Security would be a pain (take it from someone who's worked enough concerts large and small to know).
There simply isn't a venue to use and the beach is out of the question due to the noise it would generate towards the hotel.
Look at what a pain the movies on the screen are. At least an hour after the park is close. Environmental services had to block off the whole area, and the CP Police have to sweep the whole area of guests.
And I know alot of people are going to say "Remember the employee beach???". It's gone.. You can't have a concert on the beach in front of Wicked Twister and expect to keep the puclib out.

I think ESD has enough events and its cool to go on the trips they have set up.

As for the Laser Midway.. obviously you've never had to set up a show. Do the math..
Laser show at 10.. over around 10:30.. Clear the park. ok.. so now you can setup right??
Setup for a show is a multi hour affair.. Even a smaller one... I'm working the Three Dog Night (most of you youngins have never heard of them) show this Friday at the State Theater.. call time for load-in and setup is at 9am, for a 7:30 PM show..

I have always thought that the midway infront of the Laser Screen would be a great place for a show. But RGR is right though about set up time. Unless you had the show in May before the Summer Spectacular starts, and had a small enough band that didn't require a lot of set up time, then maybe you might be able to pull it off. But even then, it would still require a lot of planing for ESD, which is not a big department. To much to do for to few of people. And what if the band canceled?

In fact, they used to have bands play there a long time ago, so it is not like the place couldnt handle it.

They could set up starting at 9 and set up should be done by 11:00 an hour after park closing plenty of time
You have obviously never set up even a small club gig.
As for the ballroom.. actually there are alot of events up there that even most employee's don't know about. It's rented out alot of times by large groups for things such as bingo and speeches and other events. Sometimes these events are not planned till a week or two before they happen. ESD needs to have a month of notice to pull things off usually. Not just to organize but, as proven in the past, ESD events put together at the last moment and not advertised on the monthly ESD listing tend to suffer.

State the obvious smart guy. The idea for the Ballroom is a great idea. You wouldn't have the noise factor nor the public issue.

When I worked at a rock club in Toledo for several years, bands (local and national) would get there between noon and 3pm for a 10pm start time.
