Which type of housing, if any, is unanimously preferred?
Is it really worth the extra $$ to have A/C over just bringing a couple of fans? Or is there something even better? What type of housing has served you best and why?
Thanks!
I lived in the Commons apartments both years that I worked there. The first summer I was engaged so I spent most of my time in Cedars. And the second season it rained a lot so the heat was never really an issue for me. However, I worked an average of 16 hours a day, 6 days a week, so I really didn't do anything but sleep and bathe there. If you are a person who really likes clean bathrooms and kitchens, the apartments are probably not the best place for you.
When looking at housing, it is best to decide if you want to be on-point or off. If you don't have a car, on-point is nice because you have easy access to work, the cafeteria, Soak City, and the beach. If you like to ride, you can just stroll into the park on your free time and ride whatever you like. You can roll out of bed ten minutes before your shift and be back in your room within minutes of the end of your shift. Cedars is very hot (I've never been in Gold) and even a window fan was not much help. But I know there are people who manage each year.
Being off-point you have easy access to the Rec Center and the employee bar. I don't suggest or promote drinking at all, no matter your age, but I had a lot of fun there dancing and hanging out. If you live off-point it is an easy 40 minute or so walk to downtown Sandusky, where there is the library, the pier, and a lot of other things. If you have a car then it won't really be an issue, go for the off-point housing.
I lived mostly in the Commons Dorms, and the A/C and heat is very nice. It was kind of annoying to have to walk all the way down the hall to get to the bathrooms, but they were usually quite clean. If you are in an apartment you are responsible for cleaning your own bathroom, and god help you if you get roommates who don't believe in cleaning up after themselves. But I thought Bayside was a LOT of fun. You also get a bit more privacy in the apartments.
Another thing to keep in mind is sometimes you may not have a choice at first. My first year I was assigned to Bayside because it was the only thing open. The next two years I was assigned to the Commons Dorms (which I wanted anyway). The on-point dorms don't open until Mid-May (unless it changed since I've been there). But you always have the option of changing your orginial room or building if a spot opens up.
Bring or buy a used air conditioner to Cedars or Gold. You'll have to pay a 1-time fee of $40 for installation (so the cold air doesn't escape from a bad installation) and $15 for power, but when you're working all those hours, you won't notice that, plus you will be able to sleep.

Are the showers in Cedar still group showers or have they installed stalls now?

theres 1 restroom downstairs that has a single shower in it, the main restroom though has those group shower things...the ones along the back walls are seperate though.

I will NEVER use the main restroom to shower. I'll always use the single-shower bathroom. If it's occupied, tough rocks; I'll wait until later.

Just remember Apartment 901 in commons is the best apartment that CP has to offer :)

I lived in common dorms last year...it was amazing to come home to a ice cold room every night. I highly recommend spending the extra money and living in commons. Cedars is garbage and why pay an extra $15 for power when it comes out to basically the same amount as commons anyways.

Is the extra $15 for power for a/c if you bring your own a weekly pay deduction or is it also a one time deal??
Also if employees come in in mid-june are bayside apartments still open, if not what is usually still open during that time?
thanks

I have to agree with that statement. Two years of fun in that apartment.

Bayside is usually full by May 1st. In the past they have reserved it for Supervisors, Castaway Bay and Security people.
Mid June usually you can find spots in commons or cedars/gold.
I do believe the $15 for power in cedars is a MONTHLY charge, only if you buy your own A/C.

There was a girl on my crew last year who lived in gold and her room already had the AC when she moved in there. They never charged her for it, and she told me that if they decided to charge her at the end, that she'd pay in pennies.

oh ok thanks
Also So lets say i lived at cedar's this season i would pay $16.80 a week and if i brought my own a/c there would be a monthly fee of $15 plus the one time installation of the a/c unit $40?? Assuming that prices don't go up.

I lived in cedars last year, its very convenient to be right there at the park, dont have to worry about fighting traffic to get in, and you can actually sleep in alittle longer but its such a run down hole..I decorated the room with posters and what not but it really is a dump. The mattresses in the room I had were all torn apart the floors are a nasty green color, you might want to get a throw rug. Just my opinion. I did like only paying 16.80 a week, and I did like the convenience of being right there at the park.
Anyway back to what I was going to say, if you live in Cedars use a window fan. You dont need an AC and you will save money in the long run.
The worst part of cedars for me was the fact that the window in my room was facing the north and my satelite radio antenna needed to be facing south so I had no XM radio during my time there :(
