4 locations is simply not enough.
King's Island had it spot on.. they had an area close to the exit of every major coaster. That's when I am most likely to light up.
I'm a good boy and don't smoke in line... but after not smoking for xx minutes of wait, then riding.. I'm going to want one.
When PKI first instated the rule, I was not looking forward to my first visit there with the rule in place. I was pleasantly surprised, however, to find that the designated areas were easily located, and weren't as scarce as I thought they would be.
With CP being the size it is... that simply isn't enough locations. They're going to have a hell of a time enforcing that if the number of locations isn't increased.

Thanks Brandon, gratz to you too! :)

Ride on, MrScott!
Still smoking here, ya I know....... I should quit.
I don't have a problem with following the rules. Some of the spots they selected are pretty good. One near the Last Chance Saloon, one near the Red Garter...... but can we please have an area outside of the Game Day Grill? How about the old Pirate Ride area? Heck, I'd even tip a hefty amount for a cocktail waitress to run and fetch my beer if the set up tables in there! Makes more sense than between the Giant Wheel and the Troika area..........
I too think it should be compleatly banned in all public (meaning places the public is allowed, not necessarly publicly owned) places however I am realistic and know that will not happen for many years still. I am very happy with the new policy of designated smoking areas though I agree with dj, the next few years will be transition years and it will be difficult to change people all at once. 4 areas just doesn't sound like enough to start out with in a park that size. Hopefully the enforcement is good.

As a smoker myself I don't have a problem with smoking in a designated area. However, I do agree with previous posts that it would be nice to have a few more areas. Considering that it is an outdoor environment there are plenty of areas they could put them that are off of the main walkways and still allow those of us who like to smoke the opportunity to.
On a side note, I vowed this year to no longer attend Indians games due to the fact that they have now made all of Jacob's Field non-smoking. I know it is healthier, but when you use a sin tax on cigarettes and alcohol to pay for your nice new stadium it only seems fair to allow those who payed for it to be able to smoke somewhere within the stadium.
Sorry about my venting, but last time I checked I still live in the United States, but it seems like the government keeps trying to tell me what I can and can't do.

I agree that the chosen areas are too few. Seems to me that you'd want there to be plenty of areas, at least in the "transition" years.
Ideally, I agree, but people would probably be more upset if they gave them ten areas now and cut it down to, say, five over the next few years.
It's best to just set the bar high if that's where you want to go. People will adjust.
according to the ohio smoking ban a business can make it's own decision on whether or not to allow smoking in outdoor areas. If a business decides to ban smoking in outdoor areas and posts no smoking signs anyone who ignores them risk the same penaltys as someone who ignores the indoor smoking ban.
Long story short - this is Cedar Point's decision.

I'm not a smoker, and being around smokers is a pet peeve. That said, I probably don't go nearly as often as most of you here, but I've almost never had a problem with smokers at Cedar Point.
I've seen people smoking, sure, but I can't recall ever seeing someone close to me smoking in line, or being obnoxious about it.
I like the new rule, but being as Cedar Point IS outdoors, I don't see it as big of a problem as entering a restaruant that's filled with smoke, either.
Looking forward to Cedar Point- July 4th-5th, 2007!
You've been lucky, or it just doesn't bother you very much. Or, I'm unlucky and it bothers me more than most people. :) Actually, I'm very sensitive to smoke because I think I'm borderline allergic to it. My eyes water, I get migraines and just feel nauseous around cigarette smoke. Without fail, I get rude smokers in the queue every time I visit CP. I've asked them nicely to put it out, but they usually get rude and irate and make a scene. So, lately I've just stopped asking them to be courteous of others.
I bet cleaning up the butts is CPs biggest complaint about smoking. If they can all but limit this garbage to four sections of the park, that helps them save a lot of money. In theory, they wouldn't need as many sweepers.
