Launch Warning?

Coaster Krazy's avatar

The launch on Maverick seemed really quiet as well. Not very loud at all like Wicked Twisters launch.

Seeing as that they are two different types of launches, that may have something to do with it.

Ride on, MrScott!

Plus one is in a tunnel.

When I was checking out our dock at the marina I heard an air horn back towards Maverick...then I saw a train crest the Maverick lift hill. (It was very hard to see. I wouldn't have seen it at all had there been leaves on the trees and we didn't dock up at the north end.)

So I'm going to assume that it's an air horn warning. *** Edited 4/20/2007 9:20:26 AM UTC by Scott***

Millennium sounds a faint horn below the station right before the catch car engages (I think).

That is for maintenance people who may be under the track to know that the train is getting ready to move...

TTD warning is sit back and hold on then wait till the tree goes green. Wicked Twister warning is you will be launching in 3, 2, 1.

The horn is probably just a temporary thing, like for when it tests. Kingda Ka at SFGAdv used to have a loud horn, but now they only use it when it tests in the morning. But knowing CP they'll probably think of something creative, Unlike Six Flags.

I always thought it was the train rolls out of the station, the first set of lights on the christmas tree turn on reading "Pre-Stage", the train gets about halfway out and the next set of lights turn on and an announcement is given (Keep arms down, head back, and hold on!), engine roars, a few moments later the kicker wheels go down, the train rolls slowly back into the catchcar, the brakes then go down making a loud hissing noise, the christmas tree lights up quickly (yellow, yellow, yellow, green), screeching tire sound effect blast out, and the train rockets down the track.

I know, I know, to much information, but that's the best part of the ride and you explained it in one sentence. It needed more detail. :)

Adam would agree.

Most of the coasters with low zones sound some kind of warning prior to restarting the ride.

I hope it doesnt have a warning. It would be a better ride with that surprise in there.

Let's Get Weird.

Millennium Force does not. I have a friend that was in the front low zone after he was given permission to enter at the end of the night. He was cleaning trash out like every other night. Suddely a train passed. The music in the quene was playing so they couldn't hear the train. It was noticed that another train was proceeding up the lift so he quickly left the low zone.

Because the person in charge was on his final and near the end of his contract, the incident was kept low even though it could have easily caused an serious injury or worse. Sadly it's not the only case where a train was dispatched while the low zone had someone in it.

The horn only sounds when the ride is being turned on, not every time a train is dispatched (at least at Raptor).

Kingda Ka has the air horn sound every time it launches. The only other Intamin launcher I've been on (besides TTD and WT) was Rita and it didn't have any kind of audible horn. So, I'm not sure.

Did Maverick look really cool as it was running? Anything you weren't expecting (besides the horn)?

Every intamin launcher has some kind of warning.. be it horn, countdown, launch lights, or christmas tree.. so I expect Mavvy to have one too.

Yes, But not every Intamin is a mid-launch ride...

I just looked at the video on youtube, and I can't believe how quiet Maverick is.

^it was pretty quiet, but it is hard to tell from that video, I can't wait for an actual POV to be released, or just to ride it myself.

I said launcher, as in every type, not just accelerators.

I realize this, and did when I posted the first time, and yes all the rides mentioned have some form of warning before you are launched, not just the accelerators, but so do the impulses, I know what I ment when I said it.

Those rides start you out with a launch as opposed to Maverick which has it's launch Mid-ride...so I wouldn't be surprised if it was quiet and without a "horn" or warning so to speak.

Does the train come to a complete stop before it launches in the tunnel? or just slows down?
