Just wondering if anyone knows if there was going to be a launch warning like they did for Dragster?
When I went there today to get my season pass we watched it cycle a few times. It seemed as soon as the train was ready to move up the lift hill or before it launched out of the tunnel it made 3 loud air horn-ish noises.
Just wondering if it's just a warning for the ride operators or if it's what is really going to sound while you start to travel the course of the ride?

I just got back from King's Dominion and I noticed on several of the rides that after the ride operator said "all clear" an air horn would sound. I thought it was strange, but maybe that is a new safety feature.
I'm guessing that's for the people around the site know when the ride is running. As for any kind of warning, I wouldn't think so, but it is possible for some type of sound before the launch in the tunnel.

Im sure that it is to let anyone working on or around the ride know that the train will be coming. In this time of the year there are alot of maintenance crews working in close proximity to the track. Once the park opens there probaly will be no more air horns.
Didn't happen to get any pics or videos did ya?

I did, but the videos are poor cell phone quality ones. Each clip is only about 15 seconds long anyway. I can post them once I upload them to YouTube, but it won't be anything exciting (granted, If I am allowed to do that).
But my phone does take decent quality pictures. I'll post them up in here in a few mins.

Kingda Ka has the air horn sound every time it launches. The only other Intamin launcher I've been on (besides TTD and WT) was Rita and it didn't have any kind of audible horn. So, I'm not sure.
Did Maverick look really cool as it was running? Anything you weren't expecting (besides the horn)?

Your picture of the fence is way better than the one on the blog. Well, at least for showing its not as bad as we thought. It looks way taller in T&Ts picture.

The gates were open back there, it's not like the road was blocked off in anyway at all. If that was considered "trespassing", I AM SORRY CEDAR POINT.
There were a bunch of people watching it test anyways. So I'll use the excuse "But everybody’s doing it!"

Oh. I was just bracing myself incase someone was gonna get on my case for trespassing. Seen it happen plenty of times on this board.
Sorry if I came off the wrong way.
Edit: Yep, deleted. I wish that who ever deleted it would have at least left my description of the ride intact. ;) *** Edited 4/19/2007 2:18:48 AM UTC by Coaster Krazy***

Walt won't buy your "excuse" and will take down your links though. But, thanks for posting - I liked them. :)
When was it testing? I got to the center around 5:40 and was affraid to go down PR to check out Maverick. My friend and I did go to Battery Park to see if they were going to run some trains, but alas, they didnt.
I did however get some pics while I was there. One was taken inside my car so sorry, in advance, for the crappy quality.:)

And my friend and I stopped at TGI Fridays for dinner so I snapped a pic of the new entrance.

For those who have seen Maverick testing, do the sand filled supports make a big differeance in sound?

I can vouch for that already as I've been on Storm Runner and they filled it's supports with sand. And YES it makes a huge difference! If you didnt pay attention, a train could sneak right up behind you and you wouldnt know it.:)
If Maverick is anything like that, we can expect a very, very quiet ride.

Intamin trains already seem pretty quite on MF and TTD. I can imagine it might seem a little eerie (sp?) to have them be much quieter.
It's all good though... I'll still ride creepy roller-coasters :)

I think the only coaster I've seen in person with sand-filled supports was Talon at Dorney Park. Yes, it was quite strange having it so quiet. I sorta missed the B&M roar on that ride. But, it was still a great ride. CP has plenty of rides that make lots of noise, so it will be nice to have a quiet one. :)
Walking under Corkscrew you always get that track hum of the approaching train and rattling of the metal screens that shield pedestrians. Millie seems more sneaky - you don't hear the train coming, just the voices of the riders. There's no public access underneath Mav (right?) so it shouldn't seem that weird.
Just say no to trims
