Johnny Rockets being replaced by arcade.

The ceiling in the lower coliseum is too low for most attraction types. I can't see it ever being anything other than retail or an arcade.

I don't think the two couldn't coexist, but why on Earth would they?

I haven't been in the old arcade in years, so I don't know what portion of the building's ~44,000 square feet (just over an acre!) was used for games. But if I recall correctly, most, if not all, of the floor space was in use.

The former JR building, even including the patio, is is barely ~5,000 square feet. So if the two arcades are to coexist, and the old one isn't being reduced in size, that suggests the park thinks the old one was too small. Again, I haven't been in there in years, but I can't recall ever being in there and thinking "man, this place is too small for all this huge throng of people". My recollection is quite the opposite, in fact. But again, I haven't been in there in a while. Is it regularly near capacity frequently enough that it makes sense to renovate JR, bring in additional games, manage the area, and still pull in a profit for what is effectively an ~11% expansion of the arcade?

Was it ever confirmed that the vintage arcade games were sold off and gone? It seems unlikely CP still has them stored somewhere, but it would be interesting if they were to make JR into to a nostalgia arcade. I'd prefer something differentiated somehow instead of just a smaller copy of the current ticket redemption heavy lineup. I'm sure they make more money off those though.

Wonder if the company currently running the arcade is still there or if their contract is also 'expired and not renewed'

So. Few years back at IAAPA there was a company showing off an updated version of Fascination that used led lights and modern tech. Would be very cool as someone who never got to see it at CP to get to experience it!

"Arcade" could mean anything as far as games go. But here we are analyzing word choices in a barely literate permit as if the Sandusky building department was in cahoots with Tony to punk a bunch of nerds on the Internets.

That's fascinating that the updated the system to modern times! I wish they would have kept the original name though, or something other than roll-a-bingo. That just doesn't sound as nice to me.

Still haven't been able to uncross these circuits...

I would imagine if CP were to use this they would find a way to use the Fascination name and word mark on their versions of the machines if they went with this option.

Article from Cleveland.com

It's a pay wall, but here's the relevant portion:

Park spokesman Tony Clark said the contract with Johnny Rockets, a 1950s-themed diner, has expired – “and we are focusing on alternative guest offerings, including an arcade.”

He added, “More details will come closer to opening.”

Interesting that Cedar Point Park LLC is a Dallas, Texas address and not Sandusky.

And a Google search identifies that that PO BOX belongs to "Property Tax Service Company".

I’m so glad they’re removing the chains from the park, now do Perkins and Fridays. The last thing I want on vacation is chain food.

We've always enjoyed Perkins for breakfast. It's a tad pricey for what it is, but has always been a winner for our family. Sometimes something familiar is welcome, especially with kids.

^Based. Jonny Rockets for our family was a CP tradition. We always had a lot of fun eating there.

That being said, it makes sense that with the opening of the new pavilion right next store that there isn't as much need for JR.

Im interested to see what exactly this new arcade will be like. It's a good location next to all of the midway games.

argues just for clicks

Since the Pavilion won't be doing burgers, there's an opportunity for Lakeside express to serve a JR bbq/onion ring copy, or other unique burger variations that Coasters doesn't have. Fingers crossed.

Do we know that GP won't have burgers? I figured given its size, it would have quite a variety of food.

Brandon

No way to be 100% sure, but cpfoodblog did a preview of the menu a while back.

I assumed that preview showed some, but not all, of the dishes they plan to offer. Like a movie trailer.

Brandon

We like hitting Perkins. Not many of them left.

Hmmmm....maybe there is a reason there are not many Perkins left.

djDaemon's avatar

Huh? There are 342 Perkins open throughout the US and Canada.
