Look LIke MS Will Be Staying Afterall

Generally, how I look at roller coasters. They are all fun. Do I sprint to Millennium Force during my resort ERT? Yes. (First train of the day is a need for me) Is Iron Dragon still fun after it. Yes.

On a side note: I think they'll trim the Son of Beast to death just like it's father. : \ In which case, it would be better to tear down my #7 coaster.

Summer was made for a Cedar Point day~

WHo said MS was even leaving in the first place?

I'm sure it's been talked about for years, but this is the most recent one.

Rumors of Mean Streak's demise have been greatly exaggerated.

They've been going around since I hopped into this Interwebs thing of ours in 1998.

For those who claim that wood sucks, can you tell me what other wooden coasters you've been on other than at Cedar Point, Geauga Lake, and maybe Kings Island that feel this way? I understand it's an opinion, but what do base that on? How smooth steel coasters are? That they can do things that wood cannot? Or because the wooden coasters that you have been on are not good?

I can at least say my distain for Mean Streak stems from visiting parks like Michigan's Adventure (Shivering Timbers), Indiana Beach (Hoosier Hurrican and Cornball Express - not the greatest rides, but very fun and well maintained), and Holiday World (Legend, Raven, & Voyage). After riding those and coming back home to ride Mean Streak is just sickens me.

As much as I do love Skyhawk, and it is a great addition to the park, it cost what, $6M to build? The Voyage cost HW $6.5M to build. I'm not saying that I wish Cedar Point would spend their money wiser, but instead of $25M for a coaster that - in my opinion - was a flop (granted, they don't have a crystal ball) and upwards of $200,000 a year for Mean Streak's maintenance, I'd rather see them invest in a Gravity Group coaster in place of Mean Streak. And for those who say "Mean Streak is such a beautiful coaster to look at", you too would care less about how Mean Streak looked if it gave you a ride like the Voyage does. Just my opinion. :)

What was your opinion on the Voyage? Was it a lot smoother then Mean Streak? In my opinion I think Son Of Beast is the roughest Wooden Coaster I've been. The first hill and helix and loop are comfortable, but the rest of the ride. OUCH! I'd Ride Mean Streak 10 times before I ride that. When I last rode it was when it opened and it hurt, but who knows it could be smoother now for all I know.

To rebuttle CP4eva'04:

Location has little to do with ridership, especially for coasters. If that were the case then Corkscrew would have among the highest. Sure location effects line length during certain times of the day (like Raptor in the AM), but overall one cannot blame poor ridership of the MS on its location. Many (not all) people just do not like it and really dislike the roughness that the ride had a few years back (even if that isn't an issue in my opinion at this time.)

The Voyage is brand new. I thought Mean Streak was smooth when it first opened too. Only time will tell how well The Voyage stands up. I'm sure it will be better than MS, but still. I don't think its fair to compare a coaster that is 15 years old to one that was just built. This get rough over time. Even Magnum is way rougher than when it first opened. MF isn't as smooth as its opening season either.

Yes, true the Voyage is brand new. It will be interesting to see how this ride ages. But if its anything like Raven or Legend, then there will be no signs of aging. Remember, Raven is already 11 years old itself and is running as fast as ever, and is still very smooth. I doubt the next time I get down there, that Raven or Legend will be trimmed, or modified in any way. Its all about the maintenance of the ride, and at HW, they take pride in the care they give their coasters...they only have three, and those are their babies. It's what brings people to the park (along with the water park)...not that Cedar Point doesn't do this, but it usually seems they put the minimum amount of capital into their rides to maintain them as well as possible. ie. going above and beyond than just keeping them safe.
