How was your ride?

Rode GK immediately following the 4th of July fireworks. Sat in back right. The vibration was BAD, as in worse than I've ever experienced on a B&M. Really detracted from the experience...

Also, the whole lighting system still seems to be experiencing problems. Many of the train lights were out (including all but one red eye). Moreover, the flood lights on the keyholes were all out (except one that would flicker occasionally). Hope they get this soon; I imagine the ride looks awesome with everything working.

Thrills Around the Corner!

Don't know if this is the right thread to post this in, but I figured what the heck! This bugs me when I ask people what they think of Gatekeeper, and they say it's too slow. Now gathering that information, if Gatekeeper was faster, would it be pulling too many g's? Personally I think it's Great the way it is! Cedar Point spent a lot of money on this ride and I feel like it paid off!

Absolutely amazing! Easily one of the best rides!

So after 55 rides i have concluded that left side, row 7, outside seat is the worst seat (in terms of the vibrations).

Whichever train is the Zenith Gold train (the color closest to actual gold)

just got back yesterday from a couple days at Cedar Point. rode gatekeeper a number of times.

very fun ride. i think i enjoy the front row either side the most. outside seats not as much because of the jerking.

count myself and my gf as ones who are not fans of the restraints. if only there were some way that they would not tighten throughout the ride, they'd be okay. i also hate the restraints on the b&m flying coasters.

keyholes are my favorite in the front row. overall, it's an awesome ride and one of our favorites at the park. :)

Is it really that hard to create a system which would lock the restraints in position upon the train leaving the station? That would stop them from closing down further as the ride progressed. I would think if the could plan, build, and maintain a ride such as Gatekeeper they should be able to fix a problem regarding a locking system for a simple vest.

Then again, They can't even properly maintain simple lights and fog on most anything in the park. Those things really do add to the experience of the park.

What you perceive as a problem is a conscious design choice. The manufacturer doesn't want the restraint to be anywhere but as close to your body as possible.

^I can't imagine anyone's safety would be in jeopardy by allowing passengers to be able to take more than just shallow breaths in those restraints and having that assurance throughout the ride.

Went to the park Saturday 7/13. Got FastLane+ but we had some people in my group who had never been to CP and really wanted to do MF first. We ended up working from the back of the park to the front of the park, and by the time we got to Gatekeeper around 3:30 it was closed. The employee line at the ride entrance was that the ride was down for mechanical reasons, but we saw a large group of upper brass (button down shirts, ties) in roundtable discussion on the station platform. We heard whispers that someone had passed out and seeing how the line was completely cleared out we figured this to be a plausible explanation. We never confirmed the story but we left the ride to do other things, figuring it probably wasn't going to open.

After a 10:00 ride on MF I noticed a train moving up Gatekeeper's lift, so we high tailed it over there. Sure enough it was open, so we got in line and were on within 10 minutes.

Side note: The crew was absolutely FLYING. I've never seen a crew work so hard and work so efficiently. Maybe it was because the ride was closed for a good five to six hours during the day, or maybe that's just how they're doing it. But kudos to them, they were not only focused on speed but also making sure everybody on the platform was safe.

Ride Experience - the Good: This was my first wing coaster experience. I only rode this thing twice at night, in the last row and the second to last row, both in the outside seats. I loved how at the top of the lift I could see the rest of the train slowly diving off underneath me, until I was pulled along through the inversion. Very unique. The elements were top notch, great pacing through the brakes before the helix. Only complaint here is that the ride feels over after that brake run as the helix and small bunny hill aren't that exciting. Many will comment on the keyhole elements, but the large inversion after the first camelback was my favorite inversion by far. Also, the winged coaster at night was very disorienting (in a good way).

The Bad: I rode both rides in the final two rows on the left side of the train. At the bottom of every element there was a violent vibration that severely detracted from the ride experience. My group of 5 rode twice, and all of us agreed that the elements of the coaster were top notch, but the vibrations at high g-forces was enough to send us to a different coaster (all of us with headaches) after just two rides. I'm not sure if this is a wheel issue or an issue caused by the fact that the seats are supported differently than they are on a standard coaster. But when a group of seasoned coaster guys aged 20-25 all leave with headaches, something isn't quite right in my book.

Overall: Loved the layout, loved the design, loved the elements. I will ride it at least once everytime I visit the park, but because of the vibrations I'm not interested in riding it any more than twice in one day, which is a shame.

I loved it!! The seats were really comfy but the restraint hurt a little. In general it was really smooth and definitely worth riding.

According to Tony's Twitter page, they are working on the tight vest problem.
Somebody tweeted him complaining about it and he said they were working on it.

Normally I would criticise the park on the Gatekeeper train lighting but these are new trains and the LED lights should work reliably for a long time. This must be a design defect in the lighting system, these things should not need constant attention if they were designed correctly. I blame B&M for this, not CP.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Oh awesome news!

^ I'll second that! It's an awful feeling when it seems like you can't breathe.

Left row 7 outside is certainly the worst, I did that tonight. Bad vibrations.

For the restraints, I would prefer if the lapbar was the primary. Maybe Im weirdly proportioned, but the shoulder straps do all the restraining on me while the thigh restraint is just kinda there, completely opposite of Maverick

My experience on Gatekeeper at the most was O.K. I took a ride on the back left, and in my opinion the highlights of the ride were the twist on the first drop, the keyhole, and that very small hill at the end of the ride. The twist on the drop I guess sorta launched you, not in an intense way but you felt it. The keyholes were actually very fun as you were very close, this was a cool experience. Lastly, that hill at the end of the ride actually provided if not more, the same amount of airtime as that big hill close to the beginning. The airtime you could tell was supposed to be good, but the harness being sorta tight, ruined it. You felt your self going up and forward, but suddenly stopped. For some odd reason I don't know, the ride is very re-rideable(don't really know how to spell that if I spelled it wrong). Since it's kind of hard to rate it exactly, I wouldn't give it anything above a 6. It's not all it's cracked up to be. It's not a MUST RIDE either, and I would definitely not wait anything over an hour to ride it. It's a good addition to CP, but don't waste half your day in line.

Last edited by Edward Wright,

My wife and I went on for the first time last week. With Fastlane we rode it about 8 times over 2 days.

I have to say the ride looks beautiful and the area is great by the lake. As for the ride it is good and a great addition. I wouldnt call it a favorite but rides are not made for only my satisfation levels.

I tried every seat and I think the outside last row on the Left was our favorite.

I rode it yesterday and I definitely felt vibrations around my head, but only twice. I sat left side, row 3 and the outside seat-I believe. Minus the few seconds of vibrations, I thought Gatekeeper was really fun, especially at night.
