Mantis removal or transformation?

After seeing this below.... I think CP is making it clear that we're not only saying goodbye to Mantis, but it's 145' steel structure as well? This is right from the website on Mantis' closure...

Cedar Point's massive stand-up coaster, Mantis, is closing for good on Sunday, October 19.

Since 1996, the 145-foot-tall steel bug has given more than 22 million rides. It was billed as the tallest and fastest stand-up roller coaster in the world when it opened. Mantis was built by the same legendary manufacturers that brought you GateKeeper and Raptor, Bolliger & Mabillard.

I'm not sure how listing the ride's record-breaking stats is an indication that it's going to be removed.

As much as I don't like it, it's pretty easy to read between the lines. It's not likely going anywhere.

By "closing for good" they probably just mean in it's current form. A conversion is still looking likely.

Ok, now that that is over, I am now wondering if the closing early 2 weeks before the season ends is a way to drive interest in the area AND allow the work to begin 2 weeks early in full view of the GP ( since the area is fairly easy to segregate without creating a safety problem).
So what you loose a handful of days ridership, you gain 2 weeks of site work and intrigue the GP at the same time.

Removal.

Why would a conversion to a new train type take almost as long as construction for a completely new coaster?

I would wager a dark ride will occupy that land next year.

You've changed your tune pretty quick.

Maybe this is like when you see a furniture store having a "Going out of Business" sale and advertising that they're "closing their doors forever." Then 2 months later it reopens with a new name, new facade, and different merchandise. :)

Bayou theming surrounding Millenium Island and gargoyles have been incorporated to CP, which are use to convey evil!?? Well what evil? Cuz IMO gargoyles really don't fit with your typical Halloween theme, but could represent a different direction CP may be taking the Halloween concept into the future!

Which brings me to Rougarou? A name that can be pronounced/spelled in multiple ways, and if you look at the link below containing Rougarou's Wikipedia, you may be able to paint the picture that I see? Is it also a coincidence that Cedar Point announced HEXED, a female witch themed haunted attractions that seems to be themed off of the Gargoyle/Gatekeeper theme? Legend has it.... Only a witch can create a Rougarou!!??

Now look at the pic from the Cedar Point blog on the website.... Go The last picture where it shows some out of place gargoyles sitting on pallets? Why are their two random, golden gargoyles sitting in Frontier Town? Why are the pallets painted that very common color to CF's latest giant coasters (Leviathan blue/teal), and is it a coincidence that that the gargoyles are gold? What are those gargoyles really for? I think Cedar Point fans are in for something next year IMO!

I'm pretty bad at doing that myself. I said I wouldn't go on Skyhawk anymore after the last incident and I ended up riding it on my last visit.

Those are for the ceremony that unleashes screamsters.

We shall see? I interpret that statement as CP referring to Mantis as the 145', B&M, steel roller coaster.. Not the name or theme IMO? They referenced that Mantis, a Bolliger & Mabillard coaster would be closing!??

Just my opinion, but I can I say that after my last ride on Saturday, I'm very much ok with the stand-up concept leaving the park regardless of how it has to be done LOL!

I don't post here much at all, but I visit the site and read basically everyday. My wife and I rode several standups at different parks this summer and I have to say, I'm glad the standup concept is finally going away. With that being said, Mantis is probably the only standup coaster that I have rode that I feel would be worth salvaging at least a portion of the track. I think it would be interesting if they left the first portion of the ride as is and added a vertical lift after the mcbr and made the second half of the ride into a dive machine. I highly doubt this is what they have in mind, but it would be a neat element similar to the Phantom's Revenge with drop #2 being the most breathtaking.

Actually, the tune was changed within 24 hours of the Mantis closure announcement (page 14 of this thread if you don't feel like looking).

Most all other comments made by DJ within the first few pages of this thread were how Mantis is being removed and how his great knowledge of coaster construction led him to believe a dark ride was replacing it.

Jeff even questioned his coaster construction experience, which I don't think was answered (page 2 if you don't feel like looking).

Yes, you did change your opinion after the announcement when new information was given. But for the first day after the announcement you were pretty set on Mantis not being converted.

I'm fairly certain that Jeff questioning why everyones imaginations were running wild had more to do with your mind changing than anything else. If Jeff kept quiet, you may still be saying it's a dark ride.

I would suggest looking at a 4D coaster.

Or a Steel Tracked Wooden Coaster like Goliath

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MvnyBFyx5Y

Something Ground Breaking for Cedar Point. I'd also love to see the Steel Dragon get a update as a 6'2" tall guy I can't fit in that coaster comfortably. I understand it's more of a mid - entry level coaster for little kids. But it's up to 10 years old if not older it's time for a update.

I'd also watch for something like this from the top Fuel Dragster Area

http://content.sixflags.com/comingin2014/greatadventure/zumanjaro-drop-of-doom/

michilson, if we're getting a 4-D coaster I'll take one like this please! :)

For some reason that Batman ride makes me dizzy just watching the video. Haha.

From the CP Twitter page:
"This new partnership with the @LJFamFoundation means we will not rename a coaster. It's all about helping kids and families!"

That eliminates speculation on a 'King James' coaster.

Once again Cedar Point has disappointed me 😒

Thanks for the link on the previous page, jsmith7300. I have extensive past experience working with coatings and adhesives, and I seemed to remember something about fumed silica having sound deadening properties. Plus, the stuff was incredibly light.

LOL - You were the biggest non believer here that CF would or would want to do anything to Mantis.

PS - Do rational people read their posts and check their use of words (new) prior to posting?

I just keep thinking of what else is unleashed into the world around 8pm, when the sun goes down?... Werewolves!

I wonder why there would be Gargoyles around? Especially If the rumor is true that Mantis is getting converted to a Floorless? Would it make much sense to name the ride Rougarou with Gargoyles around the ride?
