Tony is awesome!
I honestly don't care what the plan is. All I know is no matter what it will be great. Coaster or not. Like many have said, it's possible they refab mantis but I'm on the complete removal band wagon. And I also like the dive machine idea. Tallest dive coaster/title of having 5 coasters above 200ft.
I also like the aquatrax idea too. Time will tell soon enough.
Until then, Tony keep doing your thing!
That ride is coming down. Tony is probably pissing himself at how insane some of this speculation is getting. I've been reading this forum since the days of Maverick and "Project 2007" and I really feel as if this is deja vu from that whole project.
WWL was shut down two years prior to Maverick opening. Mantis is closing a week early and people say it is needed to transform the ride, all while Tony says the schedule is " a science"
Since I feel Mantis is being relocated, obviously the deconstruction is much more meticulous then throwing a wrecking ball at the structure and tossing it altogether. WWL was destroyed, thus, it could be taken down faster.
Throughout the season, I bet you site prep will occur just like Maverick.
CP is known for their world class collection of coasters. They have already stated that people don't like the ride. From a business sense, if something isn't liked by your customers, you get something new. Slapping a new train on there isn't going to change anyone's mind about the coaster but the enthusiasts. Someone will walk by the "transformed ride" and go "hey! that's the same ride! I hate that ride!"
With the massive amount of design and force analysis that goes into designing coasters, especially with a ride that has such an abstract style anyways "STANDING UP ON A COASTER?!!", changing the train would appear to be a huge mistake.
A new attraction is in store.

^ and do you know if they could use old footers from mantis? It would maybe be a diver with the smaller trains yet because I read that the steel tubes (track) had to be a lot thicker on dive machines to support the weight of the trains. I don't know anything or how strong those footers are or how tall the tallest diver could be though! Just wanna hear of anyone knows if they could use the old mantis footers. Maybe explaining the strange thing about mantis "randomly" closing 2 wks before this season.
The dive machine would (will❤️) be rougaroo! Like how we have the dive machines Kraken and Krake, two different divers at two different parks. Somewhere else (michigans adv. 2 hrs away from me 😍) would have the mini diver, Roo! And the other divers are already named after bad spirit anyway, it would follow that precedent for b&m's divers.
Dude, take a breath and just calm down. Footers most certainly will not be reused, why would you constrain a design to match up with existing footers?
Even if Mantis is torn down and 2016 is the next massive thing (coaster?), will there be something in 2015? Didn't McClure say that there will be a thrill-oriented ride in 2015? Could we be seeing a big new flat or 2?
I've been looking through old Mantis photos online and found one I have absolutely no memory of.
90's Mantis!

Walt has a great collection of the old character ride signs on Pointbuzz. I guess I never realized Mantis was missing from that set. (And I now realize that a couple others are missing too.)

I can still see a new flat in the Pirate Ride Area for 2015. Mantis replacement for 2016.
Arms Down, Head Back, and Hold On!...Arms Down!...Arms Down......
The more and more I think about it, I honestly now think Mantis is being relocated. I don't see the conversion happening unless it gets converted where it's located. I see a new coaster coming in mantis' spot for 2016. I really hope it's a 500' B&M around Millennium Island and goes over the water surrounding it and it's named Rougarou. I could also see a Dive Machine with a splash down in the water. I think that would be great. But as for next year, there is obviously going to be a "thrill ride" which makes me wonder. If Mantis is removed could they put in a flat ride in a little bit of Mantis' area and name it Exterminator? Just a thought. If not by mantis, then in PR buildings spot with a revamp of BS midway.
Quick question: i was looking at the golden ticket awards listings and it doesn't list like best steel and wooden roller coaster. Well not that I can find. Why is this
I for one would hope that they would not trade one gimmicky standing coaster for another gimmicky dive coaster. I hope that what ever ends up on the cool swampy area takes full advantage of the land and water itself and gives us a ride that feels like it takes you on a journey with a beginning middle and an end. I would love to see an element that has mind boggling air time over these very safe B&M inversions.
I'm with the group that thinks Mantis will be relocated. The former site will probably be blocked off with a tall fence next season.
I'm still thinking there will be a conversion.

Valravn Rides: 24| Steel Vengeance Rides: 27| Dragster Rollbacks: 1
If it's converted, I wonder if they are able to install the same sound deadening material as was built into Gatekeeper. I've always disliked the roar.
If all the players are ready...at the sound of the bell, ROLL EM!

Agreed. Even more so now after Tony's last blog post.

I agree 100%.... Which is why I also think they won't convert it! Such a gimmicky model from the 90's, originally designed to be a stand-up. If we off CP's history.... Will Cedar Point recycle a cloned B&M coaster layout within their own park, or will CF relocate the coaster to one of their smaller market parks?
Brings me to Rougarou's suspected swampy theme?.... Look at the swampy exterior of Mi and look at what coaster blocks the way onto the best access point of the island! What would go perfect with a new swampy themed park expansion?.... A new swampy themed attraction on the island! LOL may be a stretch but if I was Rob Decker or Matt Ouimet, this is exactly the direction I'd take CP! Just my opinion!
I expect multiple ride-closure announcements to be part of their 5-year plan and cannot wait to see CP's exciting future! Heck can't wait to see what all this build leads to this year?
On another note... Could this mean anything? From Tony's Housekeeping Blog.....
As I've said in the past, we do everything for a reason, including our timing. I can't divulge the specifics, but there's a science to the schedule. Maybe after coffee, I'll tell you. As long as you don't ruin my carpet with dirty shoes! ?????
Remember everybody... CP's Golden Ticket signs/banners will have to be removed or edited! Being the #2 park for the first time ever in the Golden Ticket Award era cannot be settling well with CF/CP.
