Again, Walt (and Jeff if you took any), very excellent pictures today! After actually seeing the colors of the seats and stuff put together I really think this is going to look good where they put it, because I was kind of worried at first.

Wow, I just now noticed that too.
Anyone else think some pictures of the construction from up on Space Spiral would be cool?
I dont know, but looking down on this thing from above when its in action will be pretty cool itself.... Almost as cool as looking down on Dragster station & People, & Launchin cars from Power Tower...
Why they are just using those tiny little black seatbelts to hold down that heavy shoulder restraint?
I know they know what they are doing but they just look so flimsy (and I am putting my kids on it, lol).
The seatbelts are there as a backup system for the actual restraint system. It's the same setup that is on Raptor. The restraint locks and the seatbelt will hold the restraint in place in case it unlocks during the ride.

It's a back up, just like on most rides. Look at Millennium Force, Dragster, Gemini, Wicked Twister, and most of the other roller coasters at Cedar Point, they have the lap bar or over head restraints but they also have the buckle just in case the lap bar or over head restraint systems fail.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

Which is very unlikely these rides are perfectly safe...
and considering that most of the newer rides are extra safe, in that they dont have premeasured ratcheting spots on them (ala B&M), but rather a system that will not allow them to be pressed up at all, but can be brought further down.
In addition to all that, those belts look pretty strong, too. Like the intamin belts.. they dont look like much, but are very tough.
The only problem with the machines are the people that run them, like we saw on Superman last year, but thats way off topic....
I think he's referencing the accident on Superman: Ride of Steel at SFNE last year. A man died when he fell out of the ride.
whats that red bar reaching across the top of the very top of maXair? Delirium doesnt have it.

As it has been mentioned, the belt is really the backup restraint. If you look in this photo, you can see what I assume is the hydraulic system keeping that restraint in place. If it's like the system on most other modern rides, it's probably redundant and not likely to fail more than once in a billion times, and even that is assuming it isn't properly maintained..

joseThey just didn't post the pictures of Security "escorting" them from the grounds. (If escorting is defined as running 10 paces behind).

Sorry to bring this up again as you've all moved on. I've been away from the internet a couple of days. I guess my post back there on page 2 must have sounded sarcastic, but I didn't mean it that way. I truly am impressed that Jeff and Walt are well-thought-of enough to be let in and take pics and look around and report it all to us. I certainly would have pics of security if I tried this. I only meant that I appreciate the pics as it's interesting for us and gives us something else of worth to post about here.
So thanks for being so well-thought-of.

I really like the hydraulic restraints. I rode Raptor a while back and I was just a bit to big to let it latch once more. So the restraint was at least 6 inches away from me. By far the scariest ride I ever had. I was pushed foreward on the corbra roll. I told the ride operator about me feeling a little discomfort about how far the restraint was from me and she pushed it and still didn't lock any further. My point being that the hydraulic restraints lock to your personal adjustment. The rides that apply this system (TTD, MF, WT, and I'm not sure about PT those feel different than the other rides) make me feel secure and take the worry of flying out a lot less. I know the other systems are safe as can be, but this is the way to go.

I agree Gomez. The hydraulic restraints lock where it's comfortable for the rider. I to have sometimes had the same problem on Raptor.
If that Over the shoulder restraint leaves a little room, the 1st roll on the Cobra roll will hurt.
I just really pull that restraint fast and hard to lock it in the proper place for me. It works if you pull fast and hard enough. Just be careful and try not pull so hard that you knock the wind out of you, because I have. *** Edited 1/31/2005 10:20:34 PM UTC by TTD 120mph***

It wasn't that the cobra roll hurt it was the fact that I was holding on really hard to the restraint and it flew forward giving me the feeling of literally falling out. I never had that problem after that though.
