I'm not on here signed in very often, but after reading some of the recent topics, some of you need to go out and enjoy what you have. What did you do when Kennywood built the Steel Phantom that beat the Magnum's drop the year after the Magnum opened? It still hasn't changed the views of Magnum. It's still a great coaster, and so was the Steel Phantom (now at UPMC Sportsworks, North Shore)***
What is there to care about records and awards and 'whoo ha's? Just be glad you live near a great coaster. I'm glad to live near a park with 5 decent coasters, not to mention work there. Think about the people living in horrible countries that cannot have access to an amusement park, then think about yourself and what you are able to do...
Well, I'm done ranting; time for me to go back to lurking.
***You can go experience the original Steel Phantom via simulator at UPMC Sportworks near the Carnegie Science Center. It's decent enough just to enjoy. *** Edited 3/11/2005 4:35:41 AM UTC by DJTheC***
This thread is confusing there's too many seperate topics.
About Traffic:
Oddly enough I don't remember CP causing large traffic jams in the city. They have traffic routed pretty well through express lanes avoiding the heart of the city. Sometimes traffic got backed up just getting to the park, but you could still get to the mall or downtown easily.
About Kinga Ka's restraints:
It is possible that Six Flags wants people to feel secure especially after the 2 accidents with the T-Bars. That's my guess anyways. Besides it is not worth arguing over a roller coaster ride.
Here in Indiana I live within 4 hours of Cedar Point, Kings Island, Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, Indiana Beach (one of the the most endearing parks around) and Holiday World. You don't find many people even arguing about the different rides at each park when they break each other's records. You just go and have fun.

but just because it is the FIRST coaster of it's kind, and is THE coaster that totally changed the world and had the biggest effect on people.
No it isn't. Xcelerator is...
Change the world? Biggest effect on people? It's a roller coaster for crying out loud. I guess you think it should win the Nobel Peace Prize too, eh?
Not really. They had been making LIM and other launch coasters well before Dragster.
And they're still making 'conventional lift' coasters.
Besides, I still think the original is better. :) (The original being Xcelerator, which I get to ride in the morning tomorrow)

Just thought I'd tell you guys about my trip to SFGA. I went on a trip up the east coast and one of my stops was SFGA. By plan, I made this my first stop of the day on Sunday May 29th. I was the first one in the park. And if I were in better shape, I might have been the first one to Kingda Ka as well. For those of you who don't know, they have 4 loading stations. I was first in line for the front seat of the 4th car. However, 2 employee's had first dibs at the front 2 seats, so i was on the 2nd run of the 4th car. It was about a 10 minute wait. I disliked the over the shoulder straps. Though they were not as cumbersome as your typical over the shoulder. The second hill they have didn't impress me as much as I thought it would. I didn't get as much airtime as i thought i would. The one thing of note that I kinda liked was, that without the "light tree" the launch was a bit more of a suprise, though you still basicly knew when they were going to launch with the dropping of the friction breaks. Based on what I heard from local season pass holders, they are having just as much down time as TTD. The ride was down nearly all day the day before I arived. Over all, I liked it. I'll be interested to see the new wooden coaster they are building there.
Lastly, by the time I got off the ride, the queue line was full and the line was outside the queue by several hundred feet. Likely a 3-4 hour wait, and the park had just opened.

Speaking about wait times I just looked at Six Flag's website and noticed a different policy being used than the one at CP.
Cedar Point keeps the queue open till posted closing times(please correct me if I am wrong). However per the website they seem to have a different policy---(*Due to its popularity and extensive wait times, Kingda Ka's queue line may close up to 2 hours prior to posted park closing time.)
Now I dont know for sure If Cedar Point ever implemented this policy or one similiar to this but I thought I would point it out and see what people thought of it(and I am not bashing Six Flags for it).
I'm glad you guys mentioned that. I've already visdited SFMM once and didn't get to ride X because it was down for maintenance. I't not a easy trip to CA from Claveland. I plan to visit again probably in a year and would have been super pissed if i missed riding it because i saved it for last.
