Wow.
Your sexual orientation is something you are born with.
This has been proven through science.
That's all I can say.

Nobody really has found why. The two stated above are the main theories. Last time I checked (January) doctors/scientists were positive they were close to finding the gene that determines it, but it has not been proven as fact, as far as I know.
Edit: I guess it has been proven. I would trust Dr. Humor above me over myself.
Double Edit: I got your screen names mixed up, sorry. :)
Let's Get Weird.
The belief that being homosexual is a choice is analogous to the belief that the sun revolves around the earth.
Many people believed it for a very long time, even in the face of mounting evidence.
Question; did you choose to be heterosexual?
It's that simple.

I say this effects me because I try to see the roles being reversed. I just recently became engaged to the most beautiful women I've ever met, I am madly in love with her, I cant stop thinking about her, she is my life. She is everything to me. If someone told me I was wrong for loving her and she was wrong for loving me back. If someone told me I can't marry her, and thats its wrong, would be devastated. I would be crushed. To tell me that the love I feel and know is real is false and is something wrong and dirty. That requires hate to be able to do that to someone. Plain and simple. I'm not taking it for granted that I can fall in love and get married to the person I want, it makes me realize that there are people out there that can't! I want them to be as happy as I am when I dream of making her my wife. You have to have hate in your heart to want to stop someone from being able to have that for themselves.

As it should, All the "personal attacks" and "name calling" if you want to call it that just takes away from whats really going on here. at the end of the day that is what it comes down to, not religion, but whats right. I start this topic to get the word out to people and get people talking about it. If we can get people talking and thinking than I'm happy.

Man you have some balls telling people how to raise their kids.
Pot, kettle. How is telling others they can't get married any different?
Actually, it is different. No one here is telling how to raise your kids. We are saying that you cannot use your inability to explain love to your kids as an excuse to oppress others.

This is a very interesting thread. I'm all for letting people enjoy life to the fullest, no matter sexual orientation, or any other reason for that matter. That being said, I was reading the news this morning and came across this article. Thought I'd share.

And the event was created by none other than Mike "I'll do anything for attention" Huckabee. Shocking.

Some of you keep stating (even in bold, italics, etc) that whether or not gays marry has no effect on anyone else's livesI disagree wholeheartedly.
Then you are wholeheartedly wrong.
I don't want my kids thinking that's ok. Those are our religious views. That does not make me a bigot. Just a Christian.
Not just a Christian. A bigotted Christian.

I think the "New Guy" would be shocked to realize there are many, MANY, Christians including myself who think that homosexuals should be allowed to marry. Like I said a long time ago in this thread and others have said more recently, it will have absolutely 0 effect on my life and my future marriage. Also, as a Jesus follower it's not my place to say that two people who are in love can't get married.
Im not going to argue against a gay gene because I belive genetics determines pretty much all of who we are and what we become, but others will argue that the environment in which we grow is just as strong if not stronger force in one's life. Its the old nature v. nurture debate. Ive also just recently seen studies saying that they can track a gay gene but Ive yet to see anything really definitive published by someone with great reputablity...does anyone have a link because I'd like to read it.
This is a well thought out and very informative video. It outlines exactly why this whole debate over 'traditional marriage' is just silly really:

I realize you weren't making a comment specific to "nature" as it relates to homosexuality, but I thought this would be a good jumping-off point to mention that homosexuality and bisexuality occurs with great frequency in nature.
A 1999 review by researcher Bruce Bagemihl shows that homosexual behavior has been observed in close to 1,500 species, ranging from primates to gut worms, and is well documented for 500 of them.
Now, I realize nature =/= good, because many things exist in nature that we do not condone in civilized society. However, I think it's important to point out that homosexuality cannot necessarily be attributed to "nurture".

Mike Huckabee is a huge hypocrite. At one time, he came to Michelle Obama's defense because she wanted to help prevent obesity in children, because at one time, he was extremely overweight. But now, he is encouraging people to eat fattening food because he would rather harm the homosexual than help keep everyone healthy.
I thought we were talking about Chick-Fil-A and Cedar Point, not gut worms and Mike Huckabee.

How much more is there to say about CFA and Cedar Point that hasn't been said at this point in 20+ pages?

Maybe the gut worm's parents were hairdressers or florists?
Don't be ridiculous. I've never been properly coiffured by a gut worm.

For a review on concordance rates of monozygotic vs. dyzogitc twin studies, read: Bailey, Dunne, & Martin, 2000; Kendler, Thornton,Gilman,&Kessler, 2000; Langstrom, Rahman,Carlstrom, & Lichtenstein, 2010
I can sum it up for you. Higher concordance rates of reported homosexual sexual orientation among monozygotic twins equals support for a genetic factor.
The studies have also found that homosexual parents raising children are significantly less likely than heterosexual parents to abuse their children physically and/or sexually, (despite claims of the opposite with no research to back it up by fundementalist Christian groups like "Focus on the Family"), and that they are no more likely to, identify as homosexual themselves (in other words, the idea that "gay parents create gay kids" it idiotic.
Sexual orientation is not black and white. If you study, you realize it is a spectrum. All you can do is pray that the people around you accept you for who you are.
And the society you are born into.
America is supposed to be different and better than other countries in how we disperse and support freedom and equal rights. We treat our homosexual brothers and sisters, the sexual orientation of which they had no control, like second-rate human beings. If your version of god tells you this is right, so be it. Sounds an awful lot like racism to me.
But the best thing you can do is ask. Talk to a friend you have that is gay or lesbian about when they knew and how they knew; it's just like anyone else describing their first crush, only they are told it is wrong, so most try to hide or deny it for years. Decades even.
Why do you think we see stories of men who are married with kids getting lambasted in the media for having a gay affair? The same society that crucifies them (pun intended) for have a "gay affair" is the same society that coerced them into hiding their homosexuality to begin with, which created the problem.
