I've got a couple questions...

Hello everybody, I'm Jessica. I've applied to work at CP this season, and on Wednesday I'm going to the recruiting tour at BGSU for more info. I've got a couple questions, though.

1) I've got low blood sugar, and if I wake up in the middle of the night with a migraine, I have to eat quick. Does anyone think that there is any way an exception can be made, and I can reserve an apartment, so that I have a kitchen for this purpose?

2) Is it even worth it to go for an apartment? I've been reading past threads, some praise them and some condemn them completely and recommend the dorms. Which is honestly better? I don't like the idea of using a public restroom for months, the privacy of an apartment would be amazing. Or, is it honestly not that bad?

3) Ok, completely new subject...are there any jobs with uniforms that don't require shorts? I don't like the idea of shaving my legs every day for months, either (lazy, lazy me. And a brunette, so if shorts are required, I'd need that daily shave.)

4) Please, please tell me that the CP lifestyle of living is not the same as the college lifestyle. Like, not loud and smelly constantly.

And...I guess that's it. Any help?

Thank you in advance.

If you get into an apartment expect to be jammed in with 10 others. And yes it is just like college without the classes.

1) you can either get a mini fridge or head to the store that is open all night right in the middle of commons.

2) I never lived in an apartment, I had a problem with public restrooms also (im not the cleanest person in the world but I am a germaphobe to an extent) but I got over it..It really isnt that bad.

3) your going to want to wear shorts, trust me. It gets really really hot out, especially on the blacktop, you will die in pants. My facial hair grows quick, it sucks shaving everyday.

4) not as loud, security is reallly tight and if I am not mistaken they have rules against loudness there that I think go in effect at 11 pm but im not quite sure.

Anything else??

1) I would pick living in the dorms and just keeping snacks around. The apartments are just not worth it.

2) I didn't live in the apartments, but I visited them (a boys) and it was just...gross. The dorms weren't that bad and you get used to the bathrooms. At first it sucks, but you get over it.

3) I'll go ahead and answer your question for you, since not all jobs are outside. I work in an office and we can wear either pants or a skirt. I know admissions allows you to wear pants or shorts, and so does merchandise and possibly foods. I think they do anyway. I know admissions does. There are probably some more departments out there, like reservations that allows pants as well. There's more to CP than rides :-)

4) I think the CP lifestyle is what you make of it. Some people are loud and obnoxious which can get annoying, but you just have to remember that all you're there for is work and having fun so who cares if people are being loud. It's not like you have to study. It's so much fun if you remember to make it that way!

I wore pants a lot during the summer even when I was outside, only because the short shorts looked a little nerdy on me. But it does depend on where you work, if you're doing a lot of work outside most of the summer then you should wear shorts. Oh and Living at CP is nothing like college. No, it's definitely a lot worse! It might be 'a little' quieter at CP though only because people are working and sleeping most of the time.

Well, the quiet part depends on if you have a bunch of people close to you that like to blast their music after 10. I know on the second floor of the 1400 building I could walk up and down the hall almost anytime of the day or night and hear music (of course, you could hear my music during the day when I was off, but I never turned it up louder than needed if it was after 9). As for how it compares to college life, its actually kinda similar to life here on my floor (all-guys dorm, though), and the only thing that bothered me was the bathrooms at times. You eventually figure out which shower stalls almost always have really hot water, and what toilet stalls stay clean (I'm guessing girls are a little cleaner about that, though). Although I will admit that I'm kinda spoiled at college, even being a freshman, since all the dorms are A/C, and are suite setups, so I'm only sharing a restroom with 3 other guys.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

Yea I couldnt remember and I was too lazy to look it up. 2 makes sense since the park doesnt close until 11. I should have used some common sense on that one.

to note, the only people who wear pants in merch is sups...unless you're wearing your blue suit, but trust me you don't want to wear that all the time...there is a few exceptions in guidance to religious beliefs, but other than that (like not wanting to shave legs)...you'll have to wear shorts in both merch and games

to note above, also as Dani said, the office clerks are allowed to choose in merch as well. The warehouse in both games and merch do wear pants but again other than that and what I've mentioned before we're only given the choice of shorts.

I can't be the only one who thinks "not wanting to shave my legs every day" is a terrible excuse for not wanting to wear shorts.

Anyone?

its not a terrible excuse, but CP isn't gonna buy it, they have a pretty strict grooming guidelines, while not tooo bad...most don't have problems with it...it comes up often enough and if your area doesn't give a choice as a normal rule you're going to be stuck with the shorts. I wear pants, since I'm a sup, and trust me some days I'd rather have the shorts, and I don't wear shorts that often...I'm a jeans girl...or capris...so thats saying something. Its really not that bad, you'll get use to it.

Alright guys im a junior in highschool right now and plan on applying to work at CP this time next year. i was just wondering how hard is it to get a job at cedar point that doesnt involve picking up trash? preferibly ride host. and also im obviously not in college yet so when you guys say its alot like college what does that mean? also is it a lot of fun?

Keeping the park clean is part of all job descriptions. No matter where you work at the park, you will be responsible for keeping your work location clean, and picking up any trash you come upon during your travels throughout the park. In rides, ride hosts are responsible for keeping their attraction clean, and cleaning queues, platforms, etc., is a daily part of the job. There really is no escaping it if you want to work at the park.

I don't understand why shaving your legs is such a big deal. I mean, I do it everyday in the shower, year round. It takes all of 2 minutes. I don't even bother with the whole shaving cream thing. I couldn't imagine spending any day, let alone a summer day, with stubbly legs.

And think of the guys. They have no way around shaving their faces everyday.

Hi, I'm not sure about the living conditions at the employee housing, casue I only live about 6 miles from CP. I have heard they are'nt as bad as in past years. I don't like a community shower either, so an apt would be better. Noise is kept to a minimum form what I've heard, and some of my co workers told me after 2AM is quiet time, no loud noise allowed. I mean, after working a 12 hour day at the park, people should be very tired, I know I am, and when I get home I usually shower, and go to bed. All in all, you should have no big problems with the housing. Now, as far as wanting to wear pants, I had a co worker wear pants all summer, but her reason was medical, and she had a Dr's excuse. If you get them to allow you to wear pants, I recommend you work in merchandise. You can be put in an air conditioned shop, so that you won't overheat. As the people here said, it VERY hot at CP in summer, and I could'nt stand being in pants. The supervisors wear pants, and they've told me, it's really hot for them. I was a team lead last season, so we still got to wear shorts. Good luck!

how hard is it to get a job at cp? i mean there must be people from all over wanting to work there. is there anything i can put on my application that can help me?

djDaemon's avatar

Its not hard to get a job. CP even has to go overseas to recruit people, since the working conditions (housing especially) generally suck.

Brandon

well since the housing conditions suck so bad is it even a worthwhile experience to work at cedar point?
