Disaster Transport new Theme Idea!

I have 3 Options

#1 Take Out the DT and the FD & Drinks. Then Pull the Gaint Wheel closer to the front of the parking area so the people will see it better before getting in.

#2 Take Out the DT and the Fd & Drks then make a New Coaster or Remake the DT.

#3 Take Out the DT and the Stadium and Remove a few of the Rides and a Few other things that are in that place and make a Bigger or a Longer Coaster.

#4 Just Keep the DT for the younger kids and some people who like to ride the Coaster or the waiting area and see alll the things that are in there.

That is my Point of that Ride because I am not a Fan of the DT; I just ride all other Coasters and Thrill Rides in the Park

So, yeah... I'm going to go out on a limb here and mention that its not necessary to use a different post for each concept.

Brandon

That is a pretty solid limb there.

I don't really have a problem with Disaster Transport for WHAT it is. I have a bigger problem with WHERE it is. Like I said, it is ugly-ing up what could be one of the prettiest places on the peninsula.

(For that matter...it is WAY, WAY, WAY past time to tear down the red Cedars Dorm. Forget the fact that it is an absolute embarassment to house employees there; it is also a wonderful spot on the peninsula that has SO much potential.)

Just look what they did by relocating the old maintenance area and putting in Lighthouse Point. That is one of the gems of the peninsula now. They took advantage of a natural resource. The same can be done at Disaster and Cedars.

Where, exactly, is the Cedars Dorm located?

Brandon

It is the red "building" (and I hesitate to call it a building) that is across perimeter road behind Wild Cat. It dates way, way back and was one of the first hotels at the Point. Calling it a hotel now is like calling a sand lot a baseball field.

I honestly don't know how it can measure up to current fire/safety codes. Officials might argue that since there have been no serious incidents in the dorm that it is proof it is safe. I would argue that is just dumb luck.

Honestly the gold dorms (behind Corkscrew) need to go too. They aren't quite as bad as Cedars...but that is like saying herpes ain't as bad as syphillis. Great...but I don't want either one thank you very much.

To put it into perspective, when I was on the WDW College Program we were housed in condos that had a/c, full kitchens, living room, bathrooms, tvs w/cable, tennis courts, swimming pools, etc, etc, etc. Now, we paid more than CP kids do....but it was worth every penny. The "living" environment was as much a draw to potential employees as the job/salary/etc.

That CAN be done at Cedar Point. The executives CHOOSE not to do it. That is very short-sighted in my opinion. They are already travelling the WORLD trying to recruit employees. Soon they will have to start visiting other planets to fill the summer vacancies.

Here's a thought: Make the living conditions comfortable so that it is a benefit of the job...and not the liability it really is.

XOXO

I think you may have read my 1st post wrong....I think that area of the does have the potential to look beautiful. But, that building is too valuable to the operation of the park for them to tear it down. Even if they were to take DT out, there's NO WAY that building would be destroyed. As I said before, that building houses many important offices.

Plus would you really like to get all amped up for project 2010, only to discover it's a new office building?

What other offices are in that building? I know that they use it for Halloweekends storage (as well as Pharaoh's Revenge or whatever it is called) and some other park storage, but all that could be moved fairly easily.

Even if they use the building for something else, it could be moved pretty easy to free up the land (and view).

Now don't get me wrong, I actually like the ride, I think it could use some TLC but I actually enjoy it, I just don't think it is using the location to the utmost. I could see them moving the entire thing (but what an endeavor!) to the other side, place it near Blue Streak (that area between Raptor and Blue Streak needs something), I know some people will say it won't fit. The building, like it is now, won't fit but the ride is a bunch of tubes that can fit just about anywhere, you just need to limit the wide open area's to where it will fit.

And if they do that they have a new ride, that can be re-themed, for the cost of moving an older one! *** Edited 7/25/2007 3:56:10 PM UTC by Morté615***

^^ Saying there's "NO WAY" they'd remove the building is incredibly shortsighted, and borders on idiotic.

Brandon

^First of all, no offense, we are all entitled to our opinions. I think what people don't realize is that building is much larger than people think. One blogger mentioned it is used for storage. That is 100% correct. It houses hundreds of individual ride parts, cabins, trains, etc. during the offseason. Many of these parts simply cannot be stored outside under tarps exposed to the winter elements. That is their main maintenance building. I can't see them tearing down the building until they have another building just as big, if not bigger, than the current one.

Your statement was less like an opinion, and more like a presumed fact.

And, yes, they use the building for storage. I bet, though, that at least part of the building could be reassembled elsewhere on the peninsula. Metal is funny like that.

And why would they need a bigger building?

Brandon

^ Feels good to be in the middle of a debate. Normally, I don't put my two cents in. Anyways, the more attractions they build, the more storage they'll need. So, instead of building another building the same size, they should build a bigger one so they don't max out the capacity within a couple years. My personal opinion is the current building is here to stay for many more seasons or until they run out of storage. But I don't believe they'll tear it down, without building another building for the same purpose.

You do understand that if they were to remove DT, there would be a considerable amount of empty space in the building, right? Well, they could take the materials from said building (steel beams, sheet metal, etc) and construct an adequately sized storage building at one of the many appropriate places on the peninsula.

Its not a storage issue. Do you honestly think CP is keeping DT because it's a storage building?

Brandon

I'm not saying that it's only a storage issue. What I am saying is that there are multiple factors keeping the building there. I still believe the coaster, although lacking in popularity, is a good starter coaster, and I believe management feels the same way. There's someone there making those types of decisions. I'm sure they've weighed the positives and negatives of keeping/tearing down the the building and for now it is their choice to keep the building.

Again, I agree the building could use some major repairs. But a major renovation to that area of the park would take years. You can't just slap together pieces of track like you do with a coaster and have it done in 8 months.

I'll be waiting to hear from you....

Its not a popular coaster? Since when?

2000: 1.064
2001: 1.053
2002: 1.097
2003: 1.064
2004: 1.033
2005: 1.118
2006: 0.985

That's how many rides, in millions, DT has given in recent years. Compare that to, for instance, Blue Streak.

Brandon

It's not too popular according to the people on this site...you guys said it, first.
