Housing choices?

That is such valuable land on the peninsula (especially Cedars), I don't know why they don't tear down Cedars and Gold and make room for something they need more. There is still land available in the vacinity of Commons and Bayside that could be used for new housing facilities.

Then (nearly) everyone would be happy. Not only would there be some brand new rooms available, even if they cost a bit more, but Cedars and Gold are gone and Cedar Point has room for a new restaurant or two, another attraction, or other improvements.

If they moved HR off the peninsula too, they might even have enough room for a smaller hotel, although the parking situation might be less than ideal with the Marina and the hotel sharing a lot and having parking extend further south into the main parking area.

Yeah, I bought a pair of white shoes before I went down there. Generally, I've been buying white sneakers anyway.

Most positions require white sneakers. Certain positions require black sneakers or black casual shoes.

Whatever you do, make sure you buy leather and/or mesh shoes and not pleather (fake leather) shoes. Leather and mesh is porous allows your feet to 'breathe' and when you are working in 90 degree heat for 12-15 hours, your feet will thank you. Shoes made of pleather are actually a plastic/polyurethane material that is made to look like leather.

If the shoe says All Man Made Materials, it is not a shoe you want. If you don't know if the leather or not, ask a sales person. Zappos.com will also tell you if the shoe has a leather upper or not.

My pair of Asics GEL-120 TR's lasted me all season. I put a lot of miles on those shoes, and probably wore 1/8" of rubber off of the bottoms of them to the point where they were almost smooth on the bottom, but they lasted and my feet didn't hurt when I got off work.

If a person is ohhhh, lets say, from 'out of state' do they have better chance of getting an on point dorm, or is it really first come first serve?

Shoes for ride hosts must be something like 90% white. There is shoes to bye at wardrobe but I tell you do not buy them I had a roomate that did this and his feet was hurting the whole time and thay are not the best of quality.

Screamomatic - If you live farther than 25 miles away from the park, you have as much of a shot as everyone else.

Back to shoes. I bought a new pair of shoes 2 weeks before I processed in. BAD IDEA!! Make sure you have completely broken in your shoes before starting. My feet went through so much pain in my first week of working that it was unbearable. I couldn't walk straight for pretty much the first hour of my day. I got this picture after one week, when they were at their worst:

See that? No skin whatsoever. Buy your shoes months in advance.

You won't have a problem getting an on point dorm between June and September. Just remember that the on point dorms are the last to open and the first to close because they are the oldest.

Cedar Point always has space available in dorms, you might not get your first choice, but you will get a bed. You just have to live 25+ miles from the park to live there.

Top Thrill Dragster:

What the heck is that a picture of? Feet? Toes? Sausages?

If they are toes, where are the toenails? Whatever they are, they are not a pretty sight!

I think that's a lil bit of an extreme example. I bought a new pair about a month into the season and didn't have a problem. Just make sure you try your shoes on before you buy them, and that they're good quality and comfortable, and you should be fine.

My shoes are awesome. I got them specially for popping pedals at Corkscrew, they've got steel toes. Just wait till I kick you, bitches!

Hahaha :-)

As a former Housing Supervisor for Cedar Point..a word of advice....I have many fond memories of Cedars dorm, both living and working there scanning those IDs...but I would not let my dog live there. The Victorian charm was lost a LONG time ago and fallen into utter disrepair. It is a fire trap.

HOWEVER: You "must" weigh your options. Honestly...how often will you truly be staying in your room? Long enough to sleep or perhaps more? Do you have a car or the patience to wait for the next bus? Do you want to live with 6 other people? There are pros and cons to all of the housing options. Take your time, chat with employees, see if you can visit, etc. and then go from there. It "will" impact your summer experience.

As far as the rude Housing employees...yes I worked with quite a few...hehehe. They tended to be the retirees. Remember that more often than not, they were just trying to do their job the best of their ability and set in their ways. For those who may recall...I worked at the Cedars front desk ('95-'96) with my over the top co-worker Jon...and we generally created a party atmosphere and let some people in without scanning, planned themed "movie nights" in the Lounge, etc., etc....much to the dismay of Kathie Morrow- Housing Director. It was a job that I will always treasure and I miss those who passed by my desk!!

yeah 3 of my friends (2 of which are girls) and i head down on memorial day.. and given we can get an apartment/dorm together (the girls and i ) we're debating on what our first choice is... and i know we'll be agreeing to disagree on the entire choice... haha... so i'm almost half hoping that since we're coming down so late they won't have room for all of us to stick together... i wanna spend the extra money and stay in those new air conditioned dorms:)

haha. new dorms.

yeah, right.

ALL: Be sure to tell me of your Housing experiences this summer...I'd be anxious to either laugh or cry with you! Hehehehe.

Any questions? Ask me...the former Cedars Housing Supervisor ('95/'96) who also did short term gigs at Breakers/Gold/Commons.
