No, and don't call him Shirley...

I don't know why Cedar Point and all of the other Cedar Fair parks don't have a later opening date. Busch Gardens and Seaworld always say "Opening in late spring 2011" (or whatever year). That way, people don't get their hopes up for riding something that they thought would be open.

Because that's what we do here. We make assumptions that these parks "promise" to have all the rides ready when they go the smart way and DONT make those kinds of promises. :P

Looks like KI is ready to test any time now. All arms are on. Cant wait to see it in motion!

They also have water dummies in a few seats as well

I WILL ALWAYS KICK THE SKY.

Cedar fair parks need to do this:

1. Open the parks at a later date in late May or early june

2. Plan ahead- for the state of ohio especially, get everything ready before hand, for construction because the weather here is cold, snowy, rainy, etc, in this region during spring time.

But after going to KI yesterday......Gee, that ride sure has an excellent lighting package :)

With the crowds they had at Kings Island this weekend, I'm sure they won't be pushing back the opening date anytime soon.

Quoting in order from Miss Maverick:

1. They want a good sized operating season. Working from lets say the first day in June, that cuts out 15 days (how many days in May the park is open) to the general public. That's alot of days with no customers that most of the rides are ready for them, and to make money.

2. Cedar Fair was ready for the construction. However the parts to make windseeker didn't arrive until March 23rd. Plus with the weather we had this month put a huge damper on construction. You try hoisting & mounting some very large steel columns in windy/rainy conditions, it's not fun, nor safe. Here's an example. When it's 20+ wind gusts outside. Take the largest flat surface that won't bend/warp in the wind, hold it, & push. Now imagine that force you have over it's size, versus an even larger, very heavy steel column. It's not ganna happen.

Also, I posted my KI opening day trip in the trip reports deal. Here's a quote on some info I found out & put together

Also talking to the same ride op at Vortex. He said with the downtime they have until next week's weekend opening (even though today it's open for a private event), it should be ready by then, as they already have the mannequins ready to go on at a moments notice So he said it looks like construction is ready to go and the testing to begin. He also said the ride ops are anticipating finishing training come this week on their windseeker. So with that being said, when we see all the swings actually on our windseeker,(which is hard because where they don't hang swings is where the access door is on the other side facing the new entrance), it will probably open very soon after because that means construction is over & testing will begin.

Are you people seriously suggesting that CP open later in the year simply because only about 98.5% of their attractions will be open on time?

How about this instead: don't go until the new ride/attraction is open. That way, you don't have to endure the utter horror of being in an amusement park with "only" 60-some rides and attractions. The rest of us will just go and look at the possibly-unfinished ride and say, "gee, that looks like it might be fun" before we rush off to ride a world class selection of thrill rides.

If i was in charge of Cedar Point or Cedar Fair as a whole company, a ride not opening on time would not be happening on my watch without someone paying the price for it.

And that's why you'll never be in charge of anything.

Goodbye MrScott

John

DJ hit the nail on the head. My thoughts exactly

Why should CP start the season later because their new attraction MAY NOT be open on time.

It is just the COLD Weather. The Wind coming off the Lake will turn the TEMPS DOWN. The Schools are open till the end of May too.

If you don't understand how big of an impact the weather has had on everything in our region this year, you're not old enough to know any better.

Just ask my sump pump.

I agree with DJ too. If you don't want to go Opening week or anything, then don't go. But some of us have been anticipating opening day for how long and you think it should be pushed back by 2 or 3 weeks? I'm going on Opening Day

Expecting everything to be up and running 100% on opening day is like expecting a sports team to be clicking on all cylinders in the first game. It's entirely unrealistic, and is based in either ignorance of the situation, or simply naivety.

^^ AGREED. It doesn't matter when Opening Day is, not everything is going to be ready to go!

I just saw on Facebook that Wonderland's Windseeker is also delayed.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

Canada's Wonderland also posted a pic of Windseeker about a week ago with the seats installed on it and they are now announcing that it will not open on time. There must be a lot of tedious things to get done that we cannot see, leading me to believe that Cedar Point installing seats this week possibly isn't all that great of a sign of progress.

Wasn't KBF's Windseeker also pushed back? (Though I believe this may ostensibly have been related to indecision about its eventual site, and then delays in moving a ride support to make room for it, rather than anything to do with weather or manufacturer problems.)

Knotts Windseeker was delayed because of the switch in sites. Last time I paid much attention (couple weeks ago) they were still pouring the tower base.
