Cell Phone Service

You probably won't use that many peak minutes if your schedule has you working during the day (you can't use your cell phone while at work ^_^ ). Just wait until your evening minutes kick in (for example, if you have unlimited nights and weekends, like I do). My advice would be to keep your current plan for the first month you're there, and then evaluate if that is working for you. That way, you won't get locked in to a higher-priced contract before it turns out you probably didn't need it in the first place.

Verizon is the way to go. I've had it for a year now (i changed from Sprint), and I have no complaints about them whatsoever. I didnt like Sprint because it never worked where i needed/wanted it to work. I never had a problem with Verizon at Cedar Point, so if you asked me which company, i'd say VERIZON WIRELESS!
We live in Detroit, and we have Sprint, Verizon, and Cingular, all work on point and off for us, except the Sprint always drops calls (all the time not just at cp). The Sandusky Mall is a very bad cell area.

I had a NEXTEL last summer and the only problems I had were in the Employee Cafeteria and the Commons Dorms. Other than that I liked it and didn't have any problems. It was just annoying that my phone wouldn't work in the cafeteria when I was on break. But it worked in the other outside break areas fine.

Anyone have any experience with AT&T wireless? I was considering buying a Go Phone (prepaid GSM) to use over the summer.

AT&T coverage sucks compared to Verizon. I have almost never, and I mean never, had a problem with coverage on my Verizon phone. I used to work at a place that sold Cingular service - Cingular uses both AT&T and Sprint's towers, and people still very commonly complain about not being able to get a signal. I have friends who have those services and they're just used to not being able to make a phone call on my university or even at their HOUSE. Of course, your mileage may vary, but if you're going to be traveling a bit or you just don't want to have coverage be a concern, go Verizon.

I've also never had any problems with my billing as some of the others have mentioned, just personal experience. Verizon is more expensive, but you get what you pay for and the service is quite dependable. I'd stay away from pre-paids if youthink you're going to be doing over 200 minutes a month. At that point, a plan is going to be much cheaper, come with a better phone, and have more features to it.

make sure you read your bill very closely each month. They've tried scamming me a few times.

Cellphone companies are evil. Very Evil.

Yeah, tell me about it, there was a $2,000 billing error on my last bill
