Regarding EMPLOYEE Events...Don't they have any dances anymore?

Every Thursday a regional band came in and there was an employee only dance in the Ballroom...The "hot bands" of the day would come to the park and set up EARLY...Usually around noon and then roam the park until the dance. A few names which I am SURE most of you have NEVER heard of before included, Wild Horses (does anyone know Wild Horses big(?) hit song?--I'll post the answer later today), Fayreweather, The Rize Band.

ESO (at the time which I believe is ESD today) would actually go to the clubs in Cleveland (The Agora) and Toledo in March hear the groups and book em for the summer.

The Bands loved the exposure because it led to some college appearances for most of them.

One "rumor" which could never be confirmed was MSB (Michael Stanley Band--whom is probably the hottest band to come out of Cleveland...They had a HUGE following in Cleveland setting attendance records at all venues...outdrawing Bruse Springsteen etal, but as soon as MSB left the Cleveland Market...NOTHING). Anyhow, the rumor was MSB wanted to play one of these dances for two reasons...One: a Dress Rehearsal for their annual three day concert at Blossom in Cleveland, and Two, the exposure to all the diiferent college kids from the region. Anyhow, the word was CP didn't want to have to worry about the security problems MSB could generate.

One of my friends ran the ESO activites for a number of years. It ws a lot different back in the days of old. We had intramural tournaments weekly, and all season. The Volleyball was quite competitive and was always the highlight of the summer. Anyhow, with the different park hours now I know it is harder to run after hour activities for the summer help.

Also, there was a "Rec Center" (located where Breakers East is now) where we could meet for a beer (Yep CP sold us beer a a reasonable price once the park closed), it had a short order grill, and they even added a pizza grill. This served as the main launching point for all evening activites. It didn't matter if it was a night out with your crew or an actual ESO event, we just would meet at the Rec and go from there.

I guess I rambled enough...Thanks;) for making me feel even older, I really need that on a Monday.

See you on the Midway,

OTT

Nope.. no dances.. you're old.. ;)

I rememeber Three Dog Night "Joy to the World" Black & White","Mama Told me Not to come" are just some of their biggest hits. "Joy To the World" was the number one song of 1971! "Out in the Country" was my favorite 3DN song even though it wasn't one of their biggest hits.

I think CP did try having concerts in 1998 back by the former location of the Giant Wheel. Not well known bands but acts like a Beatles tribute ban though was actually pretty good. ESD did have a couple of comedians come for a show in 1993. You had to pay for a ticket but it was fairly cheap. The were real well known but they had appearred in comedy clubs all over.

Speaking of the Beatles, today is the 40th anniversary of their historic appearence on Ed Sullivan that changed pop music forever.

Hey im not that old and I know about three dog night... Those are all great songs... Does no one know about them?

Hey, about comedians... Are any planned to come, or are there going to be any bands? I understand how we could NOT have the music because of setup/noise/people/attention/whatever, but is there any way this can work without causing a fuss?

why not rent out caesar's crystal palace for a band..just an idea...do you know anything about that rob...you seem to know alot of stuff..what about cp idol?? wasnt that in the ballroom? im sure that required some setup...they setup a dance and a dj by bluestreak for calypso bash dont they? isnt there a dj for bigbash?? those are all pretty loud events..how abou this one..the gemini midway...gemini ride night, free fries and pop at happy friar?? isnt that the one by gemini..and a band right there on the midway...that midway is one of the 1st to clear out and the easiest..what if it was and employee band even..i know there are employees that are either in a band or know people who are...remember, unless you are on the esd crew and know an actual answer to this dont waste your time replying back...but if you agree with me you can...it never hurts to ask about all those things..the worst esd can say is no..but even in asking it could give them ideas about other things they can do..everyone is always so negative and so quick to shoot each other down..nobody will get anywhere in this world if they dont speak up or ask..

Ah, I actually remember the question I was going to post when I clicked on this the first time: How would I go about getting an employee DDR tourney set up? From my DDR post we seem to have the interest, and each of us (I think) would be willing to teach and explain the game to anyone else... In case you are wondering, DDR is Dance Dance Revolution, a game where you use your feet as the controls, hitting four little arrows when the arrow comes to the top onscreen... I keep hearing about CP idol, and this could be an option for those of us who dont sing too well...

Just an idea

The CP Idol setup was actually pretty easy as their is an exsisting sound system in the ballroom. It was a 5 min setup.

I personally would love to see it again this year.

The thing people are forgetting here is it's a budget thing. Yes there is a DJ for Big Bash and Calypso Bash but other than those, can you think if any major ESD thing where you DON'T have to pay into it for tickets or transportation?

The chances of having a DDR night are slim to none. The reason that skeeball night was held in the annex arcade last year was that management did not want employees running around the col arcade after we closed it (and it is a process), not to mention the redemption center can't be secured. skeeball night would have made more sense in the main (more lanes available) but there were a few silver tags dead set against it. Being that the main has the only 2 DDR machines, well. I wonder if there will be skeeball night at jitney this year

Games/Arcades Maintenance 2003-2004

I can understand that.... What if a bunch of us used home versions and pads at a place everyone can get to, like a break room or something? All we would need would be a TV and room for two mats...

------------------
2004: Snake River Falls (First Year)

There are no tv's in the break area's because the break area's are all outdoors. You may be able to do it at the rec center. It's over at the Commons housing area off point.

You could prob. fit a band in front of wicked twister, you remember wicked twister ride night?

'04 ATL Turnpike Cars!

Couldn't a band set up in/in front of the hollowed out arcade that once held the Pirate Ride? That's where they have the Calypso Bash, and the could would have to travel quite a way to reach any of the hotels. They could just replace the equipment they usually have there with a live act and still have Calypso and Blue Streak running (at night with full trains Blue Streak is freaking awesome! btw), or they could just make it a whole separate event.

As for the DDR tourney, I would totally be up for that, even though I would have chance of winning,

you guys are forgetting something... and obviously, if you know how things REALLY work there...

budget... or lack thereof

The 'Budget Monster' -- Grrr...

There isn't really a hollowed-out arcade. the old Pirate Ride is the Park Services warehouse. But I agree that they need to do something with the old PR load/unload station.

A DDR tournament with PS1s/PS2s in the Rec Center sounds intersting. But the likelihood of ESD doing a "pitch-in" type event is doubtful as well. ESD would want to use CP-owned equiment for a variety of reasons, including liability & wanting to ensure that it will be there & in working order.

P.S. -- I miss the Pirate Ride! (& the Pirate Ride/Calypso Girls!...)

getting a concert or something, although expensive does sound cool, and something that I definitly would attend. They need something better then some of the stuff they have now, like bingo, and piddly crap. ESD is now mostly just trips to other places, although cool, they need more stuff to do at night like, movies on the Laser Show screen, those are cool. Maybe bring back the bay cruises, now that they offer that trip for the guests on the Bay, maybe one for the employees too. Or maybe a big bon fire type party out on the beach by Wicked Twister. Those are just my suggestions/thoughts.
