lap bar or shoulder restraints????

With xcelerator not having shoulder restraints but some pretty fancy head rests, anybody think that due to the extreme forces from the twist down or the speed itself will require #16 to have any extra safety restraints? (i hope not)

Got One?? Yeah, it's a metallica thing.
Love ya tiffers, always will.

I could see the need for a shoulder harness....but I'm praying for the same set up as Millie.
This has been discussed a million times already, guys. The ride will most likely feature the same restraint system utilized on Xcelerator. It's essentially the MF restraints with a bit of a bend.

Yeah...thats what us fat people are for....to hold down the skinny ones on the ride.....
LOL,LOL,LOL
If you think about it, you never go upside-down on this ride.

Son of Beast and Flight of Fear at PKI go upside down and all they have are lap bar's. I'm sure the restraints will be just like Xcelerator.
no horse collers

Seat belts, lap restraints . then i'll fit

I'm not an old fogey, I'm just an old coaster rider..

Xcelerator does it's twisting on the way up and down and doesn't have shoulder harnesses. Just because #16 twists a little further shouldn't give them a reason to use harnesses IMO. Personally I would much rather have just a lap bar. 400' high with all that openness (is that really a word?) would be pretty sweet. With the harnesses I feel more like I'm IN a ride instead of ON it, they might as well give you your own plastic bubble (not a bad idea during mayfly season!). Besides, I'm 6'4", I don't know what the max height for a harness is but that's gotta be pretty close. Mantis gets a little too personal for my liking.

I don't know how many times it has to be said. There is no advantage to OTSR's. They do not secure you anymore than a lap bar. You're not any less likely to get tossed.

DELETED!

I will be a little disappointed if there are OSTR's, only because my hubby wouldn't fit. Although we are both going on the Adkin's diet after the first of the year.

He's decided he wants to ride WT, and needs to drop enough weight to make a difference in his chest size. Just 3/4 of an inch.

I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead

Atkin's is crazy! Don't do it!

Not that the concept is crazy--for many people with a particular problem it's dead on correct. But you can't live your whole life on his diet. I have four words for you: The Carbohydrate Addicts Diet. Get the book, read it twice, do what they say.

Don't believe me? Click on my info and think about this: I weighed 275 until I started and in five years, the weight has never come back. Think about this, too: Midway Market is a regular part of this diet. You heard me.

Oh, yeah -- the restraints. I have but one word: Codpiece.

What extreme forces are you speaking of Millennium Matt? The twist on the way down will be experience in free fall and the twist will be just as forceful as if you where looking down and turned 270 degrees. Jeff is right OTSRs only fasten you in the same place as lap restraints do. so what's the point?
Not that they're necessary, but the Intamin OTSR's on Colossus (the 10-looper at Thorpe) are actually quite comfortable. The trains look very much like Millie's trains, with the addition of the horsecollar.

Jeff, that's not an *entirely* true statement. While on a ride like "16" there may not be a benefit with OTSRs, they *do* have the advantage that they can restrain the upper body and prevent heads from hitting the seats in front of them. This was a problem on the Schwarzkopf "Thriller" so they added the OTSRs to keep the people from unitentionally "doubling over" and cracking their teeth. (of course this change had its own problems...blah, blah, blah...)

lata, jeremy

Screw the OTSR. Screw lap bars. Screw seat belts. Let's just hold on.

I did a little happy-dance when I found out that MF wasn't going to have harnesses. ...I feel another happy dance coming on...

Maybe the execs are finally understanding what we Coasterfreaks really want...the strongest inverse ratio possible of being very safe- to -not feeling safe at all.

I'd like to market two types of restraints to coaster builders:

1. Each 'seat' would simply be a locking 3'x3'x7' chain link cage for each rider. It would give a lot of freedodm of movement, allow larger riders and keep the lines short.

2. The trains would be flat platforms with a permanently mounted set of ski boots for each rider. It would even be ok if they offered a pair of solid-mounted poles for each rider to cling onto. The advantages here would be similar to those of option 1.

On the serious side, the world's best restraints so far have to be the B&M open air cars used on rides like Apollo's Chariot and Nitro. These restraints enhance those rides by a great degree. They are also in my opinion an example of those 'little things' that keep B&M just ahead of Intamin in building the best rides on the planet (generally speaking of course - MF is one exception). You can see these open air cars here:

Now if they would just build a floorless with these cars...

I agree with Mr. Halo, Appollo's Chariot gives a very "unrestrained" feeling.

How sweet would open-air cars be on #16!!!
