MillieMike, there's nothing wrong with optimism, but you're talking like this is a guarantee, when it clearly isn't. I'd love to see you be right, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.
I agree that something might be going on with Mean Streak. The RMC stake might be BS or means something else, but would Tony and his buddies really go around painting several hundred footers with neat spray-painted dots in an organized pattern just to troll enthusiasts?

I never understood as a kid what my dad meant when he would say we are spoiled living by a park like Cedar Point.
This!
Not only are we spoiled to have Point here in our backyards but Ohio in general has always been spoiled. Think about it. Up until the 2008 season we had 3 amusement parks in this state with 10+ coasters. On top of that we have Kennywood a short day trip from most of the state. I think Ohioans as a whole take for granted how lucky we are with not only the quantity of rides we have available to us but the quality.
Sorry Paisley & WolfBobs: tell me how spoiled I am after 5 straight months of like-90% gray skies & remind me how lucky I am to be in Ohio. To me it's compensation for the suffering ;)

(I have lived in Ohio all my life). I would rather have snow, -15 degree cold, and rain than other weather conditions such as hurricanes, earthquakes, and tornadoes like in other parts of the country. Yes, I realize that Ohio does have an occasional tornado, not like in the Tornado Alley.
Everything is relative. It's freezing here in the winter but if I lived somewhere warmer like Florida or Texas I would just be spending my entire summers hiding in the air conditioning. I'll take the snow, general lack of major natural disasters, and plentiful amusement park access. I'm good...

Yep, I agree...
Today at the park I really got to see Mean Streak up close for the first it seems that not only every footer is somehow marked, but numbered at the bottom as well. Unless they were always numbered and I didn't notice til now.
*Something* is happening. I just don't know if it will be significant or mundane.

Take with a grain of salt, but Screamscape is reporting that RMC will in fact renovate/redesign Mean Streak for the 2017 season.
I have found that Screamscape is often a lot more accurate than many give it credit for. Seems very early to be so sure though, especially if they are just going off of what we have seen. I do often wonder who their "sources" really are.
2018- Raptor
CP Top 5- 1)MF 2) Maverick 3) Gatekeeper 4) Top Thrill Dragster 5) Raptor
If I recall, it was mid-June last year when RMC posted job openings for upcoming projects (Lightning Rod, Storm Chaser) . Maybe history will repeat itself and we will find out soon!
Yup last year on June 17 RMC posted those job openings for surveyers
My Top 10- 1.Steel Vengeance 2.Fury 325. 3.Maverick 4. EL Toro 5. Millennium Force 6. Wicked Cyclone 7. Intimidator 305 8. Thunderhead 9.Boulder Dash 10. Diamondback 11. Lightning Rod
Take it with a grain of salt but we were informed that the Mean Streak crew will be assigned different positions after July... It's all starting to add up regardless.
I'm more excited for this than any other future plans in recent memory.
If the reassignments are true, this is probably the most significant news to date.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
Would cedar point convert mean streak after installing valravn though? I can see them tearing it down or starting on the conversion in 2017, but I can't see them actually converting it by next year.
Burritos, Inspiration Point, Fork Balloon Sports, Cards in the Spokes, Automatic Biographies, Kites, Kung Fu, Trophies, Banana Peels We've Slipped On and Egg Shells We've Tippy Toed Over
Well, I'm not sure why they wouldn't, but remember Texas Giant was out of commission for one entire season for the conversion. Granted it was the first, but I believe the others had quite a bit of downtime too, Colossus, Rattler, and Cyclone come to mind.
If Mean Streak's last ride is in July I suppose it's possible they could be done by '17.
Colossus was a 6-7 month conversion if I remember. If Mean Streak closed sometime at the end of July or even early August after peak season was over, a conversion of some type could potentially open in 2017.
I still think folks are assuming too much too quickly. The last two seasons have seen new coaster additions, with the Rougarou transformation last year and now Valravn. Plus, if the park only intended to operate the ride for a few months this season, would they have sent all three trains to PTC for refurbishment last year, especially since only two are in use this year? I'm not saying it's not possible, I'm just saying it's far from the certainty many folks are assuming.
Don't they send their wooden coaster trains to PTC every year anyways? Seems to me like it's a normal yearly maintenance so they had to do it regardless.
I remember before we knew about Mantis we saw different paint on a section of the track and if I recall some construction markings. I remember alot of people saying I doubt it means something and I always said come on, Of course it means something is happening and more than likely a Floorless conversion. I was right. I say it again. Look at the facts. There is survey and construction markings literally all over that ride and now this comes out. Of course it's getting an overhaul and I hope it is RMC. To me it's case closed. It's happening. We're gonna have an incredible new ride next year. I haven't been this excited for a new coaster maybe ever.

I was under the impression some offseasons it is done in house and every so often they are sent to PTC for a more major refurb. But I could be wrong.
