Dinosaurs! >>>Good idea or really bad idea???

Well I'm kind of new to Point Buzz but I am a former employee of Wicked Twister and a former Life guard from Castaway Bay. But anyways I dont' know if you all agree with me or not but this big investment of the Dinosaurs is a horrable idea. It seems to me that Cedar Point is starting to loose it's original ways of thinking and seems like they are going to start being like Disney land/world and I am personally sadden by this bcause I've grown up and even worked at Cedar Point because they are orginal and have been. I think in stead of wasteing money on this they should be putting up another coaster or even a boardwalk in stead of over pricing for a event that may not be worth it. I think it's a dumb move on Cedar Point's part and they should get rid of it. This is just me though....

its location seems bad. with millenium force racing aroud wont seem like dinosaurs belong there.

I tend to think so but I haven't seen the numbers from Kings Island.

Coasters and concrete?

If only, if only. I'd kill for a ride like Countdown to Extinction (or even Kingdom of the Dinosaurs, for that matter). Crappy museum quality dinosaurs like these aren't something you'd find in a Disney park (unless you count Universe of Energy but the detailed sets add a lot), let alone have to pay extra for. Matter of fact, you find them in Downtown Disney in a restaurant called T-Rex Cafe as just part of the atmosphere.

The location is terrible, but they've cut down every other bit of forested area outside Frontier Trail, so they didn't have a lot of options. I'd rather have Paddlewheel Excursions back but I digress.

Call me crazy, but maybe, just MAYBE you wait until the attraction opens up to pass such strong judgement on it? Or is that to much to ask of you?

I think in stead of wasteing money on this they should be putting up another coaster

What kind of coaster can you build for $1 million?

^Vekoma Kiddie Coaster? ;)

Welcome to Pointbuzz first off. I'll start off by saying that you are not alone in your views of Dinos Alive (I am opposite on the subject even though it's not my cup of tea either). However, the fact of matter is that DA is not intended for coaster enthusiasts. We no longer represent their main source of income......families are (and rightly should be). It's families who spend the most and who are willing to spend a few extra dollars so their kid or kids can see and experience robotic dinosaurs and perhaps enjoy their day a little more. It may not be for everyone but it's something they WILL gain by having. And, in reality, they're not spending a whole lot on this attraction when you consider it as part of everything else that's being added/updated.

Also, this is by no means a "permanent attraction" like a roller coaster. Despite cutting a few trees down (which can be regrown elsewhere), there's not a whole lot this is ruining. When it runs it's course (however long that is), they can very easily make the area seem like it was never home to some robotic dinosaurs.

Nobody outside of this fanbase is going to complain that seeing Dinosaurs is going to ruin their ride experience on Millennium. At least no more than they did when Terror Island was put in or when Shoot the Rapids was built.

I'm not trying to change your opinion but the truth is you're not obligated to go through it and it does not intrude on your Cedar Point experience outside of the whole Paddle Wheel deal. Cedar Point is and will always have to be an evolving business. If building coasters every few years is not helping boost your attendance or show record returns in profits, then other things must be considered.......things you might not enjoy yourself. Just look forward to a great new year with an AWESOME new CEO and the kind of freedom the various people in charge never had till now.

I don't know... I'm sure the quality of the attraction will be fine, but I just feel like Dinosaurs! is a weird fit for CP. The park has no other educational attractions, so slapping one on an island that's surrounded by nothing but rides seems a little weird... And outside of the Challenge Park, there haven't been any up-charge attractions located within the park for a long time (has there ever?), which again makes me feel like the attraction stick out.

I'm sure this will be a money maker (which is the point, obviously), but it still feels... weird to me. haha

Thrills Around the Corner!

I see it as a great idea. It's something new that I'm sure there will be thousands of people that will go through it numerous times and if you think back when you were a kid I'm sure dinosaurs were just about the coolest thing to you. So with all of the kids that come with families will love to go into it. And having been one of the few people to actually have been able to work on the island I can say that having Millennium on the island isn't a distraction at all. The first time the coaster goes through you forget it's there. And look at the big picture of the whole thing, the fact that Cedar Fair is able to put a new attraction in the park shows it's growing. I'm sure if nothing was going in the park there would be just as many complaints if not more for nothing new going in. This will bring in people that are interested in what it is and want to see it. I for one plan on going through it a few times, because working on the island I know what it was like before and I think this is a great addition. I just never understood all the negativity people have towards something that they haven't been on (such as a ride) or go to see( an attraction or live show).

I have been to Cedar Point every year since I was born. I am not an old timer and am in my mid 20s (or maybe that does makes me an old timer now). What really killed me over the last few years is that attractions that are/were signature to the park are starting to go by the wayside or be taken out. I understand that things change.

