OK, I think I'll chime in with an opinion. We all have them...
At this point, all signs are pointing to an Aquatrax.
1. Kinzel said a while back he was thinking of replacing WWL with a new water ride.
2. The track is Intamin.
3. So far, it is all triangular intamin track.
4. Footers appear to confirm that the WWL station will be reused.
5. Jeff's comments about tapering our expectations as far as size, and Jeff's comments that enthusiasts may be disappointed.
6. CP removed a popular family ride, and the only family water ride that does not soak you. I believe the park management is concerned with a) filling that gaping hole in the lineup of park offerings, and b) adding attractions that draw families, not just thrillseekers.
The only thing that remains much of a mystery to me is, why start so early? To which I believe there are two likely possibilities:
1) They plan on doing a lot of landscaping / theming after structural ride construction is complete. While I am aware of CP's philosophy on theming, look at WWL. There was a decent amount of theming done on that ride, with the old buildings, faux rock, etc. Water rides in general tend to have this kind of scenery. It would fit well in this area (FT). WWL was one of the last naturally scenic areas of the park. I can't help but think that fact is not lost on park management and that they plan on making that scar of a parcel look pretty again.
and/or...
2) There will be a second major new attraction for 2007, possibly even located elsewhere in the park (maybe a coaster where DD is now, extending out into the parking lot) and construction on this other attraction will begin in the fall and continue through the winter.
I can't remember the last time Cedar Point invested heavily in a "family" attraction. Yes, resorts could be considered family attractions, but those aren't inside the park. When we look at rides that the park has added over the past decade (or longer), what has been a family attraction?
hmmmmm......keep thinking........oh that's right, there haven't been any.
Every attraction has been geared toward the thrill seeker. Granted, they've put in the woodstock express and other kid-themed areas, but those in no way compare to the investments they've made in thrill rides. Cedar Point is their "thrill" property and I have a feeling it always will be.
They were concerned about foot traffic in Frontier Land, so they installed Skyhawk. That's not a family ride. My parents wouldn't DREAM of going on that. Now they're putting in Project 2007. I don't think its going to be a family ride either. Then again, I don't think its going to have anything to do with water either. So, maybe I'm totally off-base. LOL!!
I think Skyhawk is a family ride. It excludes fewer people based on its height requirements, which is about all CP can do when putting in a new attraction. Whether or not a particular person wants to go on the ride is a different story.
I would think that any parent that would go on any of the coasters would go on SH as well. And, seeing as how their children have a greater chance of riding it as compared to a lot of the bigger rides, it does have family appeal.

Which signs are those?
1. Kinzel said a while back he was thinking of replacing WWL with a new water ride. -- He never said that.
2. The track is Intamin. -- So is the track on Millennium Force, Wicked Twister and Dragster.
3. So far, it is all triangular intamin track. -- So is the track on more than half of Intamin's other coasters since 1999.
4. Footers appear to confirm that the WWL station will be reused. -- There are no new footers in the WWL station, and even if there were, it just means they'll use the station, not indicate the type of ride.
5. Jeff's comments about tapering our expectations as far as size, and Jeff's comments that enthusiasts may be disappointed. -- Also has nothing to do with being a water ride.
6. CP removed a popular family ride, and the only family water ride that does not soak you. -- Also not a reason.

I'm particularly interested to know what type of restraint will be used on the coaster. I'm assuming this would have been a big issue when considering Intamin with all the issues Cedar Point has had with Millennium Force. It seems to me Intamin was moving in a forward direction with the "bucket" seating on TTD and completely abandoned it for OTSR after the incident at Six Flags, which is a shame, when you consider it was more of an operational issue than anything. *** Edited 5/23/2006 5:51:08 PM UTC by Italics***
I am pretty sure the OTSR on KK were a park preference and not mandatory by the manufacturer. If it were a saftey issue, Im sure Dragster would have them by now.

I didn't say what it would or wouldn't be, just that people draw conclusions from non-data.

It doesn't seem like DT is waterfront. : )
I had a good idea on what the small footers might mean. They could do something like Black Mamba at Phantasialand and do a CP version of theming (Plant trees, Put woodchips under the rides path, add nice fences) and add an elevated path right in the middle of the ride. It would start over by the FT train station(ending over by TC) and snakeing it's way through the roller coaster, intertwining with its elements. They could add shops at the beginning and end of the path, before it becomes elevated. It would help the people that are too lazy to walk around the park and want to go straight through.
