I would rather have the GTT and Turnpike Cars than a grassland. I highly doubt Cedar Point would spend all kinds of money tearing down the GTT and Turnpike Cars for a project that shouldn't cost any more than $20,000. Even if you did want a quiet area to relax at, the GTT provided shade and was pretty quiet. Also the building itself was a good looking structure. A grassland, in my opinion, is nothing more than wasted space with so much potential. I would like to see a new midway like the Gemini Midway. The Gemini Midway is by far the coolest area in the park IMO, and you can see how many more people hang out there than the previous year. I would say that the Gemini Midway is perfect for the family.

There doesn't have to be dozens of acres of grassland. I think a few acres would be plenty of room for a relaxing grassy area.

Very true Maverck00! And if it costs less than $20,000 to create-even better! That leaves money to be spent on future attractions & areas that have been cleared. That area has room , and plenty of potential, for many attractions. And when has GTT been quiet? If it wasn't occupied by a show(not quite), it was locked(closed gates). Not relaxing for a guest with a tiny child. Yes, it was a nice looking structure, but it's gone. Maybe a more improved version is on the way.
Keep passing the fun along!

Ok, I see what/ where you meant. I've never sat there, so not sure of it's relaxing qualities. Thanks for the input!

Not trying to quote you here, but If this is in fact a roller coaster, It's going to cost a couple million.
While I don't see it happening (although it is possible) at Cedar Point, a playground within a busy amusement park is not unheard of. Canada's Wonderland has a large playground in the middle of the kids park. It used to be called Kids' Kingdom, themed to Medieval times and featuring five original mascots. It opened in 1993, after the park was already established with eight coasters and a large kids area. It's now known as The Candy Factory, although it has shrunk as other attractions have been added around it. Still, it features all kinds of slides, bridges, and climbing things as well as a covered seating area and just empty space for kids to run!
Again, I don't see this happening at Cedar Point but families do enjoy it! It was a favourite of mine when I was a kid as well (back when they had dragon bones to climb and ball pits to play in). There's no return on investment and it takes up space, but it doesn't have to be that large and doesn't require electricity, employees, or much maintenance. I may have just changed my own mind about this... Cedar Point could totally use some of this land for that! I don't think that's why they cleared the land, but they could use any remaining area for a playground/relaxation spot because why not!
Judging from various trip reports on other sites, I feel like the playground-within-an-amusement-park thing is much more commonly a European thing, but that's not to say it's a bad thing. Many of the playgrounds I've seen pictures of were much fancier than your general elementary school playground, just as a benefit of applying an amusement park-sized budget to one.
If they could find a good place for one and a good theme, Snoopy or otherwise, it'd definitely be a hit.

Sorry I was unclear on that part. The $20,000 was meant for the playground and pavilion project.

I just got back from Disney World and I can tell you, the playground in the back of Hollywood Studios is always packed. Kids love that thing.

My daughter spent three straight hours in/on the playground at Universal Orlando. She loved that place.

Different times, different CEO ... might be an idea whose time has come again?
If I'm remembering correctly, Kid Arthur's Court leaving and the Peanuts arriving overlapped by just a couple of years, so a Peanuts Playground could be a nice little addition.

A little dated, but I believe the building was in need of excessive repairs.
I don't know, I just thought it was a neat looking building. I thought how the hill going up to it looked nice.

Regarding the "rest area" concept, I like the idea but CP already has Frontier Trail, the beach, and the areas near Sandcastle Suites/Lighthouse Point.
The playground concept would be very cool if it were to be done well. Some of my best childhood memories were at Disney's and Universal Studio's playgrounds. To me, there's a huge difference between an ordinary playground and something like this:

As cool as something like this would be, I don't think this type of "playground" would ever exist at a Cedar Fair Park. This would have been a good concept to incorporate into Dinosaurs Alive.
Dollywood has several playgrounds that are themed to various large attractions. It is a great concept. As a father, it's tough when you have children that aren't tall enough. Millennium Force plaza is always full of families waiting with small children. To me this is the area a playground would be great. It allows parents waiting with their children something to do while the older members ride. Sometimes it's not feasible to separate and travel across the park to a children's area. Offering a small play area in the old overflow line area near Millennium Force's final over bank turn would be wildly celebrated
By my family, and would cost practically nothing in terms of cap ex.
With Rougarou being a potentially highly attractive ride, it also will provide a place for those family members who are waiting. Again, Dollywood does this beautifully. There is always something for little ones to do next to the major attractions.
I have no children yet but when I was a child and unable to ride the "big rides," play ground were the best. I would love to see a large play ground at CP. I think it would be great for families and it would be something that would keep them coming back. I say they should put one in some where at Kiddy kingdom ;)
The largest area of the park that is sorely lacking in something to do for kids, and could use a nice playground is Frontiertown. Alot of parents have small children (some that are under 48" that can't ride with an older sibling). If one parent rides Maverick or Mean Streak with their older child, there is nothing to do back there for a smaller child.
A great spot that could use a playground in FT, and would bring some foot traffic to the area is the spot between Wave Swinger and Chick Fil-A. Yes, the spot occupied by the former Frontier Carousel and current home to Eternity Infirmary. There is a nice chunk of land there and the space is being wasted by only being used a few weeks out of the year. Would be nice to see it utilized more often.... my 2c.
