OK - so far no one really loves Mantis. Anyone who thinks its a great ride? Or - would you ride it two times in a row?
It's been a while since I last rode Mantis, but it's a ok ride. Had some good and bad runs on it. So if they remove it I won't miss it.
It might be a cool spot for a nice wooden coaster.
I'm sure whatever happens most of us will be happy 😎
Mantis was OK I suppose, but I haven't ridden it in years. The whole stand up thing was nice as a novelty for a while but now that I'm older and my feet hurt I don't see the point in having all the g forces of the ride pushing my feet into the floor instead of my butt into the seat. I'm also on meds that lower blood pressure even though I didn't have high blood pressure to begin with and I do OK with all the other coasters but I worry that standing throughout the ride may not work out so well for me. My kids like it but I can't say I would miss it if it was replaced by something else.
I think it just an ok ride also, not something I would re-ride or even stand in line for. It caters to a very small percentage of people, something I think Cedar Fair might have picked up on.

Been there, done that. 3 or 4x in 15 minutes, one of the worst decisions I've ever made in the park. Talk about a headache

I think the reasons why it gets busy is:
1.) People want to ride a roller coaster but Millennium Force is too busy or Iron Dragon is not thrilling enough...or busy.
2.) Many people have never been to Cedar Point and want to ride each roller coaster at Cedar Point.

I would love to see a woodie instead of Mantis! Maybe an Intamin pre-fab like El Toro? Or a GCI like Thunderhead?
Loving Maverick since 2007!
If they do remove mantis in the next couple years, perhaps they will move it to a sister park and if possible convert it into a floorless.
I personally think a woodie would look nice in that area. Not sure how much woods is there, but maybe have part of it run threw some trees. Low to the ground and even run under some of ID.
And if they got rid of the Dino's they could run part of the coaster on the island. Or even a new midway from mantis area to camp snoopy.
Just some ideas, not saying they are good ideas lol
A wood coaster could be a good fit, maybe a Rocky Mountain Coaster of some sort. But I think re-profiling and adding different trains would be the best option, just my 2 cents.
You guys have some great Ideas! However does anybody have that certain website where they could do a mock up of what the area would look like without Mantis as well as put a different coaster in Mantis's spot? I know Adam told me that a Floorless would never come to Cedar Point, but I disagree. I still hope that one day, a Floorless comes.
Mantis is one of a couple rides I wish we could see ridership numbers. Based on what we had in the past, Mantis and Power Tower had steep drops in ridership over the years. I really wonder if Mantis has continued to decline or become more consistent.

So what you're suggesting is that Mantis's decline in ridership (as well as obvious high maintenance costs) means it's next on the chopping block?!?!?! Couldn't agree more!! ;)

It looks like, according to that chart, that every ride at Cedar Point should be removed due to declining ridership.
Well I guess I'm one of the few that still like Mantis. However, If Cedar Point put something new In it's place, I would welcome that too. As for Power Tower, I hope they never get rid of that either.
All rides have declining ridership over time, but the variance in decline over time is what is interesting. Part of Mantis decline early on was the addition of seat belts to the ride, which eventually led to the removal of the 3rd train. Mantis likely isn't going anywhere, but it is interesting to see how trends change among which coaster types are "in".

I feel much safer on a ride if there are seat belts in addition to restraints. I've got a fear of restraints coming undone during a ride, but I know the odds of that happening are very slim, I probably got a better chance of winning the lottery. But that extra layer of safety makes me feel alot better.

I don't think those #s really matter, if u look the yrs of declining r the yrs when cp didn't get a new coaster and then it started up again with maverick. Honestly I've never had a problem with mantis. To me it's just there sometimes and if they were to remove it I don't think I care
The stand up coasters are boring. I haven't ridden Mantis in years, although partially because I don't fit anymore. Even if I did, I wouldn't ride it.
They should re-open mantis as a floorless. The trains can be earlier model ones, like Dominator, not Diamondback for example. They need to redo the station so that it can accommodate the floorless trains. You don't have to do much else. Also remarket the coaster as a new addition and people will come to the park to think it's a "new ride". Us regulars will know it as mantis with a new experience. I think it's worth a shot :)

Well....Dominator is a floorless, Diamondback isn't, just saying. Anyway - CP could use a floorless instead of that gimmicky stand up coaster. I think it would really round out their coaster lineup. Lets face it, Mantis is not a coaster we go to CP for, a good floorless might be.
