Lines: D.J's VS. Fun Tv

So with the Fun Tv replacing the DJ's the rides had in the lines, what did you like better?

DJ's,as requests for a song could be made, but then how would Cedar Fair/Cedar Point get their promos' in.

Something that could be implemented would be a texting request session. They already have the signs up to send a text if a restroom needs attention or other things throughout the park. Really the only hard part is someone that needs to read each text and implement the request. But that's something I would think software could fix.

It's been a while since they've had DJ's in any lines, hasn't it?

I seem to remember a DJ in the millennium line in 2013, but I may be mistaken

2015 - Ride Host: Shoot the Rapids 2016 - Team Leader: Ripcord/Challenge Golf 2017 - Supervisor: Thunder Canyon 2018 - Supervisor: Camp Snoopy 2019 - Supervisor: Power Tower

This season, I saw DJ booths in the que for Magnum and MF-empty and collecting dust/bugs & trash that people tossed carelessly. I'd asume they (DJ's) went by the wayside after FunTV was installed, and more live entertainment options being added elsewhere throughout the park.

Keep passing the fun along!

I miss the DJs. I do enjoy FunTV too, especially after this pilot year, but it was always fun to request songs and have a live experience like that. Oh well. I also like the idea of having a text-request system. That would be pretty cool!

I just read this article on Funworld (http://www.iaapa.org/news/funworld/funworld-magazine/marketing---november-2014) about Que LIne TV's.

I found this line near the end of the article very interesting

He (Matt Shafer, Cedar Fair's vice president of strategic alliances) says FunTV is about to launch an interactive poll whereby guests in a certain ride queue can access music videos and select ones they want to see, and those votes are tallied and the top choice is played.

So he pretty much had the same idea I had earlier. He goes on to mention that they have 3 phases for content, so I expect to see the content get more custom and geared toward individual rides. They also mentioned that Waterparks will be added later which is where more use for the TV's in my opinion (Not many people keep their cell phones on them in those lines.)

DJ's were nice back in the day, but I'll take the TV's..I don't pay full attention to the TV's honestly, when I'm on point I'm either on my own watching the rides, people watching, and enjoying the atmosphere, or with friends and having fun with them. I'm not there to watch TV. I'm there for the park and to make memories and have fun.

Some content I pay attention to, but not all. I'd like the POV's & stuff like that, those are things I like, or the occasional ad or whatever, and maybe a good music video (Totally surprised the park played Drop Kick Murphy's & Nirvana, never thought they'd go that route).

But DJ's only can do one thing, play music, and it'll generally be the top tracks at the time, and that's it. A TV system has a much higher potential than a DJ, so I'll stick with what they started, it's going to go far.

I enjoy the trivia quiz that pops up every now an then, my favorite being the question about what kind of coaster Maverick is. One of the answers was "dirt coaster", just cracked me up laughing.

It would be cool if they could somehow integrate that with mobile phones, perhaps texting the correct answer number. Then, displaying the winner who got the answer in first, and maybe a breakdown of statistics for the different answers.

I'm partial to the question of Millennium Force's green train. :)

I really liked the music in the lines. Magnum's line would always play 80s songs, MF's line would play modern hits/techno remixes, mantis and raptor always had 90s mixes, but recently have been playing latest hits and such. Fun TV can get annoying esp. when the music videos come on. (there's this one I dont approve of)

with the TVs, all the lines no longer have the unique music, they play the same thing no matter the line you're in.

I don't think people spend as much time in lines as anyone thinks they do. Not like it used to be, at least. The overall capacity of the park is insane compared to what it used to be in 2000.

Right..I'm off on midways more than lines unless I'm trying to get a ton of rides in over & over

Hell I spend more time in the Frontier Trail than anything now, and I never thought I'd say that. But between shows, music, and the beer/wine shop, a good portion of my day is over ther

DJs, but that means another pay check to cut. I liked how the music played in the lines played off of the time period the ride opened, especially the 80's and 90's of Magnum, Raptor and Mantis.

I like the video screens more. It would be nice if they could find a way to do live cut-ins. Or bolt some cameras onto some of them for crowd shots, etc. Not all day but just a touch of visual, live moments to break the haze people get into after watching more than a few minutes. Better live sports and weather would be good. Maybe some moments of live feed from the webcams, etc.

It's a good start though.

Some live cut-ins are a great idea. I can envision someone working the crowd in line with some trivia questions with front on line passes for prizes or some other games with similar prizes. They do that between innings at Progressive Field and it generally is entertaining and fun to watch.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

I wasn't so much thinking in terms of that as much as fixed assets pointed at things with at most an approach simular to how radio companies use one crew to provide "news and traffic" for several cities at once. Meaning for the CF parks using the system, you could have scheduled live cut-ins where they seem as though they are at an individual park, turn on a camera over a line, on ride, or whatever, gives some shout-outs, etc, then roll along. Saves time, money and man-hours.

You have Tony and his Tweetups, stuff like that could possibly work its way into things.

Cruise ships love producing videos of trips, which are really templates with some fresh video dropped into them. Why not look at doing away with the photogs at the entrance and convert them to roving videographers. Mesh that with the fixed cams in ride-lines, drop it into templates, and sell the videos online. Pump-them on the TVs while folks wait.

Just a thought.

Roving trivia and such might work better if there were more monitors outside of the ride lines. Maybe in some of the food venues, some seating areas, pre-show seating, etc.

I love the "live interaction" idea. People always talk about ride line times on FunTV, I think reminders for Live-E start times would be awesome. It can help plan what you want to do next while in line and maybe draw more people to the shows. We always talk about seeing this show or that show but always lose track of time. And live broadcasts could be great, too. I like the idea of live trivia. Allow a Twitter stream (WWE does this during their TV broadcasts, Monster Jam has a Twitter stream on the big screens in the arena) so people can mention their favorite activities, send out a birthday wish, or whatever... Quick live polls people can text to participate, then show results. Weather and traffic is a great idea too. The interactive possibilities are endless!

Magic Kingdom just introduced their new version of 'Move It, Shake It, Celebrate It Street Party' which involves guest interaction using social media. Each float has giant LED screens that show pictures that guests have taken and tweeted using #moveitshakeitpics. The show has a Tech who picks pictures off of Twitter and Instagram and then drops them into a template that is then displayed on the floats in real time. Disney does this all of the time for pop-up events too at the parks and guests really love it. Something like this would be very easy to accomplish at Cedar Point with FunTv.
