Well its interesting, because there is also a horn when a train heads up the lift. It sounds like dueling geese... I'm not sure if its permanent, but I'm guessing it is...

^^Usually thats all automatic... they will have two train in the launch area at a time, so once the train enters the appropriate block in the launch area, the train waiting at the bottom of the hill will go forward, along with the bottom train launching. It seemed like whenever you heard the horn, there was a train just starting its assent up the hill.

Well it wouldnt be a train without the horn, would it? I always expected some kind of horn or "whistle". It's a train!
Promoter of fog.
Especially if you're the train and you're blowing your horn at horses or whatever else is going on in the tunnel. It would be cool if they made a warning horn into the theme of the ride.
Hmm. Now im getting cautiously optimistic about a really cool well placed bit of theming in that tunnel. I like your idea ^^^

Hey gang :) Long time "lurker" first time poster.
Interesting, especially if you noticed something in this picture like I did...

^When the train enters the tunnel, the railroad crossing signals make chime sound (not sure what they call it) and then as the train rolls a little further in, the horn blows and a very large rumble sound takes over as it launches.
The horns and the rumbling can be heard over the entire area from Snake River Falls to Mean Streak.
The signals have lights on them, but they weren't lighting up when they were testing.

Man - That's going to be quite fun to listen to while waiting in the queue house. So much for a "surprise". :)
Would you like them to have sound proofed the tunnel? ;)

Ride on, MrScott!
Nah, it won't bother me - at least not this year. No queues for me. :) I was just looking out for the rest of you.
The best thing to compare the sound of the launch warning horn is the sound at the beginning of the song "Man I feel like a woman" by Shania Twain. You laugh, but my friends and I stayed in Cottage 2 at LHP and were on the deck and my friend thought he heard that song. If you've ever heard the song, there is a guitar in the beginning. The very first 2 chords played sound like the horn. lol
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
^Sadly I know what you're talking about. :)

Just to clear something up, the air horn that sounds before the trains launch/ascend the lift hill is, as someone pointed out earlier, just to let Maintenance/Construction know to clear the area. It won't be there during the season.
We tried to turn it off before but were promptly told to turn it back on by a certain very high Maintenance boss. Oh and Tony still has some surprises for you guys, don't worry. *** Edited 5/16/2007 4:27:05 AM UTC by WaterDummy***

I hope they keep the horn, I like it

LOL reminds me of the golden goose horn in the original "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory"...you know...good egg, bad egg (honk honk!) :)
Not to be confused with Twisted Wicker 08 from 2002
As a seasonal, why would you ever try to turn something off without first checking with a Supervisor or even higher? Anyway, I kinda like the dueling geese horns, but I figured they would not be permanent.
Besides, with the Paramount Park acquisition, I thought a "Goose" sound would fit well with "Maverick"... (get it?)
Twisted Wicker, you hit the nail on the head. That is precisely the sound I thought of when I heard the noise... haha.
