Well they can still build the key element thing and use that as the ticket booth while keeping he Maine Gate
That would put the ticket booth about 15' or 20' from the gate. Not sure how that wouldn't be a complete disaster.

The ticket booths will be along the right hand side of the gate.

I have thought the main gate would stay all along- it really is a nice looking main gate- it also matches the carousel.
From those of you that have seen the footers in the main gate area (its hard to tell from the photos I've seen):
Do you think that maybe we may just get two free standing "keyholes" that just happen to be positioned in front of the existing main gate?
That is what I am thinking is going to happen- and it'll probably look better. In other words- the Main Gate will stay as is, but the two keyholes will be in front of the gate and may be free standing, or may some how look attached to the existing gate. Thoughts?
^^ From every rendering and photo I've seen, both gates were always shown being removed with a brand new gate (w/2keyholes) being newly built. I still think the main ticket scanning gate will be coming done in the future, probably later than sooner though. We'll see....
I agree dj, I don't think it would look better at all. The whole point is integrating the keyholes into the new entrance. I think it would look awkward.

Well my money is on that happening... Especially after Bryan Edwards saying the Main Gate is staying.... Time will tell....
I'm sure if that's what ends up happening it'll still look good... I'm picturing something like how the castle walls in the new fantasy land match the castle, but it's not attached to the castle.
I think the quote I read was implying that he wasn't 100% sure. He can't know everything you know.

I think the structure may be staying but the facade will be changed. No reason to build a new structure when the old one is still good.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
I'm sure if that's what was decided it was because its what makes sense--- why spend the $$ to build a brand new entrance 15 feet forward... I think the idea is that the coaster flys over the main gate more than the fact that the new coaster is actually attached to the main gate
They were going to build a new entrance because the current one was so old. I just don't see how they could make the columns look good without combining them into the entrance.

I think the whole "the entrance is old" was always referring to the ticket booths which are no longer there...
I am going to miss the Ticket Booth Entrance just because it was always nice to see the new ride or achievements on the front of them. I know everything is done online now and only maybe a few of them were open on a daily basis, but it was still a nice old fashioned entrance if you know what I mean. However, I'm looking forward to seeing what they are going to do with the Main gate. That would be cool if they left that as is and just built the arches on top of what is already there.

If we've learned anything over the years, it's that you can't always trust the renderings.

One thing to consider as well is not necessarily keeping the structure of the current front gate, but the infrastructure. I'm sure all those computers and scanners have to be midly expensive, and considering that they'd have to at least rewire all of them to a new location, it seems cheaper and more logistically intelligent to keep them at their current location, at the very least.
Lets just hope that this doesn't become a Cedar Point theming hack-job with two giant keyhole towers that have absolutely nothing to do with the structure of the front gate.
I hope they keep the towers in their plan! If they keep the current main gate, I hope they build the towers because the keyhole element is one of the features that I am looking forward to when riding it :)
There is no way they will get rid of the keyhole element. That was one of the main things they were promoting with GateKeeper. Hopefully they didn't change the plans too much, as I liked how it looked in the rendering.
Is there a reason to belive that the plans are not going "as planned"?

If they weren't going to get rid of the main gate as well as the ticket booths, then why did all of the pavers between the ticket booths and the gate have to be taken out and saved? Unless not all of them were taken out, but it looks like it in the pictures I've seen so far.
Also, it wouldn't be "GateKeeper" if the ride didn't actually "guard" the gate. Either way, I'm not even going to be mad about what the official plans are for the ride. It's gonna be an awesome ride and we're finally getting another coaster :)
