Dick Kinzel's Revenge! (Shot Glass size Free Water Cups)...

MaVeRiCk 'n MaGnUm XL's avatar

to solve this issue its quite simple actually. Dig in your wallet and buy a Maverick cup for 9 dollars. drink the pop, soda, whatever you would like to call it. return to a food stand and hand them your cup. ask them for some water and they will fill it for you.
I have done it many times over the summer. Just take the cup you bought on your trips. That way you get a good sized water and will keep it quite cool for a while also. Just TRY IT

My guess is that the change isn't some conspiracy against the water drinkers, but rather a change in accounting practices.

They are probably switching to the time-honored practice of using cup counts to audit their beverage sales. That means not giving away the same cups that are used for sale product.

Also, are they still doing the drink wristbands? If so, then the change may be an effort to audit that program by making sure that the wristband drinks are not served in the same cups as the water.

No more buyable wristbands-that program got killed real fast same with KI. Im thinking it was real popular and/or not profitable or I blame my hubby-he could easily drink over 50.00 worth of pop in one day! :)

It's all about getting around the barrels, or over the fences, right leads, no faults, fastest time and looking pretty when done. What's so hard about that?

Yea...God forbid if we actualy can get a good deal on something.

I thought they might have discontinued the wristbands, as the signs previously used to promote the program are now promoting the refillable bottle...which, for a frequent visitor who drinks a lot, may actually be a slightly better deal than the wristband, though for a single day it is clearly a worse value. But it also indicates that like the wristbands, you have to buy the bottles at the ticket booths.

Hmmm...let's look at this value thing...

Wristband Bottle
Visit Drink Drinks Total Unit Total Unit
1 1 1 $9.99 $9.99 $9.99 $9.99
1 2 2 $9.99 $5.00 $10.98 $5.49

5 5 29 $49.95 $1.72 $37.71 $1.30
5 6 30 $49.95 $1.67 $38.70 $1.29

Looks like the wristband is a better value for a single day, but for a season pass holder, the bottle program is a better deal, even though each refill is $0.99.

Yea, but the bottle is a pain in the nuts to deal with. I'd pay a little extra to not have to carry and store the stupid thing. :)

Oh, I completely agree with you there. But the issue was whether they had taken away a good value, and it turns out that if anything they added value to the refill program. Resulting nut pain notwithstanding. If they wanted to make it an even better value, they would make it a generic Cedar Fair bottle...

I have a question on that wristband. Could you say "one large cup" or "5 cups" or use your refillable maverick cup? Or wpuld you have to keep standing in line for a small cup of Mountain Dew?

The cups arn't that small. They are a lot bigger than shot glasses that's for sure.

You should be happy they don't charge for the cup like many gas stations do, although the water itself is free.

If you really want a free cup of water (as in you have a headache from dehydration), just go to First Aid, and let them know that you are dehydrated. I don't think I've ever had a problem with getting water at First Aid. I don't know about now, but First Aid used to even offer free over-the-counter medications such as Ibuprofin.

The park doesn't have to offer anything for free. While it is in their best interest to keep you hydrated, last I checked, there is no Water Tzar in the Obama administration dictating how much water they give you and in what kind of cup.

NOTE: Unless you are severely dehydrated, not feeling well, or otherwise need medical attention, I would suggest trying to get water at a food stand or drinking fountain before going to First Aid.

That was the cup size that I was served free water in, back in June. I was very grateful. McDonald's charges $.10 for a cup of water. Their cup is a bit bigger than that one, but I was willing to pay for a cup if I had to.

While Cedar Point has to offer free water, they do not have to serve it to you in a cup. So I would say be happy with what you got, I guess.

DjDaemon, I wouldn't consider myself a pansy because I like to drink out of a cup.

Sorry, but I would. Plus, its needlessly wasteful in terms of energy & fossil fuel use. Just sayin'. :)

I hear that Kinzel's a "numbers" guy. If he finds that employees are spending more time and the overall cost is increasing (because too many people are asking for multiple cups when one used to do,) you'll see a return to larger cups real quick (or a charge for water, ugh.) I've gotten the new smaller cups and they're not enough to fully quench my thirst. I now make it a point, when I see the smaller cup being filled, to say something like "Oh, you're using the smaller cups here? Then I'll need two." Hopefully the message will get back that their decision is costing them extra time + an extra cup. Getting two cups doesn't really bother me. If that turns out to be the better option for the company from a cost standpoint, I'm perfectly fine with it. I'll just keep asking for 2 cups each time.

Hey, I heard a rumor that Top Thrill Dragster is sinking...

IIRC, Waldameer last year was charging ten cents for a glass of ice water.

^^ Some 15 or 16 yeard old kid serving water will not give a crap
If you make it a point that they have small cups for water.

^ I disagree. Most employees I encounter do care about their job & my feedback. I'm sure some will pass my comments along to those who can make a difference in the policy.

If you buy these in bulk, you get them even cheaper than the price listed....

I doubt that it is going to make kinzles wallet any lighter to buy the bigger cups.

Cost of (1) 8 ounce glass versus the countless ketchup cups they will be giving out to thirsty guests........

Okay and heres the deal, I liked my 8 ounce cup filled up with nice ice cold refreshing water and ice. If I go to a drinking fountain I might get some 63 degree water, and where was the ice dispenser by the water fountain again? Oh I forgot they don't have them....

I am just going to ask them for an empty pepsi cup, and ask them to fill it with ice to the top ,and then I will let the ice melt as I die of heat stroke in line. Then I'll be sipping on the cool...cool ice.

All they are doing is pissing off the people who know the park best. And we tell our friends...who in turn tell their friends.
