It should be "t h r i l l n e t w o r k" (remove the spaces)
One quote from the article sums it up:
The removal of these two high-profile attractions is one of many changes currently underway at Geauga Lake to swap its thrillride laden reputation into a more intimate regional family-entertainment park.

I predict they'll clean up all the hurricane hannah stuff and build a new midway along the length of Big Dipper to the lake. So to cross the lake you can walk along a boardwalk by the lake instead of cutting through kid's area. Eventually they'll put something there, but for now frisbee golf! To be more family friendly, just keep it open as a grassy area to picnic.
BD is situated some distance from the lakeside, and its length isn't even close to perpendicular to to the lake, so...uh, no.

Not to be contrary, but that's what i do i guess, but the Dig Dipper ends up only 120 feet from the waters edge. Perhaps that's what decil was thinking about?
Is it really that close? Wow. It seems like a good bit farther off to me. Now I want to go the park and pace it off. Think they'd mind?

Check this site out. There's a handy measuring tool. You'll have to zoom into the bottom left (southwest) portion of the county. When you get it centered on the lake hit the 'color orthos 2006' box and you'll get a nice pic of the lake. The ortho option won't be there until you zoom in far enough.
Gotta love GIS.

That's truly amazing. You know, it's only my opinion, but I think this Internet thing is getting ready to take off. ;)
With the metric tool, you can see that the closest distance from Big Dipper to the lakeside is more than 250 feet. So I feel somewhat vindicated.
Nice find, gener.

Try toggling between the 2 ortho boxes and see the same area pre-xflight then last year. I think the earlier one is the year six flags put in 5 roller coasters
Well they put 4 in on 2000, then the 5th was in 2001.

The previous color orthos are definately from winter of 2000. Actually it was probably spring, around March or April. That is the best time to fly ariels, that or late fall. But generally i would guess that most of them are run in the spring when the government offices still have a full budget. The really cool thing that Cuyahgoa has finally gotten around to jumping into the 21st century this past year. Ahh 2000, that was the best season... Hey can you find the old rocket ships? The tower is easy to spot in the 2000 orthos. It was blue, and the rockets are in the woods next to the tower.
I'm not sure that i'm following you Ensign, the closest part of the BD is less than 100 ft from the lake. Measure from the turn around to the old dock across the midway.
This whole thing with Geauga Lake really is annoying me. I prefer Cedar point but since GL is half the distance for me, my son and I like to go there for a short day trip. It is fun to go to the park for 5-6 hours and still be home at a reasonable time once we are tired. I can see them removing one coaster, but two? Give me a break! They can't clean up the park without removing coasters that people enjoy?
^^ I always thought Ariel was more of a swimmer than a flyer. ;)

I doubt they'll leave that area completely empty just for grass. Hopefully they clear all that out and maybe add a new coaster. I'm not saying add one in 2008, maybe 2009. Maybe they could move Head Spin down towards where the old slides used to be and make something really neat where Steel venom used to be and have it kind of go along the edge. I think could probably make another woodie or something.
A Small to Medium GCI would fit with the Family atmosphere they are trying to recreate.
