Dinosaurs! >>>Good idea or really bad idea???

CP is a business, moreover CP has shareholders to please. They'll charge what the market will bear, right? Vote with your wallets.

Having said that, no dinos for me.

This means I have to drop another $20.00 at least or we have to listen to them whine the entire car ride home.

Or it could be a learning experience for your kids to find out that they won't get whatever they want whenever they want it.

Hi, welcome to having children, you must be new at this. I take it you give in to your kids every time they see a toy at Target and whine until they get it? Or whine until they get the cookie they want? Or the Happy Meal at McDonalds? Seriously, your excuse is that you have to fork over more money so you don't have to hear your kids whine and cry? How do you make it past any of the games, gift shops, food stands or rides that they are to small to ride but want to try out? Or are your kids not interested in any of those things?

OK, here is the problem with the new DA attraction. It's extortion.

Two things:

1. Buy yourself a dictionary, and look up "extortion".

2. If an extra $20 is going to make or break your vacation budget, you should cancel your vacation immediately. It would be irresponsible to take a vacation you cannot afford.

All of the sudden, the midway games - with their enticing stuffed animals - sounds criminal.

Never said it wasn't a business or doesn't try to please shareholders, that is what it is supposed to do. Just pointing out it's a shift in business philosophy that will remain to be seen if it is for the best. You can't say it's all about the money. CP could raise the same amount of money or more by just raising the general admission price $.25 or $.50 and not charging for DA. Chances are no one would bat an eye raising the admission price less than 1%. Plus, if someone did object, then they could vote with their wallet and not go to the park.

Maybe if CP decides to institute a tiered admission policy that would be a good idea. You can have a basic package where you can ride anything that's not a coaster or a new ride. Or, you could have the medium package which includes the basic package and coasters under 120 feet. or, you could have the deluxe package which includes any ride in the park; but, that package is twice the price admission is now or whatever the market will bear.

Either business philosophy will make money. The question is, what one do you like best; one that keeps cost down for everyone; or, the one that targets specific groups of people? (heavy I know, kind of a capitalism vs. communism debate). If CP wants to drive families away then upcharging for family attractions is a good way to do it.

Categorically false. There have been numerous up-charge attractions in and around the park for quite a long time.

CP could raise the same amount of money or more by just raising the general admission price $.25 or $.50 and not charging for DA.

Would you mind sharing the financial data you have that led you to this conclusion?

Plus, if someone did object, then they could vote with their wallet and not go to the park.

You should take your own advice. :)

How is this any different from the park adding an upcharge Rock Wall in the park, or like the majority of major parks that feature a Skycoaster inside the park that require a park admission to access?

I guess you guys missed the part where I said we go to CP to have fun, not teach life lessons or every day budget planning. When you are on vacation, you don't worry about money. That doesn't mean it doesn't effect our decision about where we go or how long we stay. Again, how many of you would have the same opinion if CP decided to make Millenium Force, TTD, and Maverick upcharge attractions. You can't tell me it wouldn't ruin your day a little bit knowing you have to pay extra for things you like to ride.

Exactly. Can't afford the extra $20 for DA? Then you have no business taking a vacation in that price range to begin with. Try a local zoo or state park instead.

Or just wait. I'm guessing the dinos will be free or very cheap in 3-5 years.

In 3-5 years I expect that Dino's won't even be there. It was said at the time that KI had a 3 year contract from the company providing the Dino's. Then when it went to CP I have heard they got a 5 year contract. So it may take that long but unless they bring in large numbers later in it's life I fully expect to see it leave CP in 5 years.

Though I could see KI keeping it for longer. The area in the park that it is located, was not really used for anything (expect part of a Haunt trail, but that can re-routed if they want to) whereas the CP area is prime for a few flat rides, I wouldn't mind seeing them getting rid of Kid Arthers Court and expanding Camp Snoopy onto the island. Maybe give KI a run for the best Kid's area in a few years! :)

Exactly how does driving families to parks and zoos help the bottom line for Cedar Point? Never said I couldn't afford $20.00. The question is what price point are people willing to pay and should the cost be distributed amongst all guest or should the park target certain groups. With the upcharge, they are gambling that they make more money with the upcharge to offset any business they drive away. They might be right; but, don't try to sell it as a family friendly attraction. Point is, if they are right, watch out for future upcharges on new attractions which will drastically change they way we all think of the park now.

The sky is falling!!!

At least challenge park does not include park admission to ride their rides/play golf/go karts. Dinosaurs you have to pay park admission first, then pay extra $5.

That is my very point thank you

I'm sure no one has the thought, "I just want to go into Dinosaurs Alive! and that's it. I don't want to ride anything or see any shows, just see the dinosaurs."

Exactly - you can go to the museum to do that.

I'm okay with the DA because it gives CP extra money to build new rides. : )

No I read it and I also read the what you said about the attraction being "extortion". If you really go to the park for fun and you really don't worry about money, then why are you on this site talking about DA being "extortion"? So what was the point of your post if you don't mind the extra $20?

What djDaemon says. If you have to worry about the money, why bother going?
