Mantis Future

Those are not anecdotal observations. They are fantastical ideas dreamed up by someone who is not be responsible for or likely not capable of justifying such an investment.

Anecdotal observation would be assuming that time you saw Mantis with no line means it never has a line, or that the other day when the line was long means the line is always long.

Thanks guys - I knew someone would help explain my improper use of the terminology. Did you see the wink though?

Actually clevelander I was agreeing with you 100% - you nailed it! For the record I'm not nitpicking, just stating my observations.

I did see the winky. But your reputation precedes you. :)

Seriously though I remember getting off the ride when it was new and basically leaning against the railing on the way out and my friends said I was a white as a ghost. I tried again the next year thinking it was just a fluke and got off the ride with one of the worst headaches I ever had and my crotch was killing me. That alone made me swear the ride off and have not been on since.

No Jay, sorry I didn't clarify, I was talking about DJ. The dude is just a jerk and thinks he is the king of these message boards. Just an all around arrogant jerk who nitpicks everything he can trying to be victorious in his own head about trying to be right about everything. I know the type, you can hear them in lines quoting ride facts to everyone within earshot while you can see everyone around them rolling their eyes. All you want to scream is SHUT THE @#^& UP! That is all carry on. :)

That's an awful lot of pretty pointed ad hominem nonsense.

And for the record, I'm the guy in line rolling his eyes.

No problem Clevelander, its all good. Just face it, he knows everything there is to know about parks and CP, and we all come here to be taught by him. ;)

back to topic:

1. Mantis produces a very uncomfortable head banging ride - noticed by me and many others.

2. I've been there 8 times now this season and every time at several different times of the day Mantis queue is empty and they are running half empty trains. Other rides had lines, well maybe not MS - haha.

3. It looks to me like Mantis has not been shown much love lately.

So what does all this mean? Who knows, just my anecdotal observations that the experts feel the need to chime in on and prove their worth here - lol.

From what I remember it really isn't a head banging ride all the way through, just a horrible transition towards the end that basically ruined my entire day by giving me a huge headache.

True enough. The first half is just ok, but the second half of the ride just ruins the entire experience for me. If you enjoy jumping off a building and landing head first on concrete, then this ride is definitely for you!

I remember going with some friends and family a few years back and was the only one who refused to ride Mantis. I stood and waited while they rode (walk on :))and they made fun of me for holding their stuff like an old person lol. I told them "You will be sorry!". I LOVED when they walked off and all looked drunk and woozy and said "We should have listened to you!". LOL after they recovered we still had a great time but man that was funny.

OK - so The Lemon Chill Guy transferred to Witch's Wheel!

On Friday while waiting in line for Witch's Wheel we struck up a conversation about LeBron James and which coaster it might be renamed for him. He claimed that it would be a temporary renaming of a coaster that was going through a "major renovation". I asked him if it was a wooden coaster (Mean Streak of course) and he said he couldn't tell me.

While he was locking me into the ride I said "Come on man - it is either "Mean Streak" or "Mantis"". He replied "Well it isn't "Mean Streak", but you might be on to something with "the other one".

So there you have it. Directly from The Lemon Chill Guy - The ride which will be renamed will be the Mantis - it will be temporary (till the end of the year) and then Mantis will have a major overhaul and be renamed during the off season.

As a side note - I spoke with Jason McClure at lunch on Friday and in a round about way asked him to confirm what the Lemon Chill Guy had said. I said something like "I have heard that Mantis is getting an overhaul during the off season..." He seemed rather defensive and said that nothing has been finalized at this point. Then he asked me where I heard about it. So I threw the Lemon Chill Guy under the bus and told him exactly what I heard. I got the "I can not confirm or deny" type of response.

So now that this is settled, we can move on to solving the problem of Mean Streak. See you all on that thread...

^Great info! Hope Witches Wheel guy doesn't get in trouble, though! A little concerning since he asked where you heard it. Should have said Tony. ;) ;) ;)

Kind of like your observations of the shooting gallery mean something???

Why throw Tony under the bus and risk his job? We like Tony. :(

Hmm, sounds like more than just some new paint! And I won't be so mad about renaming a coaster King James if it's just temporary for the season. But you would think the name change would happen soon in that case.

Shouldn't we be seeing some new track(most likely green track) at the steel plant near Cincinnati? Given they redesign Mantis layout?

Have you driven there to look?

Promoter of fog.

There's a bunch of track down there now. I think I read about 5 different colors of track is being fabricated at this time. White, yellow, teal, blue, and a red color.

I haven't ever followed the lead up to an announcement this closely before so I was wondering. With Gatekeeper was there track showing up at the B&M plant before the announcement that no one knew for sure what it was for? Or was the track being fabricated after the announcement?

I've never ordered a roller coaster before so I'm not sure what type of lead time is there ;)

If I remember correctly, Maverick track showed up covered in a tarp in Breakers Express parking lot before it was announced.

I believe days passed before the tarps were brought out. Even then, they weren't tied down well so they kinda blew off. However, Maverick's track showed up a lot earlier than normal.

And I think the concrete footers were put in the season before it opened.
