The front gate has plenty of turnstiles to handle the crowds on most days, its just a matter of staffing them so that all the turnstiles can be open.

Back when I was a season pass holder, even with all the turnstiles open you would still wait in a long line. For the size park, the entrance is small. But I have walked through that gate only twice since 2001 so I couldn't tell you about the crowds today. But I would imagine they have only grew in size.
Isn't the whole peninsula covered with sand. I remember reading that during MF's construction it was a mess beneath the lift. I believe Jeff said this. Basically, foundation wise, every ride built at the park has to be very wide because of the type of soil they have.
As for the main gate, here's what I'm talking about:

Typically the front gate handles the crowds just fine. Sometimes it gets a little backed up if there's a large rush of people or right at opening. It might be nice to give the exit gate on the guest services side of the entrance the ability to admit guests into the park on the occasion that things get really crazy, but it wouldn't be needed often.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
I agree Gomez on the pictures you posted. The whole front plaza needs updated. The gate itself is fine though. Even the ticket booths look good to me. I wonder if the park will ever go to the type of lockers that Geauga Lake has? The Smarte Carte ones.
I wish they would, but I think we'll be waiting a few more years for that and other technological improvements (specifics on technology were discussed in earlier threads, if someone else cares to reference them).

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.
I always thought it'd be cool to have fountains, like at Station Square in Pittsburgh, somewhere within the entrance plaza.

It's an interesting concept, looks a bit like a GCI except out and back, but I stand by my statement that the scale is all off. A wooden coaster could go there sure, but it wouldn't be able to follow the blueprint (paintprint? ;-) you laid out at all.
I dont think you heard Vince or myself when we said not to scale. Just so you're clear, here it is again: The layout I made is in no way drawn to scale and could never be recreated in real life with the given amount of space and dimensions.
Actually the coaster wouldn’t be all that tall anyway while I’m at it. Its top height would probably be around 150ft and IMO, Intamins prefab wooden coasters would be the best choice (though Gravity Groups "hybrid" is another good choice). Not only do they have the luxury of the option of utilizing a cable lift, but the coaster in general is very smooth and very fast. Imagine having something with the speed and air/ejector time that Eltoro is claimed to have.

The fountain at Station Square is cool to watch. I too have thought fountains similar to that one would be cool. And that makes me remember when there was the rumor (although I am pretty sure it was more then a rumor) of new midway fountains that would have dancing water.
I hope they don't get rid of the "water ball" by Raptor. I LOVE that thing. I know its dated, but that's why I love it. :)
You know what else is great about that fountain? A lot of people include that fountain every year in pictures they take. It's one of the best fountains out there.

In 2001 the park was suppose to get a whole bunch of fountains somewhere along the Main Midway. If you watch closely in the World's Largest Amusement Park (the international version of it) they briefly show the blue prints for it. I always thought it would be cool if they actually went through with those plans and built the fountains.
A fountain might be coll in the grassy area just in fromt of the main gate or near Coasters

They could have fountains by the entrance like the ones that the Tigers stadium has in centerfield. On the roof where you walk in?
Let's Get Weird.
I would love to see them bulldoze the front gate and completely redo it. Its VERY dated and isn't a good first impression for the park. When they put in the new roller coaster up front to replace Demon Drop, they can run the track over the entrance gate. Talk about building excitement!
What about just a facelift with some cool looking cosmetics? I was thinking something like what Thorpe Park did to it's parking lot enterance gates would look neat atop the entrance gate.

That would be cool, expecially if Cedar Point would find a way to take it to the next level, just so it wouldnt be an obvious rip off.

Are you referring to the gate itself, or the whole plaza inside and out? Because as I said on the last page, I don’t see anything wrong with the actual front gate structure. It looks nice and is in pretty good condition. Now, the other gates are the ones that need to be updated. But as far as amusement park entrances go, I think Cedar Points is pretty nice.
But if your talking about the rest of the area, then I agree it needs updated. Front gate rentals, season pass center, the bathrooms, picnic shelters, etc.
