I will be working at the point next year (hoopefully), so which should I go for?

MAVERICK IS THE BESt
Um when i worked the desk at ceadrs there were mostly guys from other countries. Commons is where most of the gay guys lived
depends on several things, if you lack a mode of transportation or a good friend that does, and if in that case u have some extra $ to spring for a window air conditioner, cedars is the place. also helps if you like waking up as late as possible before work.

Pick the lesser of two evils. Get an apartment in Sandusky so you don't die of any diseases transmitted by black mold.
The sweeders is ok if you don't mind big nasty spiders, a few ball garglers, or lack of a/c. It is close, cheap, and quiet late at nite. Good if you do not have a vehicle.
If you do have a vehicle and like to drink, Commons may be the way to go. I would not go too wild as things have chaned in the last 30 years. It was a little different in 1980.

Wow. That wasn't offensive or anything.

Yah, I think it was a bit off color... but it could have been worse I suppose...
Either way, the ones who are cool with it and non vocal, are generally "NOT" and the ones who are vocal and scared about it generally "ARE" and have something to hide...
"Things that make you go Hmmmm... :-)"
Wow, some of you people are idiots. Cedars because you're gay? Come on. It's cheaper and has less modern commodities. Commons is where 80% of the people that live in housing are, so you're more in the mix of things. Getting an apartment in town is a complete kill of the whole Cedar Point expierence. It makes it more just a 'job' than being an expierence that you'll hopefully have fond memories of. I know it did for me. You have the rest of your life to live in your own apartment/house, but only a few years to just live carefree with your friends and co-workers.

Living in Commons also exposes you to practically dozens of diseases, ridiculously rude and loud people late into the night, crappy internet, no overnight visitation, living with 3 or 4 people in a room barely big enough for 2, a lax maintenance staff, and dirty bathrooms. I'm probably leaving things out, too.
If it wasn't so cheap and finding a 6-month lease on an apartment wasn't impossible in Sandusky, I would have stayed in an apartment 10 times out of 10 over Commons.

Does the Health Dept ever make inspections here? Is this even legal to have black mold growing in housing?
Sorry for posting in the forum. I am not an employee, but these housing threads make the housing sound down right nasty and I feel for you on that one.
At the very minimum I would recommend getting a spray bottle and fill it 1/10th worth of bleach. Cut the other 9/10th with water (Cutting this way will cut down on the strong smell). Spray the mold areas daily when you leave in the morning for work. When it starts to die off, spray every few days for preventative measures.
Also, as far as the nasty showers and getting foot fungus. Try the following:
Go to the local Walmart and pick up some pool chlorine and one of those water based foot massagers (can not remember what they are called, but you plug them in for vibration and heat). Figure out what concentration you need of the chlorine to get the proper PPM of the amount of water the massager holds. Soak you feet in this for around ten minutes each noght after your shower. Also, you can try Hyrdogen Peroxide, but it is not as effective. You can also spray your feet each day prior to putting on your socks with Loatrimen (SP?), this can get coastly though since it is not cheap.
Good luck with getting the proper housing for what you pay for.
^If they do health inspections, they don't do a very good job. There was definitely black mold in some of the shower stalls in the 1400 building. That's some good advice you gave for those who are returning, though.
The cheaper way to protect your feet is a pair of sandals. It's disgusting to use any kind of public shower in bare feet. When I lived in housing I would see guys all the time in the bathrooms in bare feet. I just don't understand how anyone could do something like that.
If the mods are OK, create a topic on best practices for living in the dorms. I have many work arounds from my college days that I can share from time to time.
One is, kill my purchase chlorine from Walmart comment. Instead, make a friend in Soak City and get it for free...:)
Sorry for the double post here, but I missed the sandals comment.
Yes these are good for the first time or so. Please remember that they are touching the nasty surface. If you do not soak them in bleach it is almost the same as walking bare foot within a few weeks of using them. It actually could become worse since the sandals present a wet space for mold and fungus to grow in a room that is dark during the day. If you take this approach, make sure your sandals are well taken care of.
I used the same sandals for the shower all summer and never had any kind of problem. The strange guy and his crew who cleaned the bathrooms once a day always did a good job, but by the time evening rolled around, they were dirty again and if you try to complain to housing they will just say "It's your fault, you employees need to keep it clean yourselves." The only thing that worried me was the black mold above the ceiling tiles from the showers on the floor above leaking down, which is sad because the building itself is not in bad shape. It's just a matter of carelessness among whoever is in charge of seeing that those things get fixed. Though I never got sick so I can't say much else.
That's true, most of the gross stuff in the bathrooms come from things that could be easily fixed (like leaking pipes) but don't get any attention. The weird guy and the crew who cleaned usually did do a decent job, but it didn't take long for the people from Detroit to trash the place again. No offense to anyone from Detroit who actually lives like a civil human being, but nobody living in Commons from Detroit fits the "civil human being" description.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
