Focus of 2017?

There are two reasons why I believe CP will get a new coaster in 2017.

1) Back in March 2015, Tony Clark tweeted a photo that says:
"Something serious is going on behind me. 2016? 2017? 2020?"
See for yourself here:... https://twitter.com/TonyClarkCP/status/575333355111186432

So far, we've got CP's 18th coaster in 2016. Potentially, we could see the 19th coaster in 2017 :), which leads to my second reason.

2) It seems like CP is shooting for adding their 20th coaster in 2020. I could see CP having a two year break from coasters after 2017. I don't know. Yet, I'm confident that Tony's picture with that caption is significant.

Could it be an AquaTrax for 2017?
Here's why I believe this.

1) On 1/15/2016, Tony tweeted this. "In a big meeting right now. And we're looking at important things. We're doing important things. topsecret "
https://twitter.com/TonyClarkCP/status/688061676919386112

If you scroll down to Twitter User Jim G., he said he could zoom in to the uncovered post-it note in the picture. Jim G. says it's an AquaTrax for 2017. I don't know what kind of zoom power he has, but if he's being honest, then woo hoo!

2) An older clue for me comes from 12/8/2014. Jason McClure tweeted "Great Frontier Trail Meeting this morning. More FUN stuff ahead." https://twitter.com/jasonmcclurecp/status/541976380078968833

This may be from long ago, but remember, parks plan for future attractions very early. Frontier Trail doesn't have a roller coaster. BUT, FT has Shoot The Rapids, a ride that I think has been hurting in popularity since the 2013 accident. Maybe that's just me? But I've only ridden it once, and I didn't care for STR. Because CP would probably wish to keep three water rides, could CP have already been planned what they'll do with STR? Turn it into an AquaTrax?

I think judging by Jim G's original post and response to your question its pretty obvious he's being sarcastic... If you're unaware, the whole Aquatrax thing has become a bit of a joke for Tony and the gang. Same thing with the Lemon Chill Guy. And I don't think that Shoot The Rapids is any less popular after the 2013 incident. None of us have actual ridership data to go off of, but considering the original investment of 10.5 million dollars only five years ago, scrapping the entire ride just to build another water ride with (relatively) similar characteristics doesn't sound like a reasonable investment. Also, the park has clearly turned away from Intamin as a legitimate source of new rides, along with the majority of parks in the U.S. If you're looking for a water ride to be removed, Thunder Canyon/SRF might be a better guess. Though I'm not sure I see that happening yet either. Regardless, Tony's tweets are usually a very unreliable source for clues.

^^ Yes, I witnessed such a screen on the beach in 2015. I don't recall the specific film being presented. But it went well with the other beach activities.

I personally do not stay late enough to know if this if being done, but if it is maybe l'll make the effort to stay later.

^^In reply to the previous post, yes don't take very many of the parks tweets too seriously. Most are done in jest to get the enthusiast crowd worked up.

Yes, they do show movies on the beach all summer long.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

I can promise you popularity has not been hurting since 2013.

Are you suggesting this in a non-sarcastic way?

They did have the giant inflatable screen up when we were there a few times this summer. I remember they had School of Rock playing one time.

I believe this is very possible but I have no idea if a coaster will come next year. All they really have to do to get to 20 in 2020 would be a dark ride with a coaster portion and another coaster in 2020. It really isn't as crazy of an idea as some might think. 20 in 2020 would be a great marketing ploy.

I have been unaware that the AquaTrax has been a joke. My apologies. Yet, with Tony's Twitter post last year, I can definitely think 2017 will be a coaster. I'd love to see a new one in 2017 and 2020 :)

Knew I had a pic of this somewhere, LOL!

^^ Nice! Like I said I rarely stay at the park late due to work and a long drive back to Cleveland.

The easiest way to get to "20 by 2020" as if this is a goal, would simply be to add a small kiddie coaster. Maybe to Planet Snoopy or Kiddie Kingdom as the only kiddie coasters are in the back of the park. But that wouldn't make enthusiasts happy, going the cheap route with another attraction for small kids and families. ;)

A good option for a inexpensive (comparatively speaking) coaster would be a Wild Mouse style coaster. A custom designed one could fit into a very small footprint, and it could be very popular with families if they get a model with a 42 in height restriction. Hopefully if they go this route, they will get a model that they are comfortable running without seat belts. (I know we are talking Cedar Fair, but they did break the trend with Wonder Mountain's Guardian.)

jscll, I like the idea of a Wild Mouse style coaster as well. If I am not mistaken didn't they have something like that back in the early 1970's in the area of Iron Dragon or thereabout? Also I miss Wildcat as I could use another medium thrill coaster to take my son on.

I'd like to see something like El Loco at the Adventure Dome in Las Vegas. Small footprint and one hell of a ride.

They had a wooden Wild Mouse called Scamper located approximately where Matterhorn is now.

If they want to put something family related in, why don't they go with something like Ricochet at Kings Dominion? I bet families would love that at Cedar Point.

What I would kind of like to see is a Vekoma Family Boomerang. Those don't look too bad, and can be made into pretty good rides with theming. (Which can be hard, because, well, Cedar Fair)

CP Top 5: 1) Steel Vengeance 2) Maverick 3) Magnum 4) Raptor 5) Millennium

Vekoma Boomerang at Cedar Point?
