I am only a 1/2 hr away from CP, and it is the BEST PARK for me!!!. Disney in and all the Parks in Florida are to far down, and they don't have any Coasters. Those are Family Parks. I will stay at Cedar Point all my Life.

Apparently we're talking about different parks in Florida.

BGE is far and away a better park than Cedar Point in almost every way. The food there is outstanding, they have amazing rides (I haven't been on Griffon yet) and the atmosphere there is stunning.
And I still don't get this nonsense that you can't compare CP to WDW. Why not? It seems to me that if the park itself did that a little more, they'd be much better off for it in terms of setting a bar to reach for.

Well, I think you can't compare the two in terms of theming/amusement, in those regards they are after two different audiences.
However, you can make the comparison for food and value and Cedar Point is losing that battle.

Wait, you're telling me that families and families are different audiences?

I think so. Realistically, it's going to be tough for CP to maintain that title every year. I think both of the Busch Gardens parks can challenge in their cleanliness and quality of rides. Cedar Point has to continue to maintain it's quality, while improving at the same time. One thing, among many, CP really has going for it is the Lake Erie. That's why I was disappointed when Wicked Twister was built instead of a boardwalk project. Between that and Disaster Transport, a tremendous asset is blocked. My point is use the lake to add to the atmosphere and charm of the park, and that is an instant way to improve the quality WITHIN the park.
In that case Jeff, you're right they are after the same audience. I just see it as the target for each park is different. At CP, its thrills, whereas at Disney it is the total immersion. Maybe its because they've been doing it this way for so long that I see it as their goal, when in fact they should be changing to make it a total experience.

Maybe a little more immersion would be a good thing for CP. I don't think they could ever truly get to where Disney is, but I would love to see the park take a year off from building rides and spend a few million dollars simply adding and improving theming, both at the individual ride level and park-wide. Throw in three or four dark rides of the caliber of Ghostwood Estates at Kennywood, and I think you would have a park with a much improved customer experience.

Can't argue with you on that Josh. Could spend a whole week just at EPCOT and still not do and see everything.

^ I'm with both of you on that. :) And in response to this topic...yes I do believe CP will soon be passed up in the running for this award if it keeps with what it has and does not try to become more family oriented in the near future.

Hit the nail on the head. BGE's food and entertainment are leaps and bounds better than CP. The quality of rides, proportionate to CP's quantity, is much better. It's also a cleaner park with amazing landscaping and scenery.
I would also put Holiday World above CP because of their cleanliness and friendliness, as well as the #2 ranked water park in the world which is included with the price of admission. And their wooden coasters make every woodie at CP look like a kiddie ride.
CP is probably my #3 park.
Love Cp for teen and adult target audience as best park.Love Disney world for a Family of all ages best theme park or should we say parks?I have heard recently for the for families with a mix small children, tweens, teens and adults HolidayWorld is giving the market a good run for there money. This summer will be our first trip, if lay offs don't happen, to holidayworld.
Shoot the rapids, tame and dry. Thunder Canyon, wet and laughter. Snake River Falls, soaked and smiling. White Water Landing and the old shoot the rapids, Fun and missed.
As for the ratings, yes, CP is #1, but they also have ratings in that program that CP isn't even mentioned like you all have stated earlier, things like "who has best food, live shows, cleanest park, nicest staff, best wooden coaster ;), etc". There are a lot of categories that CP can't compare to at this time.
CP always wins #1 park, and I see why. CP has everything you need in an amusement park, it may not be "the best" overall in some of your opinions, but it does what it needs to do (and millions visit every year so I don't think they mind too terribly either). If people decide not to come back to CP, fine, less people ahead of me in line ;)
I have been to other parks, and for being a coaster enthusiat, CP has everything for anyone coaster-wise, where some parks don't (Disney doesn't seem to have anything remotely "big-kid" thrilling in my opinion).
Based on my opinion, it is a well deserved award to CP and I hope they keep it, besides, what else can keep Sandusky Ohio on the map? ;) Well, other than "Tommy Boy...." ;)
Cedar Point, Americas rip- rockin', high flyin', sky defyin', record breakin' roller coast
Well Seeing all of your opinions im going to input mine.
As of now CP will always be number one in my book. But that could change in the future depending on how many parks i visit. Im hoping as i get older ill be able to visit most of the big named parks in USA.
BUT i think that most people will always rank CP number one no matter if CP gets that award or not.

