Obviously Cedar Point knows how popular Mean Streak is, thus the urgency they have to get it open right away so everyone can ride it.
Perhaps years worth of anecdotal observations of trains with 2 people on them, consistent walk ons, and days where the ride just doesn't open are indeed indicative of the overall pattern for this ride.
The problem with anecdotal observations is that they're, well, anecdotal; and especially so in the case of Mean Streak, since you have to go to some effort to be in a position to count how many people are on a train or whether it's a walk on.
A ride doesn't have to be popular. It just needs to attract enough riders over the course of the day to justify its existence.
I've said elsewhere: I think Mean Streak will continue to run a) as long as it meets whatever metrics Cedar Fair has in place for it or b) until Cedar Fair determines a better use for the space.

While I agree, I hope one of those metrics is: doesn't completely suck.
Having finally made it to Holiday World and getting laps on The Legend and The Voyage, if CP wants to be known as The Roller Coaster Capital of the World, they need a wood coaster on the caliber of what HW has to offer. To paraphrase Jules Winfield, MS is not even in the same sport as The Legend or The Voyage.

Hasn't Meanstreak been on a delayed opening and early closing now for the last couple of seasons? I could see it opening around Memorial Day weekend.
Or
TAER IT DOWNS!!!11
I remember a couple of years ago there was some sort of fire that closed it in September for the season. But last year I know I rode on closing day.
As for future plans for the ride, only time will tell if Cedar Point thinks a removal/renovation will be beneficial for the park. I know it's not cheap to maintain and has a less than stellar reputation, but they will think long and hard before investing in it. A renovation of Mean Streak would be way more involved and more expensive than the Mantis to Rougarou conversion. But again, this is a new era of leadership that is all about quality vs quantity. My guess is Kinzel never would have considered investing in one of the least popular coasters (Mantis) to drastically change the guest experience for the better. The mindset of that era is "we can build another one and then we have more" - whereas the current mindset is "let's see how we can make everything we have the best it can be." So for the first time, there is likely a stronger possibility than ever for the future of Mean Streak to change. It just remains to be seen if the folks in charge think it will be a worthwhile investment.

The thing about corporate made-up slogans like "roller coaster capital of the world" or "official soft drink of summer" or what have you is that they're corporate made-up slogans. There's no necessity to prove the claim.
I can call myself the official slithernoggin of Six Flags Great America, and no one can prove me wrong on the point. :-)

Noggin, It is no longer anecdotal evidence if multiple people see the same exact thing every single time. This is a consensus. It stopped being anecdotal a long time ago. Popular rides open as soon as possible. If you haven't noticed, Mean Streak is not one of them.
Also, You can call yourself "the official slithernoggin of Six Flags Great America" and no one can prove you wrong, but you also can't prove it to be right. Cedar Point has claimed to be "The Rollercoaster Capital of the World" and this is proven to be right by their decisions and priorities over many decades. Cedar Point proves this to be right. In 5 years chances are that MS will either be gone or redone by GCI or RMC (Prob GCI based on CFs track record).
