Major announcement on Monday morning!

Six flags opened four coasters in ONE year a little over an hour away.

And that worked out so well for the park that got four coasters in one year....

The point is that CP installed 3 coasters in 4 seasons in part because of regional competition. I'm not suggesting it impossible for a new coaster in 17.. But the park doesn't "need" a coaster to stay competive like it did a decade and a half ago.

To be totally honest, I would expect CP to get coasters leading all the way up to 2020 for their 150'th anniversary. They have added coasters the last 4 years. I would expect RMC Mean Streak next year plus a minor Soak City expansion, then for the next 3 years major/minor coasters until whatever 2020 ends up being. While the park really is not directly competing against SFMM anymore, I could see them regaining their "coaster crown" in 2020.

I think tomorrow morning will bring something like the "Darkness falls on #12" or whatever they called the neat video announcing Mantis was closing, but for Mean Streak. Then, the ride closes on the 14th (last day of Cedar Point Nights, I believe!?) Only to be announced as an RMC hybrid a week or so later.

I don't think the ride will be called Mean Streak anymore, I was actually thinking Centurion. Naming the ride something related to Mean Streak might not be the greatest idea, as the ride already has a bad reputation, and a name like Centurion would be a lot easier to market. Make a marina-style gate back by the Lighthouse point area; just an idea. Also Centurion wouldn't really fit with frontier town, but, a Centurion is a Roman guard in some cases, so the word's largest hybrid coaster would fit the name and the new gate idea. Plus I think they could make it work with the area.

Those are just my thoughts lol

I think the park would be missing out on a HUGE opportunity if they didn't add the 20th coaster in 2020, which is also the 150th anniversary.

We also have the Breakers Express update coming, yes? I would have to add that a much, much needed update to Sandcastle Suites would be a welcome announcement.

Promoter of fog.

Let's try to keep our hopes down for tomorrow. While most of us want an RMC Mean Streak, there is no guarantee.
I agree about the 20 in 2020. That would be a fantastic marketing campaign, however I think that they would go the route of dark ride with a coaster portion for #19.

I see all these people mentioning Soak City, what evidence do you have that makes you think an update will come there? Or is it just wishful thinking?

The large empty plot of land where Challenge Park used to be. And wishful thinking I guess.

......among some enthusiasts. Whether the general public, who continue to ride the ride, feel the same is questionable.

As I have said before, whenever I am around MS I always hear people voicing their negative opinions of the ride.

Mean Streak is surprisingly crowded tonight, maybe people are anticipating it closing. I did 5 laps so far just in case Mean Streak's life is on the chopping block.

Since Mean Streak requires special effort to be around (having to wait for a train to pass and so on), why are the people you hear voicing negative opinions around the ride to begin with?

Usually while waiting for the train or walking down the MS exit ramp.

So people who don't like the ride are either waiting for the train to pass so they can get to the ride, or they are exiting the ride? Why do they want to ride a ride they don't like?

And assuming they are novice riders, well, as long as enough people are riding the ride to meet the metrics Cedar Point established for the ride, whether they like it or not doesn't really matter.

I've been on MS more this season that the past 5 years combined and nearly everytime I hear the same negative comments exiting from the ride. Of course not everyone says things but even my 9 year old son has picked up on it while we exit the ride.

I also think that MS is more unpopular with the GP than it is with the enthusiast crowd, a reversal of what some here seem to think.

Bottom line, folks can call it whatever they want, anecdotal evidence etc... The writing is on the wall same as Mantis, lines were short, people complained about it, and "guests voted with their feet". There were people who liked Mantis trying to make excuses and justifications for the lack of ridership but in the end Mantis was converted to Rougarou. Mean Streak will not exist in its current form for much longer, that writing is on the wall with a massive spot light and perhaps even a strobe large enough that most can't miss it...

I'm assuming they had never ridden it before and they were either drawn in by its inviting looks or simply rode it for the fact that it's there. I meant waiting to board the train.
I firmly believe that all experiences at an amusement park should be comfortable for a majority. If it is boring for some, well you can't please everyone.

Caps are for emphasis not yelling.

Uh... no, any ethical company doesn't give their customers crap. Stay off the speculation thread if you don't like hearing people voice their opinions.

If the announcement is that MS is permanently closing, I want dibs on first chainsaw. I can't wait to see that eyesore disappear.

MS may suck as a ride but it is definitely not an eyesore. It's one of the best looking rides in the park.

Especially at night with water on the ground. If you've seen it, then you know what I mean.

Cedar Point surveys guests quite a bit on their experiences at the park so there is much more than just ridership numbers and turnstile clicks. I'm also certain that maintenance costs will be a metric that plays a major part in the fate of MS.

I'm sure folks will be able to ask park management such questions about MS in the next few years (months perhaps?) after the closure is announced.

Even after stating all this I must say I am very skeptical that tomorrow's announcement will be about MS, although I obviously hope it is. I for one am all the way on the RMC bandwagon. That would almost have me as excited as an announcement of a combination flume/dark ride on the old STR site. But a nice Soak City expansion sounds great to me as well... So many possibilities

I was thinking of something old timey/western to fit with the frontier town theme.