The Better!
When I first came to Point Buzz years ago (then Guide to the Point), I was relieved that I was not alone in my obsession for Cedar Point. Now as time has passed, sometimes I feel like I am one of the few that is left.
I understand that other parks may have more to offer when it comes to food and entertainment. I could care less about that. Although my top reason for visiting CP is the coasters, I am just as happy there when I am not riding them.
The whole experience of being at the Point makes me a happy person. Seeing and listening to the roars and clank clanks of the coasters. Walking the midway and smelling the food. Even Disastor Transport has a big spot in my heart, because for me it is a Cedar Point staple. I have never felt that way about another park before.
Granted I have not been to a lot of parks yet in my life time. I also only make it to CP once, maybe twice a year. These probably play big factors in why Cedar Point is still #1 to me. But in all honesty, I hope that never changes.
The night before I go to Cedar Point I am so excited I can barely sleep. When we went to Disney World and Universal I didn't feel the same way. And while we did have a good time, I still would have rather been at Cedar Point.
Even when we were done with Universal and Disney, I was ready to go home. I never feel that way about Cedar Point. And for weeks on end after my trip to CP, my obsession grows more. Everything reminds me of it, and I cannot wait to get back.
Let's hope I never grow up and become realistic. Seeing that there are better parks out there. I have said it before and I will say it again. I hope my obsession for Cedar Point never dies, the way I see it has for some of you.
"You wanna, you gotta, you hafta hold on, Cedar Point...HOLD ON!"
^Just because people think there are better parks out there doesnt mean we dont like CP. We wouldnt be posting here if we did! Im personally always pulled more towards a themed experience, Space Mt, Big Thunder and the Mummy coasters would be terribly boring and small without their themeing. Besides, I dont live 75 min from WDW or BGE anyways. Seriously there is no other amusment park I would rather be at, it just has way too many good coasters, its home to #2, #4, #7 on my steel coaster list. No where else has 3 of my top ten rides all in one place.
No where in my post did it say that the posters on this forum dislike Cedar Point. A lot of people did state that Cedar Point is not the best park out there, in their opinion. And that is fine. I'm not hating on anyone for that.
All I was trying to get across is that I DO think that Cedar Point is the best amusement park. I have not been to a lot of other parks yet. So my opinion could possibly change someday. I just hope it doesn't. Then I wouldn't be known at the one with a wierd Cedar Point obsession. :)

Yeah, me too. The poll is run by a magazine that wants to sell ads, and they poll a bunch of coaster nerds. It's not worth the paper it's printed on.
Those of you who think CP is number one at anything haven't spent enough time at other parks. I'd be willing to concede that they do ride operation better than everyone but Disney, but that's as far as I'd go.
And as someone else mentioned, just because some of us believe CP is far from #1 at anything doesn't mean we don't like the park. It just has a lot of room for improvement.

I branched out to some new parks in 2008. In February I went to Busch Gardens Africa. In the summer I went to King's Island and Michigan's Adventure for the first time. BGA was beyond all of my expectations. The rides, the atmosphere, and not to mention the tropical foliage. King's Island was excellent and I really enjoyed Michigan's Adventure. I also visited Canada's Wonderland to check out Behemoth and the ride was good, but that park still has room for improvement.
I'd love to visit more parks, but those (with the exception of BGA, that was a vacation) are the only ones within the reasonable driving distance for a day trip. In my line of work summer is the busiest season so sometimes it's even hard to get to these parks.
For me Cedar Point is just my happy place. People think I'm crazy going as many times per year as I do but I can never have too much Cedar Point. I just love the atmosphere, how I feel the same feeling every time I walk into the park. I'm not saying it's the best park in the world but it certainly is my favourite.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
