Dick Kinzel's Revenge! (Shot Glass size Free Water Cups)...

It could? It is pumped out of the lake, through a filtering system and into pipes running throughout every city in America? Wow, I was unaware we had come so far in our development of sunscreen.

Goodbye MrScott

John

Talk about a moving target. First you say that when sunscreen pours out of a pipe in the ground, you will start asking for free sunscreen. When I point out that you could easily install a dispensing system that would allow sunscreen to pour out of a pipe in the ground, you respond with lakes, filtering systems and every city in America. Why don't you just take some time and think about what you think distinguishes water and sunscreen and post that once. Then I can respond to it. At this point, I have no more reason to think that your most recent attempt is anything more than the moving target that your first one was. ;)

Is it that hard to recognize the difference between a system put together to deliver water to people and a pole stuck in the ground covered in sunscreen?

Goodbye MrScott

John

Its pretty easy to come up with a lot of differences. Though there are a lot of similarities as well. But what I am trying to figure out is the differences that lead you to believe that one should be free and the other shouldn't. And because you changed your statement of those differences in two separate posts, that isn't something easy to determine at all.

Free sunscreen?

What do you think this is?...Holiday world?

What has happened here, is the very definition of a straw man argument.

So you don't see a difference between something which everyone will need each visit to the park...

So would you rather compare water to restrooms then? Should they not provide that either?

You mean, you don't drop by the urgent care on your way in and get cath'd?

What kind of park fan are you? Shame on you for not taking the necessary provisions.

I think when making comparisons of two or more things, its important to look at all of the relevant similarities/differences rather than focusing on just one. Focusing on just one similarity/difference leads to statements such as if it pours out of a pipe in the ground, we'll ask that it be provided for free.

I think the same risks are there if you only focus on the fact that you need to drink fluids and use the restroom on every visit to the park. There are significant differences between drinking fluids and restrooms. If you are unable to provide for your down hydration, you will pretty much only impact yourself. At some point, you will get dehydrated, suffer from heat exhaustion, pass out, etc. Unless you fall on someone or something other than concrete, you will only hurt yourself. And when you leave the park for the day, you will leave no lasting impact (unless you fall on something and break it).

Lack of restrooms will create issues for everyone in the park. At some point, nature will take its course and everyone is going to need to go. Without restrooms, they will go wherever they can (on trees, in bushes, in ponds, etc.). That will create sanitation/health issues for everyone in the park eventually turning it into a smelly cesspool. And what you do there without bathrooms will have lasting impacts beyond your stay.

There are also differences in terms of your ability to provide for yourself. If you don't like the park options for fluids, you can put a cooler in your car (most people have coolers, if not you can buy one for less than $20) with some ice (you can get a bag of ice for less than $2 if you don't have a ice maker at home) and bottled water (pretty cheap at Target or just put some tap water in a bottle for even less). People do it all the time (and not just for trips to CP).

Restrooms are a different story. You could use a catheter but that would not address all waste issues. In addition, I doubt that many people are going to be able to insert a catheter themselves so you are going to need third party assistance (most likely professional/medical). And although I suspect that virtually everyone who visits the park at some point in their life has tossed a couple drinks with some ice in a cooler, relatively few park visitors have had a catheter. So one is pretty much an ordinary course activity while the other isn't.

Now, you could also bring your own restroom facilities to the park I suppose. You could rent a porta john and tow it on a trailer. Cost would be significantly higher than a cooler/ice/drinks. You could also drive a camper with restroom facilities though those costs would be even greater than the porta john. And most people don't own campers, and I suspect that very few people have ever rented a porta john (compare that to the number of folks who have used a cooler).

Now, I am sure someone is going to ask if CP should charge for restrooms. I suppose that they could. But I think its very impractical to do so. How are you going to make sure those who use them pay? Will you charge different amounts based on what they do in the restrooms? How will you monitor that? And from a marketing standpoint, I think its difficult to charge people for things that are ancillary to the businesses purpose (in this case providing entertainment/amusement to its customers), that everyone needs and that folks view as a necessity from which they get no enjoyment. Folks need to eat/drink but most folks get enjoyment from the foods/drinks they consume. I don't think folks get any enjoyment from lockers but not everyone needs/wants one (I suspect that most people who visit the park do not use lockers).

Thats the long answer. Short answer is that no, I wouldn't rather compare water to restrooms for the reasons noted above. And yes, also for the reasons noted above, I do think the park should provide restrooms.

Just for the record this weekend Los Gatos had the bigger cups.

I don't know if it was this way everywhere in the park, but if Cedar Point actually listened to our dissatisfaction with the ice water cups, THANK YOU! You made me very happy yesterday, and I didn't even feel ripped off for buying $10 of fries.

I went to Happy Friar across from Gemini, and I bought 2 orders of fries and got 3 ice waters for my friends. The ice waters were the PERFECT size...a large, clear, high-quality cup. It was such a nice cup that I almost didn't want to throw it away.

Also, I've seen this mentioned several times this season already (and maybe it's just because it's early), but the employees seemed particularly kind and cheery. So if any CP workers are reading this, thanks for the great experience!

I agree.

The cups were larger at the stands I got them at. The whole 3 days we were at the park, we did not run into one bad employie. They were all very nice.

We also did not buy any soda pop eather. $4.50 for syrup water is way too much. I will stick to the free ice water. Better for me anyways.

I hate to drag this thread out of warehouse again, but the mini water cups are back. Last Monday the were handing out the 16 oz. cups of water. On Friday and yesterday they were giving out the 3 oz. cups. The change was made during the hottest week of the year. Maybe a coincidence. Just reporting the news.

djDaemon's avatar

Perhaps, during the hottest week of the year, they ran out of the larger ones.

Brandon

That may be a possibilty, but I noticed the stands that sell the frozen drinks had both size cups. I could be they ran short and are using their supply only for the frozen drinks. We'll see what happens. I wouldn't think it would take too long to get more large cups.

JuggaLotus's avatar

Can you imagine what would happen if they had run out of small cups, and people buying a slushie were told they only had large ones available?

When I was there on the 4th, they were handing out all differant sized cups at differant stands.

I did notice a hell of a lot more people drinking the ice water than ever before. I have noticed this on the past few visits.

I was at the park all day Saturday and saw both sizes at various locations.

All I say is "Not to throw your Water cup in the Trash". Keep them in your hands to refill them. That is what I do at the POINT.

Yea.....

That's a great idea. I just love carrying around a used plastic crushable cup around the park with me all day.
