure-8 like most "classic" rollercoasters.

Also, sure we don't have to ride it if we don't like, but if CP keeps it, then they're wasting prime space that could host a more well-liked ride that brings more traffic to that area of the park.

I'm a supporter of fixing Mean Streak, but I don't think it's going to happen. The cost is too high for the returns.

I am really excited about the possibility of an RMC conversion. I wonder if it possible for Mean Streak to be modified into the tallest wooden coaster in the world? I am gonna have to trig it out and see. I suppose they could extend the ride more in the direction of Gemini to allow for this.

They could. Make the lift steeper and overbank the first turns. It's already longer than Magnum. I don't think it's too hard to make a 200ft monster out of that thing. The load on the structure is the concern.
