I personally hope they don't get high speed internet acccess for all the employees at CP. Think about it. The lack of it almost forces people to go outside and have human to human interaction. I don't think people would be hanging out as much, chilling infront of commons, ect. when they would just be sitting at their computer instead. Cedar Point is its own small world. Pretty much cut off from evryone outside. I kinda like it that way.

Yea, but what do most people do? They go to Louie's two or three or even more nights per week or they stand out at "Club Curb" and complain about guests or something. As far as Internet access keeping people from going outside - most of CP's workers are outside all day anyway interacting with guests and their crew. It'd be nice to get back to your room and be able to check e-mail, catch up with CNN or ESPN to know what is going on outside the peninsula, maybe talk to your family on AIM or something, pay your bills online, etc. Or on a day off when no one is around, the same thing applies. I went to the Sandusky library a few times to go online, but I had a car and could go whenever I felt like it. Others had to take the bus. Also, the library isn't open 24x7, nor is the rec center. What about getting directions for somewhere to go on your day off even. Nothing beats Mapquest or Google Maps.
Would it be used extensively by everyone like in a college setting? Probably not, but I think it would be an attractive perk for potential employees. CP could probably use this to their advantage to attract higher caliper people. Don't get me wrong, CP has lots of great workers, but there are also a lot of low lifes hanging around in Commons. It's amazing that the park runs as well as it does, looking at some of the clowns that are around that place.

I have to think that working there and being around people that a reprieve from being around anyone would be necessary at least once a week.

Ok so I am not a computer whiz, are you able to take one cable (if it cp did but them in the room) and use it on 4 different computers? Because if not, there is another problem. I know everyone says the roomies can split the bill, but will everyone be able to be on as much as they like? Personally that would suck if I help split a bill and got to be on it a few minutes a night.

Any connection can be split. Obviously a dialup modem is going to be painfully slow if you split it to 60 computers (hey I have seen it). Any number of devices can be used, but usually a router is the best choice for the non-computer "savy" crowd.
Thanks. I was just curious because everyone was saying ways it was possible to get the cable in the room, I just wondered once it was in the room how many computers could be on it. But none the less I still wouldn't pay the money... just was curious.

Yes High-speed Internet is possible, at least in the commons apartments. I lived in 902 and we had a cable connection. One of the roommates called the cable company and had them set it up; he never went through Cedar Point. So it is possible, but I had heard (mostly rumor) that people were going to Housing and *demanding* Internet, so CP called the cable company and told them to not set anyone else up. But I can say that my roommate is still there (working at breakers) and he still has high-speed Internet.

I can verify matthews statement. 902 did have cable internet and I was so jelous it ran pretty fast so the people that said that the "db drop" or whatever would be too great to have cable were wrong the internet there was real and was pretty fast.
To the validity of the marina wireless internet I knew somone over the summer that had that he got the 3 months for 140 he said it did reach the commons dorms and that it was pretty fast so that is probably what I am going to go with next year. if you split it up among 4 roommates that is 35 bucks for internet for 3 months which is roughly 11.67 per month which is 2.91 per week. that is not that bad for highspeed internet. Hell maybe Cedar point could set up a deal with them and if you are willing to pay like 5 bucks extra per week they would give you a userid and pass and you could access the internet then they could actually make money.
Also to DJA19 I dont know weather it is you or your computer but that post was unbearable to read. Remember you capitalize the first letter of every sentance, proper nouns, and a few others. but not almost every freekin word. I thought my grammar was bad but wow yours sucks bad

I just spoke with the gentleman at costalwave and he said that due to numerous requests they will be installing a second tower in the main building of the venitian marina. Most likely it will easily reach the 1500's, 1300's, 900's, and the 1000's. I'm not sure how far the signal will reach but it could possibly reach the rest of the dorms and apartments as well. Definatly bayside. The prices are on the website http://www.coastalwave.net The speeds you will get is 512 up and down, much faster than dialup and its not that expensive as I broke down the price in the previous post.

If you have a laptop with wireless capabilities just take it to the new Panera on 250, all Panera's have wireless capabilities. Order a water and check your mail, thats what I do here at home. Hell sometimes I just take my PSP or Palm Pilot and check my mail there or at a McDonalds.

Rollbacks - 1 - Opening Day 2005
Last TTD train of the night (6-23/24).
I used a 6-month Earthlink dial-up acct last season when I took online classes and kept in touch with friends on an mmorpg that I played on ps2.
One afternoon in late August last season, our phone jack needed replaced and Cedar Point's telecommunications employee came out to fix it. We chit-chatted a little bit about stuff and high-speed internet came up. He said that Cedar Point was in fact looking to replace the phone jacks with dual phone/ethernet jacks in all the Commons Dorms... which he said was hopefully for the 2006 season. He said that wireless might not be a good option since most cell phone signals in those thick bricked buildings barely can hold a phone call... would barely hold a stable wireless internet signal. He said they would have to setup access points in all the hallways and rooms to boost the signal. Said it would be a bigger headache to maintain as well.
I'm excited to come back this season to make some extra money this summer. However, I plan to take online classes again this summer and my new computer is ethernet only. Also the mmorpg I play was ported for the Xbox 360, which is ethernet only.. so I'm out of luck on that too. Still, it is going to happen. It's just when?!
That Coastalwave wireless signal someone spoke of in the thread earlier might work if the signal is very strong. Wish we knew if it worked since my computer and 360 do have wireless options.

If they do set up broadband, it probably wouldn't be much for those people who do want wireless to just set up a router in their room. At least then they aren't tied down, and possibly the people in the rooms right next to them as well.

I really doubt we'll see any type of internet aside from dial-up in the dorms for a long time, if ever. Why would CP dump so much money into that? I doubt the dorms are wired for it, and that would be pricey to do. CP also discourages bringing expensive items, IE computers, with you... so that just doesn't seem logical. When people's stuff was stolen last year, all the cops did was say 'you shouldn't bring such expensive things' Get dial-up, or be friends with a manager who has wireless internet in his apt :)
Ride Op '02-'07
I think we are reaching a point where high speed internet is like water, gas, and electricity. Its something people need anywhere they go. So CP is getting on board with it.
And maybe they are getting internet installed in all their hotels and adding to the dorms was easy.

It wouldn't be prohibitively expensive either, and the payoffs to employee hapiness (many of whom come from college campus' where they have internet in their dorms) would be obvious.
