The text of that sign across from Breakers on the beach reads: "Knute Rockne: In grateful memory of the man whose standards of fair play are an immortal inspiration to the youth of America. And whose many contributions to the great sport of football will never be forgotten. He, with teammate Gus Dorias, developed the forward pass on this strip of beach at Cedar Point, where Notre Dame student employment was a long standing tradition."
Sky Slide (retired in 1991) — a huge cyan-colored fiberglass slide located just west of the Main Arcade. Guests had to sit on a burlap mat while sliding down. There were two long steep drops followed by a short dip, and the slide had 15 "lanes" for riders. Unfortunately, the adjacent first-aid station saw many treatments for slide-related friction burns.
did you know that Cedar Downs Racing Derby is 93 fee in diameter and has 64 horses total (4 in each row a total for 16 rows). This old carousel gets up to an astonishing 15mph!!
well cedar downs was once the Great American Racing Derby and was from Euclid Beach near Cleveland it was built in 1920 i red this in a book but i belive it is also on the CP web site
What's Life If You Never Get To The POINT?...see yall in line!
^^We have the same type of slide at our county fair.
Isnt Cedar Downs the fastest of its kind?
Let's Get Weird.
I believe Cedar Downs is only one of two of that kind of carousel in existence. I forget where the other one is located.

The other one is at Rye Playland. They used to travel to speeds approaching 30 miles per hour.

I for one would like to see the ride run at its original speeds. I wonder why it's been slowed down? I always felt like it was faster when I was little. Maybe it isn't me, if true it seems that it actually is slower.
smoke 'em if you got 'em

Probably because the only thing keeping you from falling off is a ride operator telling you to hold on with both hands.
Ok I have always wondered about this fact so I am going to ask.
I read on this one site that Millennium had a longer layout than what it does now. It says it was shortened while in the building process. (I guess like maverick: It didnt work so they changed it?) So does anybody know if Mille had a longer layout than what is now there?

You're just lucky they made it to the trash can. It's inevitable that "guest illnesses" happen at least once a week on a coaster.
From what I hear, maXair is notorious for it.

Yeah, we certainly had our fair share of guest illnesses. We soon realized that it was just part of the routine.

This is a weird one: The East Australian Current (EAC) on Disney's Finding Nemo looks like the Millennium Force logo...
The games department was originally run by a vendor by the name of "Western Entertainment" Cedar Point took over the operation in 1976 or 1977 I forget which, placing the department as a division of the merchandise department....Oh and the first guessing game was built in 1955 the games cost.....$0.10

This is probably stupid, but when I was a kid one of my biggest fears at CP was having the Iron Dragon fall off the track into the lagoon and being trapped in there by the shoulder restraints. Idle curiosity, is there some safety measure that would relase the bars if the train left the track?
^Up-stop wheels.

Craig, since when do up-stop wheels "release the bars if the train left the track?" :)
But, to answer your question, I don't believe, and highly doubt, there is any system that would instinctively release restraints if the train came off the track. With that being said, there appears to be a double-back-up on the trains. In this image you can see the metal that hangs over the top of the track. My guess is that this is partially there as a fail-safe, and also serves as a part of the wheel assembly. But that's just speculation.
