EDIT: Apparently the post above this was removed.

Sorry... I am all about self expression, but cutting doesn't qualify as that for me... It does not seem right that anybody would cut into their own body causing physical harm to simply get an "adrenaline rush." There is always a deeper reason. I have had several friends that have struggled with this, and when they have gotten past it, they have realized how much harm cutting really did cause... both emotionally and physically. And that their reasoning behind it was not as simple as they thought in the moment.

I know you will probably get angry at me, and say I have no idea what I'm talking about. And to be honest, I have never done it myself, so I can't say I do fully understand it. If you choose to do this to yourself, I can't stop you, and it's not my job to judge what is wrong and right, but it bothers me that you post that on this board where other young people may see what you have written and use that to justify their actions.

!'m an old fart,so probably my opinion won't matter to most here, but I have nothing against tattoos or earing's.Scarring and body piercings, especially excessive, give me the creeps.Just an opinion of your grandpas generation.

This thread really pissed me off!
People are ridiculous. I've got to say that 99.9% of heavily pierced, tattooed, or scared people are the nicest most caring people you could ever meet. People are so damn closed minded!

My ears are stretched to 1". I have visible tattoo's in a decent amount of places. People judge me all the time before getting to know me. I'm a manger at Hot Topic, and I love when Mom's and Grandma's come in and actually talk to me and realize how nice I really am. We get compliments all the time about how we are the nicest people in the mall, and always give the best customer service. That's because we actually care about other people, and not just ourselves and what other people think of us.

I've got something for everyone who is against body modification.
All of my tattoo's except for 1 have something to do with being Straight Edge. My wrist says Drug Free, my back says Poison Free, I have 3 big X's down my leg which mean Straight Edge, I have a Roller Coaster tattoo on my arm with a banner that says True Love, along with some other's. WHOA! watch out... I'm a terrible person! I have never even touched any alcohol, liquor, cigarette, drug, or any other mind altering substance in my life. I am 27 years old. Most people judging me because of my ears or tattoo's are standing there smoking cigarettes or drinking beer and not only f***ing up their body, but f***ing up the bodies of people around them!
How about let's judge those people. The people that actually affect the rest of the world. People look at me and treat me like I'm an outcast. I guess I kind of am, because I am actually nice to people and get to know them before I judge them, instead of basing everything on how they look.

I know people who pierce, tattoo, and do scarification/implants and I've got to say, they are seriously some of the nicest people that I have ever met. People just assume you are some **** ball because you have or do tattoos/piercings. I've also got to say that these people make a TON of money. I know someone who tattooed a brain surgeon and gave him a full body suit (tattoo that covers his whole body). The guy is a brain surgeon and probably saves peoples lives everyday... man what a horrible guy huh? He would also tip my friend $1,000 each time he tattooed him. That's insane! Thats guy must have been a jerk huh?

I'm done with this. I don't even know what I'm typing anymore. I'm seriously upset with this.I just wish I could argure this in person. I thought coaster enthusiast would be more open minded, seeing as how people make fun of us all the time for just traveling around to ride coasters.

I didn't read through this whole thread to see if you were specifically arguing against my post, but just to clarify. I have no problem with tatooing, piercing, etc... A majority of my friends express themselves through these means and I think its awesome. I think it's great for people to express themselves with body art.

However, cutting is a different topic for me. Wanting to have art on your body is one thing. Cutting yourself to simply feel a rush is another... I just question the intentions.

I wasn't arguing against anyone specific.

Cutting is not for me either, but I'm not going to judge someone because they do it to themselves, either for art, or self mutilation.

If you're a good person, you're a good person... no matter what you look like.

Ride On Mr. Scott!

Well back from a fresh weekend at Cedar Point, The many tattoo's I saw were no problem to me. If we're gonna argue about dress code. My biggest complaint was seeing guys running around with their shorts down to there ankles and there underwear displayed for all to see. Thank god I did see one CP security guard enforce the dress code and make him pull his shorts back up.

I didnt know that having tattoos were against dress code. Or is it only offensive tatoos? I have three tattoos one is not offensive at all but I have 2 other ones that could be but contain no curse words or anything.

Ride on, MrScott!

I always go in the summer and wear tank tops or sleevless shirts and I have never had any problems in the past.

If a tattoo does not have any nudity, offensive language, or gang related stuff then I guess it is okay then correct?

Thanks

Since this is in the Employee Lounge it was originally to discuss Employee Dress Code which does not allow Tattoos to be displayed.... period. As far as the general public goes, as long as its not blatantly vulgar, no one should hassle you.

Thanks!! I just realized that I was in the employees lounge---Sorry about that!!

If you're a good person, you're a good person... no matter what you look like.

Just because someone chooses to mutilate themselves it doesn't mean that they are "good" either.I see no connection between self mutilation and morality.I simply find it weird. Its their right to do it and it's my right to be creep-ed out with it.I am specifically speaking of -eyebrow piercings, lip piercings, nose piercings ,nipple piercings as well as any excessive scaring.Tattooing often is attractive, although I never had any.

I dont judge anyone and I listen to some crazy music and had friends that have cut themselves. And to just speak of them personally they were doing it for attention.

I knew one person that was addicted to it and cut themselves all over just because they loved the way it looked. These friends of mine were good people also.

STR8FXXXINEDGE's avatar

I never said it means they're "good".
Yes, you can be creeped out by it. You have a right to your own opinion, but it doesn't mean that people need to assume they are a bad person. Maybe they could be a bad person, but without knowing them, you can't assume that.

I meant that people should actually get to know people before judging them.

For instance... there could be a serial killer who molest's kids who is the biggest jerk ever walking around all clean cut with a suit on and people would treat him wonderfully because they don't know him but they think he looks nice.

But someone with some scarification and piercings could be walking around with shorts and a t-shirt on who could be the nicest person ever and maybe he is a brain surgeon, or maybe he works with kids that are molested by the guy in the suit to help make their lives better for all you know, yet he would get treated like crap and be judged as a freak and a bad person.

it just doesn't make sense.

this thread has been resurrected! ahh! ^ I like your thinking :D

"Mean Streak crew 2004"

I didn't realize right away that this was under the employee lounge section, either, but I'm going to post anyway because this turned out to be an interesting thread. I almost feel like I learned something here, especially since I'd never heard the term "scarification" before.

The way I see it, it comes down to elementary principles: Treat others the way you want to be treated, for one. And if you don't like something or someone, turn the other cheek.

Do I like the idea of seeing people intentionally scar themselves? No. Do I think it's right? No. Does it really matter? No! I may not like it anymore than some of the other bothersome trends (i.e. way saggy pants, vulgar phrases on shirts, the occasional individual in too-tight spandex *yow*), but the way I see it, I'm at CP to have a good time. As long as I can ride my coasters (and other rides), be in the presence of friends and fam and feel safe, that's all that matters!

Sooooo; i have 3 microdermal pericings on mye chest, but with a shirt let alone its not visable, will they still make me take them out? they cost alot of money and really dont want to remove themm.. :/

<3

I dont know if anyone ever answered the question but in the grooming guidelines i received it does say that intentional body scarring is against the rules

if your shirt covers them then it should be fine
