According to a user on KICentral, the Sandusky airport, which is closing at the end of this year, has been sold.

At over 100 acres and situated on the lakefront between Cedar Point and the causeway, it's one of the only possible places for the park to expand. Personally, I'd like to see a destination outdoor water park on the site, as the Sandusky area is missing one. (Soak City isn't marketed or intended as a destination park)

100 acres is nowhere near enough for a waterpark, and parking.
I could see it being a resort if CF has purchased it.
That land has always had a higher/better use than an airport, regardless how much I may hate Lake Erie.
According to the Erie County auditor's property search, the airport owns 112 acres. The largest water park in the US (Water World in Colorado) is 67 acres. The remaining 45 acres could hold well over 6000 parking spaces.

Soak City is 16 acres and it's parking lot is about the same.
Or they can fill in all that water and just make CP bigger :)
I'm thinking it could be used for sporting events. I remember hearing from either Bryan or Matt that they were going to try and set up for events for sports and what not. They could make a few baseball fields, soccer, even lacrosse.
I would love them to move Soak City there, and expand it. Then use the land Soak City used to take up to expand Cedar Point. With 100 acres, they may even be able to build a waterpark that rivals Schillterbahn.
I really hate hearing this. I fly up from Cincinati and land here to go to the parks for a day....guess we'll have to land in Port Clinton and rent a car now. Was a lot nicer having the shuttle from SKY.
Yeah, it's sad the airport closed. Was always a nice little airport.
Also, for the claim of 100 acres not being big enough. I get into arguments with people about acreage all the time. Cedar Point (including all the parking, Soak City, the park, resorts, everything) sits on 264 acres (all of which have virtually been developed). Half of that would be 132 acres, and 112 is only 20 acres less. That would be one HUGE waterpark. It's more than enough room.
^Cedar Point is actually 364 acres.
Edit: Beat me to it.

Well, 1 acre off is better than 100. :-)

^ What if that 1 acre you forgot was an acre where the new coaster was going!? Then we've got a coaster over the water! :)

You sound like a lot of fun. ;)
The path you tread is narrow, and the drop is sheer and very high.

As much as I think that would be a brilliant idea which would benefit the park in the long run, I don't think that will happen. But you never know, CP may just surprise us all and announce that SC will move there. If you think about it, the land that SC currently takes up could be nicely developed into an entire new section of the park. Plus SC could be greatly expanded if it's moved to where the airport is.