When I first heard the Dinosaur Island news, I thought to myself, "This could be a great way to invigorate Paddlewheel and create another family attraction." You could keep the boats going and have the old scenes mixed with some new dinosaur scenes. Then I saw they were taking out Paddlewheel and upcharging people who already paid to get into the park to get into another attraction. I know I don't have to go through it, but that is not the point.

I do not liken this to the separation of Cedar Point, Challenge Park, and Soak City. These are all separate areas and I can justify paying to enter said areas or participate in those attractions. I also want to make it known, I am not one of the, "I only want roller coasters added," bunch. Paddlewheel was a ride the whole family could go on (parents, children, grand parents) pretty much all at the same time free with the price of admission. It really is a great loss. Now, correct me if I am wrong. the train is the only attraction left like this and from what I am hearing, Cedar Point may be considering sending the CP & LE Railroad to the chopping block (this is only a rumor and I do not put much faith into it).

I thought it was great what they did with taking out WWL and putting in Maverick and then putting in Shoot The Rapids. To this day though, I have not gone into or even walked on the newer cement around Johnny Rockets. It's my little 1 man Fascination protest.

This is just my 2 cents on this subject. I still miss Fascination, The Pirate Ride, Dominiques in The Breakers (I almost laugh to myself when I see that Perkins sign), the live bands, remote control boats under Iron Dragon, Schwabinchen, did I mention Fascination...

When it all comes down to it. It's not going to stop me from going to Cedar Point and I am most likely going to go through it. I really liked the recent interview with Matt that just came out. I think his Disney background will be a great asset to the park. I liked what he said.

With all of that said, bring on opening day!

You obviously are way to young to remember the original concept for the revitalized Cedar Point in the 1960s, when the owners wanted to create an "Ohio Disneyland". Now granted, they were never much like Disneyland, but they were known for a wide range of attractions like Jungle Larry Safari Island, Western Cruise, CP&LE RR, Sealand, Kid Arthur's Court, Oceana, San Francisco Earthquake etc.

Some of these are gone and some are still here, but CP was well known as an amusement park with lots of different things to do, not just a coaster park as many people look at it now.

Rather than losing originality, to me CP seems to be going back to its roots. There will still be coasters of course, but I think you will see some unique things that are not coasters that the entire family can enjoy, and that's a good thing.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Other non-ride attractions that have been at the Point include a wax museum (two versions), an aquarium, and, one I really miss, an IMAX theater that actually showed IMAX films. However, no upcharge for any of these.

The only upcharge attraction in the park I can remember was a helicopter ride they once had on the main midway.

I don't think you'll ever see an up-charge attraction in the park unless its something like Dinsosaurs Alive!. The whole point of Challenge Park is to include the up-charge rides.

Enjoy the rest of your day at America's Rockin' Roller Coast! Ride On!

At least challenge park does not include park admission to ride their rides/play golf/go karts. Dinosaurs you have to pay park admission first, then pay extra $5.

The mini-golf use to be inside the park, and I am guessing it was an up charge. I don't understand why people are so upset that DA is an up charge attraction while inside the park. Just because Challenge Park is outside of the park does not mean you can't have an up charge attraction in the park. Just about every other amusement park that has up charge attractions has them inside the park, do you all boycott those parks because of this?? OR, if Challenge Park was inside the park would the same amount of bitching still be happening?

How is this any different than when they added Pinks Hotdogs last year? It was a new "attraction" that charged you to enjoy their service. You didn't have to buy from there, just as you don't have to go through DA.

I guess I don't see the big deal, especially since it is only $5.

Pete I have been going to Cedar Point since I was born and my family for generations have also been attending Cedar Point. I may be young but I'm very well aware that at no point in Cedar Point's history or documents was it called the Disney World of Ohio. I respect your view however I kindly disagree. As a former employee I know quite a bit about the insides and out of Cedar point and also know the history that goes along with it.

Pete is right. When CP started to grow again in the 60's, a lot of things were inspired by Disneyland. No, it was never called Disney World of Ohio. But they did take some inspiration from it.

Imagine your favorite tv show. You've been through it all. The ups, the downs, the crazy coincidences and then bang! They tell you what it's all about. Would you be happy? Does it make sense? How come it all ended in a church? - Joker

I'm sure no one has the thought, "I just want to go into Dinosaurs Alive! and that's it. I don't want to ride anything or see any shows, just see the dinosaurs."

11 years.

If you were an old timer like me you would remember that at one time everything was an up charge. Until they started the pay one price wrist band you had to pay for every ride or you could stil buy ride tickets. When they went to pay one price people complained, why should I pay to ride everything when they didn't want to ride everything. If you don't want to pay the price you don't have to that is fine with me. We did DA at KI last year and had a great time and I am looking forward to seeing them at Cp this year, and can't wait to ride Milly and see the Dinosaur from the coaster, I think that it will be an amazing sight.
