Jeff- Kill this ad YESTERDAY!

Having a credit card that young can be a disaster. I'm thinking of those teeny-bopper girls that will charge a whole buttload of loot to their card when they go to the mall and not think twice of how much it is costing them. And people wonder why the average American credit card debt is in the tens of thousands.

The only thing credit cards are useful for when you are that young is to build some kind of line of credit so that you can get a student loan without a co-signer when you go to college.

I know girls that charge $400 dollars when they go to the mall and don't think twice of it becuase, hey, they aren't floating the bill if they can't pay it. My girlfriends parents bail her out at least once a month.

My daughter is really going to hate me if that's a common practice amongst her friends.

My first card had an $800 limit. I know some kids that have debit cards, and obviously if they don't have the money in their account, they can't make the charge.

Speaking of ads... Any chance we can move the "Featured Hotel" panel to another place on the home page? Maybe swap featured photo with featured hotel? I realize the supported site does not contain ads, but it resembles one being so close to the top and it's a little annoying, what is its purpose?

The Amazement Park

It's purpose, DemonDroppin', is to generate revenue to keep this site operational AND to offer info on places to stay near Cedar Point.

I purchase Pointbuzz Premium to avoid pop ups and have absolutley no problem with the "Featured Hotel" addition. Kinda nice to see what else is out there, besides CP resorts. The current Featured Hotel looks very nice, but I'll still stay at Lighthouse Point every chance I get.

You have a good point; I guess I'm too lazy now to scroll down to see the latest posts underneath the "CP Place" header and I too only stay onsite at a CP resort, usually The Breakers. *** Edited 3/2/2005 10:59:30 PM UTC by DemonDroppin'***

My first two cards only had a 300 limit, so I couldn't get into too much trouble. Its when you have 10 thousand dollar limits is when you can get into trouble.

If your girlfriends parents keep bailing her out, then when will she ever learn a lesson? I don't understand why parents do those kinds of things. It's always been my own butt if I can't pay it back.

I personally think the hotel ad is great. It's a lot more targeted advertising than some of the other crap I've seen on here before.

And you can get 10% off! :)

Right on! It'd be great if we could get more ads that had products that we were actually interested in purchasing, but I understand (vaguely) the way this stuff works. Of course, I'm certainly not the computer wizard in my relationship, but I definitely spend a lot of time online!

I don't know how we got on the subject of credit cards, but I'll chip in: my first card had a $1000 limit, which I prompty maxed out to buy a new computer (Pentium 150mhz!!). Hehe.

Where are the queens at?

My favorite is the time she turned to me at the movies, after buying $150 worth of clothes saying she didn't have any money to go to the movies until her parents cleared her debt. :(

If you don't have that kind of trust, you probably shouldn't get married.

I'm 14, I'll probably go through another hundred...

Oh. Makes more sense. I had you pegged as a little older by the way you conduct yourself on here. I figured you were 20/21 due to the 84 at the end of your name. :P

No, I'm that little kid 4 down from you on your picture. ;)

I like the new less annoying ads were getting.

OT, but David Brooks has a really interesting recent oped piece on this subject. I had no idea so many married couples had separate financial lives.

I have to agree with Jeff on that topic. Prenup probably isn't a very good start of a married life.

As long as I have expenses, there will be ads unless you pay the premium. I don't think you can really appreciate just how crappy ad revenue is right now. I'll take what I can get. The alternative is to have no site.

How many premium members are there? I can only imagine the monthly bill on a site like this, and if you keep treating your members like s***, people may get ticked off and leave. There goes your precious ad revenue, and the few premium members that you do have won't be able to pay the bill. Or will they? Nah, you'll get by on occasional visitors like myself, so you don't care about treating your members, even if it's someone who's been paying you since 1999, be it through ad revenue from visiting or the annual fee. You just don't give a damn, while I would expect it from your typical business, not from someone who seems to actually enjoy the content base of the site. Face it, some ads are really freakin' annoying, there are ones going around every so often that annoy the living hell out of me (like some have mentioned, the paparazzi one), and most webmasters will contact the ad company or manually turn the ad off themselves. He didn't ask for no ads, in fact, he said banners are ok, just that the sound was bothering him. I, like many people including Ride Man, don't mind the banners, but the sound drives me nuts. If you could change it (or at least request a change through the ad company's representative), I'm sure there wouldn't have been a problem, if you couldn't change it, you should just politely say so.

You just come off as an arrogant jerk sometimes, it just nags me sometimes, please be more polite.
